My review of the Super Fast Full Tang Khukuri from GGK (Great Gurkha Khukuri.com). In comparison to Nepalese kukris I got many years ago, this one is superior, because it has a true full tang, the handle is sized correctly, the grind/edge are first rate, and it is still light enough to carry long distances easily. In the text description box, you can find the GGK website and store, as well as all their social media (also prepping links that help support the channel). Enjoy :D
I didn't order this particular kukuri but I did order from them. The one I ordered is a 13 1/2" fighting kukuri. this is a phenomenal knife. Workmanship is impeccable.
Dam man, I’m an Aussie lookin for a bloody good tool and my mate said check out khukuri’s and I knew of them, always thought they looked beautiful. Never knew this was so resourceful, definitely gonna get one... great review mate I love it, very informative
I haven't been watching many videos lately as I have had too much going on. I have to say, that in my opinion you have the best knife and blade channel on RUclips. I really mean that, hands down the best, most interesting and fun. Great review!
I love that convex edge on that super-fast kukri and that's funny, as I was just looking over that Royal Nepalese kukri when you mentioned it. It is a little heavier and thicker so I would assume not as fast as the lighter kukri you have in the video. I wouldn't mine owning both though. Nice blades, Thanks again.
I just bought one of these. They filled my order in one day. Shipping was very fast. The knife is awesome. At least as sharp as yours. I WIIL buy more from this company. Namaste.
Very Good Video . Great Review , Very Helpful . Anyone Who Knows Khukuris Knows They Are The Top Of The Knife World . The Most Useful , Not Too Big Or Small , Just Amazing For Almost Every Task . I'd Take A Good Khukuri , Like This Knife Is , Over Many Firearms If Given A Choice Between The Two . Why ? This Thing Will Never Run Out Of Bullets .
As some 3 years timeline with perchance more usage beyond review demonstrations and/or placed into collection status... How have the handles held up to cracking and especially/specifically the decorative pommel end-cap metal? I have an EGKH in full-tang... however, in nearly the first outing (environment of Alaska winter snow/ice conditions) its pommel cap 'decorative plate' fell off easily and exposed the ragged rear of the tang and wood. Curious how this GGK pommel cap has held up?
This one has held up, but I have a lot of kukris from different makers over the years, I could see if I hard used some of them they could potentially break, none so far though, I've batoned with all of them. The good news is that almost all makers nowadays have come out with true full tang models as an option.
Beautiful blade, perfect size, but the edge rolls & chips too easily. The larger Tora brand khukuri blades don't roll or chip. If this knife didn't have an issue w/edge rolling or chipping it would be my favorite. It should also include a larger chakmak & karda in the scabbard with larger handles for larger hands.
Hi! No, they had to shut down temporarily from Covid, so they asked me not to do it right away. I think they are back in operation, but I haven't heard from them after that.
No. I lost contact with their representative during the lockdowns. They shut down for a while. I am hoping he did not pass away. But anyway, they never told me when they were good to ship again. Actually, it has been so long, I'll probably review it on my own.
@@WeAllJuggleKnives I just got it in! What a beauty! Top notch work and attention to detail. Perfect size and fit. I didn't want a large, mega heavy khukuri which makes this a perfect choice. I'm getting tired of lugging around the sharpened crowbar bricks made today. Obviously, more geared toward fighting than woods chores... I do wonder how it will handle some MODERATE batoning because that's the first thing we all secretly want to do haha. I'm almost afraid to actually use it it's so pretty lol. Thanks for the review! Glad I got this one!
Yeah most kukris have a tapered tang, but they went true full tang on this sucker because a lot of people requested it, so the handle is distinct and more costly to forge.
I am really looking at KHHI (Khukuri House) currently, but this has my attention. Wanting a simple functional tool, though the Panawal (full tang) is very tempting. Also I have never seen a chakmak (the flint striker/sharpening steel) made in a flint striker design.Usually they are both garbage, and the utility knife (karda) doesn't have much if any edge, but they are usually the same small knife appearance, where one simple is not sharpened. How is it holding up? Really torn between these and KHHI now. Appreciate any further input.
That is a sweet blade 😍 The sheath looks great And the accessories look quality. I think i need it. How dose it compare to the ColdSteel kukuri ? Also have you seen the 2020 buck talon? Will you please review it? Love you reviews Brother👍
It is thicker at the spine, and has a bevel instead of being full flat, but it is just as sharp or more. I believe Cold Steel has discontinued it's old Gurkha Kukri, they've disappeared from Amazon, now they only sell a machete version.
Have you ever tried the tora or the tfw kukri? Would like to buy one of these and was curious which one you would get? Thanks for all these years of entertaining videos. All the best from Romania
Do these really come out finished this nicely? I’ve seen some other ones, that have a high reputation that look pretty crudely finished. They are some popular brands as well , of Napolese made Kukuries Also, are these still high quality, now that Purna has died?
The swept forward design is far safer and superior. It protects your hands as well. The blade will always hit before your hand get close to making contact.
Are those links still active and good because I'm liking that Kukri and it's what a martial blade of that type should be like , and not a over heavy blade axe although some may have a purpose for a heavy blade , I prefer a good solid we'll make light blade such as that one.
Hi Juggler! Great video! This thing looks amazing! Just a quick question... the price not withstanding, which would you recommend between the GGK Superfast, the Kabar Kukri machete, or the Ontario Kukri?
German soldiers were terrified of the Gurkas in World War 1. During one period of trench warfare, some Gurkas serving with the British crawled over to the German trenches in the middle of the night, and silently cut the throats of EVERY OTHER sleeping German soldier. Waking up the next morning to find the men on either side of them dead in such a fashion was a massive psychological warfare move... or so the legend goes. As for uses of the khurkuri, remember that these are farm and kitchen tools in Nepal. They are used for everything there, as well as military weapons.
Hey WAJK, seriously researching kukris for purchase this week. Have watched all your Kuk videos, (looking forward to Royal Nepalese review), Advanced Knife Bro"s, many others and countless online best/versus/comparo's. The Super Fast Full Tang Khukuri is really a beauty, but out of my price range, (currently $189 with shipping, 5% coupon expired and the wait...). Pretty much settled on the Ka-Bar Kukri Machete (sub $60 delivered), but then the Ka-Bar BK21 caught my attention, (you haven't review it?), although $150 is also more than I am comfortable spending. Have innumerable EDCs, a Trailmaster clone, a Fallkniven S1 clone, and an antique Estwing 14" Sportsman's Axe. Would like to have one tool to rule them all, will be used for clearing instead of a machete, (don't have one of those either). Is the Ka-Bar Kukri Machete the best bang for the buck first and only Kukri for the foreseeable future? (Irish/Dominican American)
You are in luck, my friend, I reviewed the Kabar BK21 back in the day, it did very well, here you go: ruclips.net/video/2QPiKzoSkic/видео.html. The Ka-bar Kukri Machete is definitely softer steel than the BK21, it is possible to damage the edge on hard weathered woods. I am not sure what the best budget kukri is. Maybe the CRKT Kuk? Or one of the Nepal ones with rougher finish but full tang?
