  • A look at the Karcher K7 Premium Smart Control. Smart control is a bit of a waste of time and money. This is a great power washer and very good at cleaning dirty patios. Knowing what I know now, I would not opt for smart control and save some money.

I have decided to go for the K7 Premium Smart control with the T racer connection, I know the smart control is useless but I do not think I can buy it without unless I buy an older model. I am glad that I could help Colin. I was using my K7 this morning and it is a good machine. I have also got my hands on an Ava Master P80 and in my opinion it is a better power washer than the Karcher K7. There is an issue with some of the Ava Master P80 machines here in the UK due to the 13A fuse in the UK plugs. Not a problem for Sweden though. Either machine will get the job done. Enjoy your new machine! :-)

      Hi Karen, I have never used detergent on my patio, so I can not really comment on whether it is worth using. I find that the pressure washer does a perfectly acceptable job without pre soaking with detergent. It may make a difference, but my patio areas always get very dirty and mouldy over winter as my house is completely surrounded by deciduous trees. I have to clean it every year and don't bother with detergent. I do use detergent for some other jobs. Detergent certainly would not hurt, but it can become a little expensive if you are cleaning large areas. :-)

    I wonder, is there any difference between T450 patio cleaner and this T7 racer patio cleaner? Cant seem to find the answer anywhere on the net.
    Also do you know, per chance, ehat difference, and if, is there between premium full control version of K7 and Premium Smart control, besides the app?
    Smart control seems to have a bit of a newer machine or something, but not sure if this model is better than the few year old one.
    Thanks!

    • @RussellPlatten
      @RussellPlatten  3 года назад +1

      I cannot see any real difference between the T450 and T7 patio cleaners. As for Full Control, this means that the pressure of the vario lance is altered by twisting the end of the lance to increase or decrease the fan spread. Smaller spread, higher pressure. On the Smart Control, there is a different lance and the pressure is adjusted by selecting it electronically using the buttons on the lance. I personally would go for the Full Control, the good old fashioned way the adjust the pressure. Much less to go wrong with it. You can see full control demonstrated on the review I made of my K4 a few years ago. Compare it to this review and you will see the difference. The display on the Full Control gun only indicates the pressure at the nozzle and will change as you alter the vario lance. :-)

    Great review Russell. I see that the T7 racer/patio cleaner works on the K4, K5 and K7. I'm going to be buying a new Karcher washer soon so I wonder could you tell me if the T7 racer works more powerfully on the K7 than say the K4 as I'm only buying for patio cleaning and if the output on the racer was the same I'd just get the smaller verion washer if that makes sense?

    • @RussellPlatten
      @RussellPlatten  3 года назад

      Hi Ciaran, the T7 racer is much better on the K7. I also have the K4, it has had a hard life and has developed an issue so I decided to upgrade. The K7 is far better. I reviewed the K4 with a patio cleaner and you can see the difference. The T7 racer uses the water pressure to spin and a higher pressure means more revolutions and more cleaning power. The K4 did do a great job, but it is slower. :-)

      Yes Vic, I can see Ava of Norway taking over the market. Their Master P80 I reviewed is much better to use than the K7 and has no gimmicks. Much longer guarantee too. I think Karcher have started to take advantage of their loyal customer base! :-)

    Many thanks Russell, an excellent video - way better than the Karcher efforts.
    My K7 Premium has been stolen along with mountain bikes, golf equipment, etc. Anyway, I never used the Bluetooth function - exactly because, as you said, Karcher doesn't explain anything about it - even in their booklet or on their videos.
    So, like you, I have a lot of patio and paths front and back, so I need high performance. If I didn't go for the K7 Premium again to avoid paying for the Smart function, which model would you suggest, please?
    The thieves didn't take the T-Racer attachment, but this is not an optional extra anyway. So it's just a spare now.

    • @RussellPlatten

      I would forget about Karcher and look at Ava of Norway pressure washers. I have reviewed two of their machines and they are great value with a long warranty. I am not an affiliate and do not have any discount codes or links to their products. I was in contact with them for a few weeks when they asked me to review their machines and they seem like a company that actually cares about their customers and their products. Karcher make good machines, but they keep adding useless modifications/functions to allow them to up the price for no real gain to the customer. I have been very impressed with the two machines from Ava that I reviewed. No gimmicks, just a well built pressure washer with a long warranty and good performance. Better than Karcher in my opinion! Your T-Racer will fit the Ava washers too. :-)

    Just doesn’t seem THAT powerful where as yours does
    My tap delivers the water rate you advise, although that seems to be lower at the end of the hose... maybe that’s a RUclips.
    The t racer seems really weak too - the mode select for it appears to be the mixer, is that an issue?
    I’m just really underwhelmed - I was expecting it to shift dirt like it does in your video !
    Maybe mines a dud 😭

    • @RussellPlatten
      @RussellPlatten  3 года назад

      Hi Richard. I don't understand what you mean by the mode select. If you are using the high pressure jet, the dirt grinder or the t racer for your patio, your gun should be set at maximum pressure. If you have the lance set to mix, it will not develop a high pressure. Just twist the end of the lance to the dirt grinder nozzle for your patio as this is better than the jet. The t racer should be run on the highest pressure too. Adjust the pressure using the + button on the handle. :-)

    • @rjs.
      @rjs. 3 года назад

      @@RussellPlatten hi Russell thanks for the reply.
      I explained poorly but I’ve figured it out - right before I was about to give up!
      The pressure at my tap is good. The pressure at the end of the hose is not.
      I swapped out for a short section of hose and wow, it’s actually insane the difference it’s made!
      It’s so so powerful!
      The issue I guess is the hose length and being able to maintain pressure that far.

