Hi Chloee. That's a great question. No, I don't think you need a background in accounting to start. I would say that you need a certain type of personality - focused, methodical, can follow instructions, and wants to learn.

Thank you for this advice. Although a certification is not required I’ve noticed some employers require them. What certification would you recommend a US based bookkeeper obtain?
You can get certified in QuickBooks Online - it's free. Sign up for a free QuickBooks Online Accountant account and you get all the training and certification for free.
@@amarievargas80 I'm not sure what training you looked at. Intuit does not charge for training. Their QuickBooks Online Accountant program, training, and certification are completely free. I've taken their free training and webinars.

Hello, Miss Veronica. My name is Rickey Hughes. I, myself, have a Bookkeeping/Accounting Service at home. It is a small business, as well as a home based business.
My question is, do you know anything about obtaining an LLC? If so, I would like to know which is more affordable, such as obtaining an LLC, or just doing business as a sole proprietor. Please let me know more about it, only if you know. If possible, I would like to hear from you about this.

That is more of a legal question - whether you should obtain an LLC or operate as a sole proprietor. Look for resources through your state's department of revenue or Secretary of State's website. Is it recommended or required to carry insurance in case books were not properly recorded
Yes, I recommend that you carry insurance. I also recommend that you have a solid workflow in place to ensure that you are doing everything that you're supposed to be doing for your client every month. I have a system for ensuring that my employees follow all the steps and a system for ensuring that we review all our work so that it meets our high quality standards.
Whats the purpose of a book keeper? Do they assist a company in better filing taxes?
Crystal, the purpose of a bookkeeper is to record the financial transactions of a business. Modern bookkeepers and accountants also streamline manual processes using integrated cloud technologies to automate processes like accounts payable and payroll. The value of having timely and meaningful financials is far beyond making tax time easier. A business owner can use their financials to review and monitor their company's profitability. By understanding how their business is doing, a business owner can make critical decisions to improve their profitability. For example, if a business has a cash-flow problem, most business owners want to cut expenses or add revenues. However, a better way to improve profitability might be increasing prices, removing unprofitable products or services, and streamlining their operations..

Some people have a hard time finding a job as a remote bookkeeper because they lack work experience. I would encourage you to focus on the value that you bring to a potential employer - enthusiasm, ability to learn, self-starter, etc.
Do you prefer Quickbooks online or the desktop version?
From a business perspective, I prefer QBO because it's much easier to work with clients no matter where they are located. I do wish QBO had as much functionality as some versions of QBD.
