Love it. This is now the big item in my bucket list! I wonder if PocketShip has any female builders yet. I wouldn't mind being the first! Congrats to John on a gorgeous design that makes owning a cruising sailboat seem like an attainable dream!
This is definitely my style. So amazing how maximized and comfortable the cockpit is. Probably possibe because you put the ballast you dont need big rails to sit on.
Superb video. This, and its companion video, are examples of how a sailing video should be done. Perfect:. East Coast sailors must be either bolder or have more predictable winds than us chickens out on the West Coast, who are always navigating bottom-side-up.
The rocker curve is just about right approximating a sinewave that fits the waves while the Vee bottom is kind and does not slam in waves. The sail id big enough for a good turn of speed while the size is handy for the busy man who cannot send too much time preparing the boat. Accommodation is reasonable and the comfort at the back is good, Rudder is effective and the high cabin does help to increase stability when heeled a lot. An excellent design in all directions. Perhaps using fibreglass would help to reduce maintenance in the long run, especially if this craft is used in fresh water. This boat is good for offshore sailing if the ballast is increased a little.
John, Thats a terrific able craft. It doesnt fit through my basement condo window [like my sail rigged kayak] but I appreciate the work you put into it. Jaunty ship andf with a cabin lo less.
Nice commercial. I love the clown car scene with all the kids climbing out. I remember one time we stuffed an entire neighborhood of kids into my Dad's triumph spitfire trying to convince my Mom to take us to the movies.
Shining hull, great sanding + putty work... What is the angle of vanishing stability? Less then 90 and self righting? I build a 4.2 meter 3 chine sailboat and hull shape is similar (without cabin...) Great boat...It really tickled that feeling inside me again...Thanks...
Super boat John. Are they only gaff rigged, and will it flip in high winds? We have winds on Port Philip Bay, Victoria Australia that easily flip from west to east.
Still considering designs fro a winter build here in FL. How far over is the roll before the weather helm turns the rudder lose? Was this a design criteria or measured after the first sailing?
Thanks for sharing such a beauty...I built two hardchine sailboats, one a 4.2 meters open deck and second was much smaller but i really don't remember the lod...Something around 2.1 meters, with a markoni rig and a genoa (yes, not a jib!). I sold them both and now desperate to grab the helm once more and feel that "thing". My question, is there an option for markoni rig instead of gaff? Somehow i don't like gaff rigs (except the lower c.e.). Thanks once more...
this is great! I have a Potter 15 and this looks just as much if not more stable - how much ballast and what are the specs? will she flip in high winds?
Only one reply from the designer .....and very old video, so little or no chance of a reply to my question now . What happens in a knock down ? Sink immediately? Anyway cool boat and sails very well
Sorry, just saw this. PocketShip has a self-bailing cockpit, so it's extremely unlikely to flood in a knock-down. With lead ballast in the keel, the boat is self-righting in anything besides huge breaking waves. In addition, there is enough built-in foam flotation to ensure the boat remains upright and afloat in the event of a swamping.
This boat is a fantastic piece of design. It is not my kind of boat, but I really can see how well founded the whole design is. Absolutely brilliant !

This guy has such a unique style of communicating.
Wow, what a pretty little design, and the video is obviously put together by a pro. Looks the perfect small boat cruising boat to me!

Nice little cruiser. Thanks for posting.
what a wonderful lilttle boat John - well done
Very nice job on the boat. I hope she is still going strong.
I love this! What a great job you did!
Very well built... most importantly, it sails well! congrats!

Nice Design, and that rig is beautiful! I also have problems finding my pencil :)
This is the best thing I have ever seen! I tip my tri-corner captains hat to you (yes I am wearing one)
Sweet bluff bow. Nice lines.
A bowsprit to threaten jet skiers. Hahaha, So that's what those are for. I want one!
Cute little boat. Well done !

Beautiful design!! By the way I am building one and showing in my channel
A beautiful little boat! :)
Was there never a follow up video of the cabin interior? All I can find is the new video of launching and sailing. This is such a cool boat!
Joy to behold!
Needs a soft and removable bimini. Like a tent cloth shade that goes up or down easy and can protect the person at the tiller.

CLC just simply does light craft affordably and practical...paddle or sail, the design good craft.

I think that is really nice.
Sweet. Like the shorter mast of the gaff rig for ease of raising and lowering. Does the main require running backstays?
No running backstays. The side shrouds have enough aft spread to hold the stick up.
Amazing!
very nice
How do you do yearly maintenance on the keel board well? Is it wide enough to fit hand/tools for sanding and repainting?
tolles boot...ach ich möchte noch mal 30 sein...oder 40 ?

What'st the price?
What's affectation?
I want a Pocketship so bad my teeth hurt.
dreamy
Why am I thinking "West Wight Potter"?
if i were to spend 500 hours on something, i dont think i would wanna break a bottle on the hull... whether it brings goodluck or not. =P
