If anyone is interested, the terms, two bits, four bits etc. are derived from when Spanish silver coins were divided into pieces of eight and called pieces of eight. Therefore two bits would be 25c and four bits 50c and so on up to eight bits which would be one dollar. Even when broken up they had value equivalent to their weight in silver. This is also why we have the terms, half a dollar and a quarter.
@jackobean3962 What were they? It is my understanding that the word "dollar" comes from the German word "thaler" which was the currency of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. This corresponds with the fact that at one time it was possible that German would become the lingua franca of what is now the United States of America.
Douglass Dumbrille! He strikes me as one of the finest supporting actors ever, capable of matching the energy of any opponent, hero or villain, and raising the overall quality of any scene he is in by 50% - he is just a dynamo.
I love it! I enjoyed the twists of the thievery, the love story was a pleasant surprise. Good screenplay. Good comedy. Of course, I love that the Lone Wolf always comes out on top but is never arrogant. One of the most likable thieves ever. Thank you very much for posting.
Well, that was good. Whether or not as good as the Warren William ones I couldn’t say, but the love affair was beautiful and, the gentleman’s gentleman was funny, and Crane excellent.
You are SO CORRECT. Just finished viewing film & liked it. But, have to admit, it had a slower pace than the Warren William versions. Plus, the chemistry between Michael Lanyard & his footman (aka servant) wasn't as sharp in this particular Melvyn Douglas serial version.
@@MichaelGunner123 I agree. Eric Blore is an all-time-favorite-butler. And Melvyn Douglas, even though very likable in his own way, can't quite reach Warren William's spunk, determination, zest, wit, humor, and charme that are so perfect for this series.
Love seeing a really beautiful and talented actress like Gail Patrick

How interesting
They still call them "reales" in some latin american countries. No such coin is in circulation now, but they still use the term. 1 real is 12.5 cents.

He had the voice and the looks and the cool style to handle any role in any film.

Douglass Dumbrille one of many Canadians acting in Hollywood films in the thirties and forties
This man has it sorted - constant adaptive behaviour to a financial goal.

I was going to name my son Tyrel, but some one else named him the same as
WHO in the film is named Tyrel? Plus, you didn't complete your statement. Confused in Mississippi.Thx in advance.
Perhaps that someone was the Mrs? Still a puzzle what is meant.
I was going to change my name to Jesus but, someone already had that name
Wow! First was last!
For me sorry but I like Gail patrick
Sorry, as much as I hate to say, she would have insured her jewelry to the hilt. So where is the panic?!
The premiums would have gone up
