The 10 kHz switch is used to access the “a” 11 meter channels. They used to be the remote control frequencies(for rc cars and the like). There are several on the 11 meter band above channels 3, 7, 11, 15, and 19.
Have just received my Cobra 29 LTD Classic AM/FM here in Australia (from Black Friday sales) Also grabbed a Cobra 100 external speaker. Will be getting a Station Master (Aussies built) antenna in the new year, and will be mounting everything in my shed (re: workshop/ mancave).
Mine just came today, it took me some time to buy it but i stuck with it. i have a old school TRC 457 as a Base up in Eastern Mass. I like your videos Thanks Sean
Today was the day got my antenna up atop that old windmill tower it’s like 60’ up there I used a giant scissor lift ran RG213u . I got lucky and didn’t have to tune the rings I get 1.2 swr on 1 and 1.3 swr on 40 so I Started sending out and I’ve met 4 or 5 locals shooting the breeze. They recommend me getting a power mic ?.. other than that they could hear me, glad to be back on line thanks for the encouragement , cb is not dead. Love my basic cobra 18 ultra but I gotta get a good radio yet, something with more options AM-FM and such but not sure was looking towards a galaxy but who knows. I’m just stoked to be back on the radio. Gotta learn the lingo lol 73s
One of my local contacts is an elderly gentleman that offered me a galaxy 33 and a power mic both for 65$ invited me in to take a look and watch him play on it. He is sooo cool and has quite the setup himself. Not even 24 hrs on the radio and meeting good people like Big John .
Man that Galaxy is a huge step up over my cobra 18 ultra it’s like a big boy radio in comparison. The guys can really pick me up now loud and crystal clear with the help of the power mic. This gentleman has fixed my old cobra 21 sold me the galaxy 33 with a mic and is even hooking me up with a basestation of some kind . What a blessing it has been to send my signal out and meet such great people. I look forward to all my peeps getting a basestation set up they have been following my hobby and soon we’ll all be up and up and on air.
Seems like a nice radio, perhaps even more interesting is the red Realistic transistor that I think I see on the shelf. If that’s what it is, I had an AM/FM just like it as a kid. Loved it!
The only thing I see it is missing is a port to plug in an external frequency counter to help you to set the frequency for SSB easier. Other than that, it looks and sounds like a great radio. I like that classic look with most of the features an export radio.
That radio does have a frequency counter. Just push both the up and down buttons on the microphone and the counter is on the display as a scrolling display with two digits at a time.
,,,just ordered one of these, along with a bj300 heater,,,,hope it adjusts down to 1 watt or so, as not to overdrive, the cheap Chinese choppah,,,and IT does indeed, have a freq counter, if you depress both up, and down buttons, on mike,,,and I know you just got it, but it has TONS, more features that you didn't mention ,,but im sure you know about, by now,,,a seriously cool radio,,,for the price,,,,recieves 2m,,,police and fire, as well,,,after you program it,,,,thanks for postin,,,de NV1H,,😎
,,,,,havent got mine yet,,,do you happen to know what the lowest output, that it can be set at,,,was hopin for around 1.5 watts, as a driver,,,im guessin, it aint gonna go that low, without tweakin,,,and if its downard ajustable, in the software application,,,supercool radio,,,cant wait,,,thanks,,,,@@FarpointFarms
It does look like a Cobra 29. I haven't heard the term Mud Duck in over 30 years and I never really had good setup. I'm surprise that I didn't get my seriously hurt or killed. Anyway, I use to enjoy talking with the locals and some truckers on channel 27.
I've had this radio for several months and love it. The only downside is what I call the "lazy meter." The meter pretty much hangs out on about 5 on sideband whether I'm receiving a signal or not. I hoped Radioddity might have a firmware/software fix, but haven't seen anything yet.
I’m an old newbie or a new oldie one of the other lol I was in to radios years ago and got out of them but am wanting to get back into cb. With that being said I have looked at the QT40 as well as the QT60 but can’t decide between the 2. I’m leaning towards the 40 just because it seems to be a simpler radio to operate to me. In your opinion which would you recommend for the first time user. When I was in to radio years ago I never had anything fancy just your typical cobra 29 which I still have a couple of but am wanting something with sideband in it. Thanks for any input and keep the good videos coming
That’s a very nice looking unit! And it seems to perform really well too. That’s really cool that you could talk to Colorado from North Carolina! How long of a coax cable do you have running from the radio to the antenna?
Does that CB have analog internal parts or digital internal parts? The reason I am asking is because ALL internal digital parts radios can be destroyed by an EMP⚡
Could you recommend or know of a desktop style microphone, that would work with the Radioddity QT40 radio? Only 5 days away. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas 🎁 🎄.
For a Newbie just getting into radio. Interested in DX as well as local. This QT40 vs the Cobra 29 LTD Classic Dual Mode radio. Which one you choosing? I’m a new subscriber to your channel. Also I will have to use some type of antenna inside my garage. Due to HOA. Trying to watch as many videos as I can, to keep questions to a minimum. Truly appreciate your time and help. God bless Jeff Stone/Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
I saw a video a guy made where he decorated his antenna with plastic vines with leaves and stuck it in a planter pot. Looks just like some vegetation, just never needs to be watered or pruned lol
That radio only has one clarifier which is fine clarifier, it does not have a course clarifier but the clarifier can be programmed to swing up to +/- 5 KHz. The other knob is the RF Gain control not the course clarifier!
I have a Anytone 5555n its not modded for CB use it in the car on 10 meters works well almost 40 watts. that's 3 times what my IC703 does it works well as well. those radios look like a 148GTL
I like the look a lot better than the QT60, but the QT60 has 60 watts, the QT40 only has 40 watts. I also wish they wouldn't include teenage toys like echo, talkback, and roger beeps. Having a high power radio like this would not be of any use to me. I use 100 watts on 11 meter sideband, which means you need a radio that puts out 1-2 watts max, and a 100 watt amp. I use a Uniden Washington, reduced to 1.5 watts output, and a homemade (and VERY clean 100 watt tube amp) I have a general class amateur license, but I have mostly given that up and gone back to 11 meters.
You've got to realize that for the better part of 30 years guys were spending big bucks to add those features to radios that didn't have them. Now, everything comes that way stock!
@@FarpointFarms If you are talking about the echo, talkback, and roger beeps, I just don't understand their purpose. My Icom 718 doesn't have any of those, and I've never used them on 11 meters.
I recently got a QT-40 so I could have a radio dedicated to 11 meters. My interest is in the sideband frequencies, so I made some programming changes. In the Low Band position, I left bank D as it was, but I changed bank E and set channel 1 to 27.360mHz. From there I increased it 5kHz for each channel, so channel 2 to 27.365, channel 3 to 27.370, and so on. By the time I get to channel 40 on this bank, it is at 27.555. I will probably program bank F to carry on from there. Then, On the H Band positions, I programmed the A and B switches similarly for the 10 meter phone band, starting at 28.300mHz, and moving up from there in 5kHz steps. And, with the fine tune button programmed for 5kHz each way for both transmit and receive, you can tune in anyone in between channels. I will probably program some 10 meter FM repeater frequencies and 12 meter frequencies.
I really like it. My question is the knob with am, FM, USB, lsb, what's the difference between that knob and the band knob with a,b,c,d,e..? I'm seriously considering buying this and that's coming from a Cobra guy.

