This here is really what separates the channel from others... He gives you a solid scaffold to ground you and then actually suggests the best ways to build on top of that without getting lost so you're not all at sea. Kudos sir. You could literally write an album of songs just with this one video! Other channels would maybe provide a scaffold and then just leave you to it with no direction.
I think the great thing about this channel and the people involved is the humble approach taken. I've taken time to listen to Jason and Ken's music, and it is pretty bloody good. That these guys and the team are encouraging people to craft their own sound is very uplifting!
Seriously underrated channel. Thank you Sir! Awesome video, so interesting to hear the potential of one riff?! Love the black metal-style tremolo picking version 👏
I just recently found your guy's channel and I have to say, please continue making these helpful videos!! I've been struggling all my life trying to make something amazing out of the riffs I make in my bedroom and your guy's videos are easily the best resource I have! Thank you guys so much!
Jason is absolutely awesome at explaining things in a way that a 5 year old can understand. He has truly mastered the skill of teaching people. I completely commend him and his dedication.
Dude, I stumbled onto your channel four days ago. Even as a dedicated bass player I've learned more than in the last few years. I know it's a different video, but you have , hands down, the best Circle of Fifths explanation EVER. Thank you from possibly your newest subscriber.
Sick video Jason, I've loved your videos and they've helped me immensely in coming up with my own riffs and combining them into songs. This one is the cherry on top! Thanks for this! Have a good one.
All good points and definitely helps on the creativity, especially when you’re in the groove and playing well. Those techniques open up the door for other new riffs. Nice video.
thank you so much for your channel, all your tips and tricks, it helps so much! Oftentimes , we kind of know the true inside but we are not sure and we want to have confirmation. Anyways, cheers!
I still don't know how to play. I learned solely on making writing my own. Never learned covers except maybe small pieces to learn a technique, but that's about it. Don't know the name of notes or chords besides your very basic. I play until it sounds good 🤷
I don’t base any riff or licks on scales; it’s not something I think about at all. It’s just going off what I’m hearing in my head and translating that to the fretboard
I feel like this dude gives good hugs.

Great video... also changing time signature or bar length is a good way.
🤘
The day I actually knew how to play is when I lost the ability to write a good song.
Me too
I feel this. 💯

That happens look at motley Crüe they never learned anybody’s songs and they write all originals
That is awesome
🙏🤘
Super helpfull, thank you !

Cool stuff. More about black metal pls! 🤘

It's just so cool that Drax can teach me how to do music
🤘
I know it isn't the point of the video but you have a great on camera presence and easy to listen to voice
Thank you, we appreciate that!
What scale are you using?
I don’t base any riff or licks on scales; it’s not something I think about at all. It’s just going off what I’m hearing in my head and translating that to the fretboard
I already kind of was doing this
🤘
I just wrote a song few days ago and ive been trying to make a riff but none worked hope this helps me
🤘
You know when the dude sounds like Phil Anselmo he’s about to give you a guitar masterclass
🔥
🤘

Any riff can be played in any tuning...there are no rules in music!
@@metalmastermind oh ok i see thanks Metalmastermind
