  • This was the fifth and final race of the California MTB Series in June last year. Great racing on course; the times were tight with three of us finishing within a minute. That concluded the XC Marathon part of my season. After that, I stepped up to multi-day ultra-endurance.

Love watching your races. They way you edit the video is great with the rear camera. I’m new to mtb and was wondering, do you pay to get into the races or is it just for fun and if paying how many places does it pay out?

Hi! Thanks for watching. We do pay to enter the races. The money goes to race organizers. And in the pro categories, there's typically a 50% payout for the podium finishers. Each series is different though.

Nice video, nice race and well done! Thanks for sharing I love your videos. One thing, I may be wrong but I still find it hard to believe that the HR reading is correct. Barely ever reaching 155bpm even on the steep climbs? Come on that's not normal !!

I know it's hard to believe. But there are a few factors that make it so. 1) My threshold is just 174bpm, so not that high 2) It was at high elevation so that chops around 10bpm 3) I was thoroughly trained for ultra endurance, but that meant my high intensity wasn't trained at all so I was running lower HR and 4) I was racing very tired that year because the race was on Sunday and I was doing very long training rides all week to prepare for a multi-day event (the Swiss Epic).
