- A boat of interest connected to the death of a 15-year-old girl who was struck and killed while waterskiing in Biscayne Bay over the weekend has been found, authorities said Tuesday.
A boat matching the description of the one that struck and killed Ella Riley Adler Saturday afternoon was in custody and its owner was cooperating with the investigation, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said Tuesday.

I ran over a tow line one time while boating in a narrow channel. The 2 people on the other boat just stood there and watched me as I was passing them. They made no attempt to let me know that they had a rope in the water and it was a dark color that did not stand out. I tied it back together for them, they were upset, I apologized and told them they should have done something to alert me, even waving there arms would have avoided this.
It was choppy on Saturday. It's very possible the the driver of the boat didn't realize he hit someone. But FWC has the boat and the owner is cooperating. Sad either way.
if it’s choppy I’m pretty sure you’d never know about hitting anything. Don’t swim where there are boaters.
you are clearly not a boater.
You are correct sir. They probably heard about the story in the news and thought, "Hopefully they can find that boat and figure out what happened." Also....isn't there something about waving an orange flag when you have someone in the water.
This lawyer is not a boater!!! choppy seas and the size of the boat are all a factor in this case!!! The boat with this young lady in the water should have had their heads on a swivel and flags out giving other boater around them notice that someone was in the water near their sky boat RIP young lady!!!
I wonder how many hours that lawyer has aboard large Center Console boats in highly traversed, chop and wake filled waters.
My heart goes out to the family during this very sad time. Fortunately, they've found the other boat; so hopefully we can learn more, to prevent similar accidents.
I missed the details, so have many safety related questions: Was the tow boat flying a ski flag? Did she have a colorful PFD/vest? Did they have a spotter(s) and signal devices? Did the spotter attempt to signal the other boat with flags, horn, arms/towels waving, etc.? Were they in an appropriate low-traffic area suitable for skiing?
The believed boat has a high bow, which would be even higher bif they were under power. A boats stern (back end) sinks into the water when under power until it is trimmed out,(brought up to an even keel),and may result in not sighting the young lady.
The boat looks to be at least 40 feet and it is a sport fisherman. Wheel house sits way back (it doesn't look too high, not a tower) and they might even have one in the cabin. Really nice boat.
4 engines, big boat. They look for the orange flag waving to know if someone is in the water. I'm not gonna be the one to ask about it, though.
as someone who drives boats, and has driven a 42 footer before, I can tell you first hand it would be near impossible to tell if you hit an object compared to if the water was choppy and you merely hit the small waves. Especially if you have 4 x 400Hp Outboard engines. The sound of the engines alone would make it impossible to even hear the thud noise.
I thought you were not supposed to ski or swim near the shore, that’s for boat traffic.
That's where everyone swims. If you can't see well from your boat because you are old, by yourself, the waters choppy, I would think you would avoid areas with swimmers and skiers
Wasn’t someone in her boat supposed to be holding up a bright orange flag?????
Bingo. The captain of the ski boat has to make sure that's happening.
They have the boat and owner is cooperating!
No they don't...just guessing is all they have.
It's sad but i believe the att. is not familar with many boats. If only the young ladies head was above water certain boats would make her nearly invisible. Another boat is being discussed as the offending vessel and this would be the possible case.
I wouldn't want to be the one to ask about an orange flag.
The boat moving so fast . All you hear is wind noise and hull slap bouncing.
What we know for sure is that it was a Wakeboard, not a waterski... but despite that, doing either of those watersports in the open ocean with high traffic of High powered Motor Boats in the area is Stoopid with two OOs.
This is so sad, and preventable
They still don't know if the boat being televised is the boat or operator involved. This investigation is entirely screwed.
Plus they were in a no wake zone. You can’t go so fast you wouldn’t notice the thump of running over a person!
I believe they said it wasn't a no wake zone. If it was, they wouldn't be able to water ski there.
Doesn't matter how slow you're going in a 4 engine boat of that size, you not going to feel anything.
What a stupid post. If it happened in a no wake zone then how were they towing a ski boarder?
I bet the “attorney” doesn’t do any defense work.
I wonder if he hired the attorney before he was aware that his vessel had any involvement(when the police showed up at his door)
It's 50 / 50 fault she put herself in a very dangerous situation and the other 50% goes to the boat driver.....God help her family & friends
I just want to focus on people putting themselves in dangerous situations and once an accident happens they blame others
Agreed!
It's the fault of the person that was in command of the water ski boat, if there was no orange flag being waved. But I doubt there will be any charges.
The joop dude at the end lol
If it was a non jew kid, would it have been so important?
Everyone making excuses, that person was most definitely under the influence driving and fled the scene.
That doesn't even make sense.
not everyone drinks, you would be surprised
Lets see...15 people on a boat pulling folks in the water...my bet the alcohol was involved with that group instead of a single operator.
We Have MAGA IMMUNITY.
