    I took a totally different lesson from this video than titled! I learned how important it is to get fit, slow swing = too low spin, regular swing = great spin, and fast swing = high spin. That just validates different tempo and speeds create different spin and launch 🚀

    Great video. I personally have the mantra that you get fit for your "fast" swing, aka nuke swing such that it is as controllable and has as ideal of launch numbers as possible. I then can hit a nuke on a par 5 with more confidence while also having confidence I can "bunt" something low and running because my driver will be super low spin at bunt speed. Perfect spin at high speed for max carry and run, super low spin and low launching for long runners that can go 80 to 85 percent the total of my nuke and be less offline.

    Controlled swing wins on fairways hit, but getting an avg 40yds roll out is the only thing that makes this test close. Carrying 294 vs 250 means a 4 club difference in what club is used to approach the green. Even with total distance there's a 2-3 club difference in approach. On seven shots each, presumably only lost one more shot based on where they finished swinging fast vs controlled. Seven approaches with 5 iron vs 8 iron or 8 iron vs gap wedge probably gets most golfers more than one shot back.

    Great stuff! I'm trying to find an optimum/efficient swing at the moment. Not interested in trying to thrash at the ball just to gain a few yards (+ lose direction, get tired by end of a round or do myself an injury) I'm going for controlled and consistency.👍

    Love this. I'm just learning, and I've actually noticed that when hit a controlled swing, it's "fine" (read, I hit the ball, it goes forward and into the air some distance with an 8I). Normal for me is 60/40 ratio (40 good, 60 bad) and, well, maximum is about the time all golfers in a 20 metre radius need to wear helmets. Problem is: do people actual game-manage enough and are clever enough to know when to hit those 'max' shots and 'controlled' shots in games? I suspect the average golfer doesn't do that enough, whereas the pro golfer does do that. Would that be a fair statement? Love the content as always, well done Drew and Thomas (PS: Drew, I feel your pain mate!). Dann

    At one point his controlled swing started looking like his bomb swing. I noticed you caught it while filming and slowed it down.

    I remember Ping did a study and it was a ratio of 3:1 distance to dispersion yardage for professionals and 2:1 for amateurs. Any less than that and it's not worth the added distance for loss in accuracy from a strokes gained perspective.

    It is more about consistency in your swing. Rory is a case in point. He has amazing swing speed but hits the ball consistently. Figuring out what that is, is key

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  3 года назад +3

      That's a great point. But most golfers are like Drew and can't swing at maximum speed with any consistency 😂

    Im so bad at trying to smash every ball down the fairway. It's actually got to the stages where I've taken my driver and 3 wood out the bag for my last round of golf. It didn't help lol. I'm going to go the range and just try and hit controlled shots and see where that takes me.

    On a serious note, I really need a driver fitting. This 3600-4000 spin is killing me.

    My lesson literally was about this yesterday.. weird! I swing way too hard and go out of tempo/sync and when I slow down to an almost comical level (for me) is when my contact and distance is maximized.

  • @LeprechaunGinger

    Funny, when I ran the same test I hit it much better when I swing driver at maximum speed. When I slow down I get out of sequence and start trying to steer the ball. Then it goes all over the place.

    How is he carrying his driver 260 with 104 swing speed? I'm at about 106 and get about 260 total

    • @xxthadeucexx
      @xxthadeucexx 3 года назад +3

      Launch conditions. Too low = less carry more roll. Too High = all carry no roll. When I got fit, my swing averaged 108 and my carry was 264 with my Mavrik and the TSi3. The difference was that the TSi3 dropped the spin rate and I got an additional 12 yards of roll compared to my Mavrik. That's just with spin changing.

      @@xxthadeucexx thanks. I've never been fit for any club so that could definitely be a factor.

      My guess (pretty common), the way you strike the ball puts a lot of spin on it. If you've got 104mph, you ideally want to be mid to high 2000rpm for backspin. Any more and the ball is going to hang up. This helps lower launch angle drivers get a bit extra carry, but at the expense of roll.
      On the flipside, if you do have low spin, but launch it low, the ball is going to fall out of the sky early as the spin can't keep it elevated. You may want to tee higher, put the ball forward and hit up on it.
      With a perfect swing, 108 is about the minimum speed for 300 yards.

    Looks like he should swing fast or slow, not normal speed. Dispersion is pretty close on normal and fast.

  • @cjlafleur7585

    One point I think that this video misses is that if you want more speed and distance, you have to learn to push yourself. If your normal ceiling is 100 and your in control swing is 95, and you want to increase the speed that you can control, you have to push yourself. If you then set out to reach 105, you can learn to do that and then maybe your new baseline is 100. This is an important way to improve your distance.
    The other thing it misses is that some people swing better when they go after it or when they smooth it. People have different tempos and body mechanics and all that.
    The third important point is fairways aren't everything. They can help but I'll take a wedge from the rough over a 7 iron from the fairway on most occasions.