I think Mud Duck will live forever-
Just got one of these on a special. Cost less than my Bearcat 980 ssb did four years ago.
Cool, that might be the only time that something costs less than a few years ago.
It is just like the superstar I had same setup same look.

The AnyTone ARES II is the same radio at the same price.

Go for the QT60. It's a great radio that you'll get used to using in no time.
That’s a very nice looking unit! And it seems to perform really well too. That’s really cool that you could talk to Colorado from North Carolina! How long of a coax cable do you have running from the radio to the antenna?
The cable is 50 feet of RG213. The antenna is a Antron A99.
If have a Uniden pro 510XL or a Midland 77092. Which would you prefer to put in a pickup truck?
For me, I would put either in my truck.
Radioddity QT40 good radio i have one and i run the quad 6 both great
I really like this one. Looks cool too!
I would like to see the MW/VHF/CB radios again, so you don't need all the radios to listen.
An all in one unit would be nice!
Does the S Meter work
Yes. The day I filmed this the noise floor was very low and these contacts were very weak.
Nice radio. :))
Indeed it is!
This is the radio i wud like to have ... your neighbor in tn next to nc line

Does that CB have analog internal parts or digital internal parts? The reason I am asking is because ALL internal digital parts radios can be destroyed by an EMP⚡
I am not sure- In case of an EMP, most things will not work- like power sources
@@FarpointFarms I apologize. I meant to say that ALL internal digital parts radios can be destroyed by an EMP.
Hello
Will the radio work with a ciggerette lighter?
I would not recommend it-

I think they sell converters on eBay to hook it to a standard 4 pin mic.
It is a 4 pin so most 4 pin mics work. Just trying a K-PO and getting good reports

I have a review video of the Antron A-99
I really like it. My question is the knob with am, FM, USB, lsb, what's the difference between that knob and the band knob with a,b,c,d,e..?
I'm seriously considering buying this and that's coming from a Cobra guy.
Band versus mode
The AM/FM/USB/LSB is a mode select knob. the Band knob is just that. Each letter is a different set of 40 channels. The CB band is "D".
@@FarpointFarms looks like with this radio it's more versatile than even the stryker 955.
