- Have you ever looked out of an airplane window and wished you could see more of the world from 7 miles above it? A new technology stands to put the best seat in the ceiling of the airplane. The Skydeck is a new design by Windspeed Technologies that places a teardrop shaped translucent dome in the roof of an aircraft. Twin seating in the dome lets passengers rotate 360˚ to see the sky from all angles.

Umm... that seems really inefficient considering that it would mean that it has more trouble cutting through air. It would slow down the plane increasing consumption of fuel and it'd make the flight more expensive as it takes up more room. From an economic and environmental standpoint this is really stupid.

HostileLemons yeah but everything has resistance. It's only more air resistance hence slower flights. Even if it is aerodynamic the smallest bits will add up.

HostileLemons that's true actually. But they'd have to be really expensive considering the mechanisms suggested in the video would require them to take up a fair amount of space in the actual cabin too.
Well it has not been implemented yet so i guess there is time to work out the finer details. You are corrent in saying it will take up quite a lot of cabin space. But i think the price of the bubble seats will make up for the price of a few economy seats. There is a wendover production video about the profits made from first class seats compared to economy seats. Essentially the few first and business class seats make the same profits as filling tens of economy seats. But in reality i doubt mysef they would implement the design. It would be cool if they did though.

The glass broke and you were sitting in it.....
There are 2 things that could happen.
1. You would be blown off the plane, which could be deadly at high altitudes.
2. The seat could get blown off the plane if you're using seatbelts.
(No. 2 is not accurate, please correct me if I am wrong.)

Just a normal account and nothing else It's not transparent aluminum. It's the type of glass that is being used in the cockpits of fighter/stealth jets.
I wonder if this company has made studies of structural weakness that may cause drilling a hole this size on a plane that was not designed to have it...

No. The wings need anti-ice systems due to the cold temperatures. Hopefully, the two effects cancel out and it is warm.

There’s no possible way that thing would work while it does seem cool as concept it just don’t think it would work as of how would oxygen get up there and the possibility of the a passenger dying from the glass being in a non pressurized dome would not only break the glass but would possibly cause a chain reaction to a possible plane crash

They need to add ones to the bottom of the plane, it would have a much better view. They also need to add windows on the front of the bottom floor of A380s and Boeing 747s.

this is such a dumb idea, just install a glass dome at the back of the plane or even better, just do away with all the windows and have giant screens along the inside of the cabin, so it looks like your flying in a glass plane! then everyone pays a premium and it lasts the entire flight, not just half an hour for the uber rich.

engineers haven't even worked out that if you standardise interlocking cabin luggage we could all board much faster. Common sense often cancels out engineering and so called good design
Garry Clayton if you make a glass pane/cabin ..it will be super thick and heavy to withstand all the air pressure ....and what if lightning strikes the plane ? sure the shockwave will shatter the glass ...owh and interlocking cabin can be less secured and requires the all airports it lands to be renovated...also the plane itself need to be really big to install a secure guaranteed locking mechanism.....logic