    • @RussellPlatten
      @RussellPlatten  3 года назад +2

      Yes, the pressure drop across a long hose can be considerable. That is why I measured the flow at the end of the hose. The way around using a shorter hose is to get a high pressure hose extension if you cannot reach all the areas you want to. Well done for sussing it out! Happy cleaning! :-)

    Great review. It was good to see the inlet water flow requirements. However it would be good to see what the output flow rate is out the pressure washer gun.
    Reason being I have done a test with my Karcher K4 spraying into a bucket with a hole in the lid to minimise any water loss. Karcher state the K4 uses 7 litres a minute. However I found this was closer to 5 litres on the max pressure on the vario lance. Which 40% less in flow. I have no idea how to measure the pressure in bars but if the flow is 40% less then stated then the pressure must be less as well
    Would be good to see on a K7 to see how close it is to the stated spec. It may also mean you don't need a supply as high as 12 liters a minute from the tap. As if the output is less then 12 litres the input must not use 12 litres.
    Keep up the helpful consumer advice 👌

      Unfortunately, manufacturers are permitted to use the maximum pressure achievable under laboratary conditions and this means that the specified max pressure figure is probably when the pump is running and then dead headed with maximum flow rate and inlet pressure. None of which would really be possible in the real world.
      The pressure is increased by restricting the flow so the flow rate will be less than the maximum stated flow which will be achieved in a laboratory too and be measured with the pump operating without a discharge hose connected and at max inlet pressure.
      However since all manufacturers do the same thing, the K7 will be better than the K4 and probably have a max discharge pressure in the real world of around 140/150bar. It is pretty devious, but unfortunately if a manufacturer was honest with the figures, they would sell fewer machines than their competitors.
      Sorry to ramble on David, as you can tell it annoys me! LOL :-)

      Hi Russell
      I agree its quite annoying and all industries are affected by these overinflated lab figures that come with a small print. Hard to compare between brands and even models.
      Checking out this video by obsessed garage. They did a test on pressure flow and electrical draw. ruclips.net/video/eAXXPSBFRug/видео.html. They tested all the karcher K series versions available in the states. However the K7 is not available in the states. They found the K4 and K5 are identical. Although they look like the older design models to be fair. Its worth a watch.
      Cheers

      The AVA pressure washers featured by Russell maybe the way forward. Definitely matches Kranzle for build and servicing ability and probably better for the consumer market with a long warranty compared to the Kranzle 1 year warranty.
      Will be looking into a AVA replacement once my karcher eventually stops working.

    So I've only used this pressure washer one time. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxfQauTxLT0JLSvqkq10rD79TU4k0Vz8zP The one time I used it, it worked great. I recently had new siding installed but kept the old gutters and small areas surrounding my house that weren't replaced so they looked horrible and dirty because of the new siding. I needed to get it cleaned asap. When I used the pressure washer, man it just melted all the dirt and grime that was on those areas of my house. I used that krud kutter soap and it was over after that. Easy to assemble, feels durable, very simple to use. Also, I purchased a used one to save money and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. I want to get more use out of it so I think I'll be washing the cars and update this comment as time goes on.

      It literally adds more time as you have to open the app, select the task and send the pump setting to the washer instead of selecting the pressure on the gun! I think that the instructions do not include the app because people who research products before they buy, will see it is a bit of a con Paul! The app should be free and just have the steps and settings for various tasks. Basically, online instructions! :-)

Both K 1152TS-T and the formidable HD 10 / 122 both are 10 Liter machines albeit with less Pressure ( k1152 =130 BAr and HD10/122 = 120 BAr ) that dont matter that the pressure is not 180 BAr or what not.. what is important is flow rate. Trust me both the 10 liter machines are great and the UFO surface cleaner BLue Plastic one is absolutely brilliant !! add alittle wd 40 to the spinning arm.. it has a built in spinning arm protection plate.. the UFO is light robust and simply highly effective.. The detailers often use the 7/122 ( 1400 rpm machine ) because it can suck water out of any container , bucket or barrel and also has lower amps and watts to use on a Generator ( mobile cleaning ) If you live in a soft water area get either the 10/122 or even better the K1152 TST with total stop and a hose reel ( much better hose and reel than karcher !! ) and is 15 meters of hose . so in short, the whole smart , isnt smart at all. the smart function is just an app on the phone which is actually just a guide with how to use the system. rather than being able to do anything with the system with the hose. so they have wasted money and resources for the new version, only to do a slight revision to the design visually, and add a "app" thats just a different way of looking at their normal guide.
