- On their first run in a long time as a team together, Tickle, Lenny, and Kenny build a blacktop submarine still to distill their peach mash. In order to keep it running as silently and efficiently as possible, the team decides to use the stream to cool down the vapour to extract the alcohol, but disaster strikes as the branch worm isn’t cooling the vapour enough.

I'm not say in cause I think you don't know but Make Sure to cook milkweed in some way before eating or drinking it, I got violently sick from raw milkweed earlier this year, very tasty but cook it first

It’s copper on the top of it then the bottom is covered in the stainless steel, the stainless steel is on the bottom because it is stronger and can hold the weight of all the liquid inside , if you put the copper on the bottom it’d rip apart under the stress
the bottom half of the entire still is made out of stainless, and the top half is copper. they aren't layered, it's two pieces.

i dont see how when the heat comes on the expansion dosnt cause that tank to leak from the seams like a sieve
You're supposed to soak the wood and water so the wood expands and forms a tight seal
Path of least resistance once it builds pressure it push through the system it dont have enough time to build enough time to build enough pressure to leak
How does that pot not leak they just nailed metal to wood what stops the liquid from leaking out when they fill it ?
Same way rivets hold a boiler together, done properly (not claiming this is the case here) it clamps the metal tight to the wood.
@@Cragified thanks for your reply , I guess when the wood gets wet it may swell a little also but it still looks like it would leak to me but I don't know much about pot stills lol
@@citylotgardening6171 I'm no expert either, besides it not like this show they are actually distilling. It's really just entertainment for the audience that wants to believe it. At most they are distilling water, but definitely not spirits.

They could have made fins for the pipe in the water that would have given them greater surface area for cooling and made it a bit more compact.
It would have to be manufactured with fins on it which would be super expensive. Cheaper and easier to just extend the pipes to create more surface area and thus time to cool the liquor.
@@charlesbrown4483True. Though with the same total piping I would have spent some time adding some loops in the pipe where it sits in the water thus not increasing the size impact while increasing surface area and time in the cooling water, but that is just me.
@@Chivalry1978 With the same amount of piping the surface area will be the same no matter what and the difference in time would only be a couple seconds. But making loops out of it means it could be in deeper water and it probably would cool better that way than just being at the surface like they had it.
@@charlesbrown4483 pretty much. Only reason I suggested fins was my pc building experience. CPU' naturally while running will want to get over 90c with no cooling solution. A simple aluminum heat sink and fan can drop down to about 70's. A more elaborate heat transfer fin system and fan can drop that down to 60's. A water pump constantly cycling water that is cooled down in a radiator can get that below down to the 40's. So having the majority of the surface area and heat transference in a already flowing cooled medium like a creek would work amazing but keeping it simple more tubing and loops seems more practical and would not require welding and would lessen the maintenace you would need to do on the cooling solution.

Branch worms work under heavy stream flow, like at the base of a run. In water just sitting there it wont work. No I have not made a Still ever. I know the thermodynamics of non-ferrous metals really well
will it still work straight like that if you use saltwater and ice and is about 6ft and about as thick as a dime?

C Dub no it doesn’t. If u put it in a water bottle and close the water bottle it explodes because of the build up of co2 but outside it wouldn’t explode.

It's a scripted TV show. Nothing illegal is happening. Either licensed or taxes paid.
Your legally allowed to brew your own liquor in some states however your not allowed to distribute it so if they don't film the sale it's not technically illegal
The police can’t use it as evidence since the production and sale already happened before any of the episodes aired and it’s not a formal investigation, one of the stars Mark explained it in an interview. Not saying a lot of it isn’t scripted, after a season or so what show doesn’t get that way 🤷♂️
Since season 1 tickle has been nothing but a drunk Tim couldn't depend upon, it amazes me that anyone would work with him. Seasons 1 and 2 he was always drinking and drunk. You can't do that and make moonshine the right way.
Good thing this is just a scripted TV show where they dramatize making moonshine otherwise you might be right.

They've been doing this for a long time and they still don't know exactly what they need to do their job. This cracks me up how they try to make the show so dramatic
Simply put this is the motions of running a shine still but you can't actually tell from the video if it is actually spirits being distilled. They could just be boiling water and condensing it back and deceiving the audience (something the producers of this have done often). Basically they are going through the motions but there is no proof they actually are distilling spirits for either the audience or the law's concern. It's perfectly legal for me to run a still to distill water for example.
