Vivien confuses me so much because her singing role is so small throughout the whole show then at the end she has to whip out that incredible high note...
In her Obsessed! video with Seth Rudetsky, Kate talks about how that note was actually her idea. As she says, the Remix was her only real solo in the show, then it becomes an ensemble number, and Vivienne once again gets pushed into the background, so she wanted something to pull focus. And well, she's Kate f'in' Shindle, and she deserves it.
@@ameliamorgan2287 I believe the normal high note in the song is an A#5? But on the closing night of the show Kate Shindle took it up to a C6. I'm pretty sure a lot of the crazy stuff she does is a mix belt rather than just a belt which allows her to go so high.
@@georgejones6262 I still think it's incredible that she can go that high in a mix (also I'm pretty sure she's a mezzo?)! I'm a soprano and that'd be pure head voice territory for me.
@@ameliamorgan2287 Kate Shindle is genuinely on of the most underrated vocalists on Broadway in recent years. The fact that she goes from playing characters like Vivienne and The Mad Hatter with insanely high belt moments to the low alto sound of Alison in fun home is truly phenomenal to me. As for mixing, I'm all for it and think everyone should include some head voice into their belt - it's more sustainable and allows for higher and easier belting so it looks much more effortless on stage. Jessica Vosk is renowned as one of the best Elphabas and she spends most of the show in her mix but has worked on it so much that she can switch between pure belting, mix belting and pure mix without there being a noticeable difference.
The vibrato Kate puts on it demonstrates such authority and control over her voice. It doesn’t sound like she just threw her voice up there hoping for the best. She’s in control.
It was planned. She said that the high note wasn't on the score. Apparently she didn't have any solos and the beginning was the only part she sang by herself. But the whole cast joins in after and she wanted to stand out and during rehearsals she hit that high note. The creators liked it and the rest is history 😀
Kate Shindle's note is what actually sparked the memory of me watching the Legally Blonde Musicl when it aired on MTV. Years later, I searched for the musical on RUclips with this this climax in mind! Crazy! Kate has the best voice hands down!
Kate duh! This show is a perfect example that the OBC was never improved upon. Where shows like Wicked, BoM, phantom have all had new talent bring something special to the role.
Sarah Stewart Yes but the note she hit for a few seconds is higher than what the regular note would’ve been in the original key. She could’ve hit the normal note in the normal key
To go up to the higher, more impressive note. Riffing up is always impressive, especially when it’s that high. It’s good showmanship. The audience doesn’t know the key is lowered (unless they intimately know the score) and it allows the actress to go higher than the original all while telling the audience she is in fact going higher.
This was actually during the curtain call. After they bow, they all sing a reprise of the remix and for some reason it's written in a lower key than the one earlier in the show. She probably did a version in the original key, but they weren't able to find a video of or odds are.

Kate killed it!! 😍 The first time I saw the version of Legally Blonde with Kate and Laura I died when Kate hit that note!!! I’ve watched this version of the musical over 20 times now and I still can’t get over it!!!
Emma Hearn will forever and always have my heart as a girl who has Texas State as one of her top colleges. (She did her performance at Texas State University btw)
Who sang the "Creep" ( by Radiohead) Bridge the best and Who sang the "Don't Cry Fro Me Argentina" Climax the best. Also I'm literally became a "Broadway Baby" thanks to this channel. I'm obsessed with it
That school always has such great videos and productions + students. I love seeing them all in different roles throughout their years in college. Its really cool. Everyone should check them out
i am so obsessed with kate shindle!! she is amazing!! that note she hits at the end of the remix just blows me away everytime and i play over and over again cause she is amazing!
In that same song, the character belts the word 'bond'. I have no idea what note it is but Kate did it wonderfully, I'd love to see a comparison of that note too! Great video btw
I just got Vivienne in Legally Blonde Jr. at my highschool, which is awesome because I'm only a freshman. I hope I get to keep this note, because I think it's only optional in the Jr. version. I think I can hit it, but I've never tried.
Yeah, my school definitely can't compete with these notes. But I have to say that the girl/my friend who played Elle was pretty close! The songs in this musical are so freaking high...I'm glad that Chutney had no song.
Can you possibly do,"Who did Turn it Off the best?" If you don't know which part I'm talking about, it's the part where McKinley sings,"Turn it oOFf." Then the ensembles go,"like a light switch on a cord." You don't have to, but I would appreciate if you did! You are amazing! :)
I played in my high schools Musical performance as a violin in the pit and on the last day, when The actor playing Vivien Sang that amazing high note I started crying as I was playing LMAO
Listen im sure they’re all wonderful but there is something about Kate that when she hits that note i grin like an idiot and my whole brain goes “time to lose our shit!!” It’s so good i watch her on repeat and i have the same guttural reaction every time.
Vivien confuses me so much because her singing role is so small throughout the whole show then at the end she has to whip out that incredible high note...
I think that was intentional. In this song her opinion of Elle completely changes which is where the big passionate note comes in
She actually added in the note during rehearsals and the directors loved it which is why it stayed in.
Alex R *vivienne
@@anna-michellecourshon505 she doesnt HAVE to do the note, but its helpful

I saw that same video. She’s incredible.
No one beats Kate Shindle.
HiMyNameisPeter I couldn’t agree more
Idk, it sounds way better on the cast album, but the way Kate went into the riff at the beginning was a little iffy.
right! also her in wonderland!!
1000th like
Seriously. It's effortless.
idk if anybody else does this but every time i hear kate shindle hit that c6 my eyes well up with tears of joy

C6?!?? There's no way it's that high... *how* can you belt up there

Kate just had THAT POWER WHEN SHE ENTERED. Voice is fab, but it’s more of the stage presence that does it for me.
