I feel like when you are given "ethnic" or "regional" food you are always given poorly prepared versions of whatever it is. I noticed that when you did the Thanksgiving video and also now with the Jewish food video. "Matzo ball soup" for example is any soup, usually regular chicken soup, with matzo balls in it - those can be hard to make right. I don't know what oil you had floating there... Also, Tahdig *isn't even a Jewish food*, it's Persian! And Bourekas, while popular in Israel is from the Balkans and not a traditionally Jewish food, and at least serve it warm! And don't worry LJG, there is a TON of meat in kosher cooking. And the Maror?! It should just be shredded horseradish, what the hell did you do to it?! (Also "eaten" wouldn't be the word I'd use. It's eaten _sparingly_ during the seder, it's not a dish served.)
Tahdig is served on Passover and many Shabbat meals in the homes of Persian Jews, sometimes with a potato burned on the bottom. But it is never eaten alone, but served with some type of meat stew.
You're absolutely right, they need to fire their chef and seek out professional chefs. I have never been to Ireland, but the fact that this many people are unaware of "ethnic food" leads me to infer that the restaurants in Ireland don't have a great variety of choice. No wonder New York city blows their minds.
@@72Yonatan yes, plenty of Persian Jews eat tahdig, but it isn't a specifically Jewish food. There are plenty of Jewish foods from the Levant and North Africa they could have chosen.
I love you for setting them straight. I was perplexed as a Jew, as to why this was how all was presented, except for the brisket. Donal was completely redeemed in this video - he was hilarious "I want to be a little Jewish boy." LOL
As an adult I don't identify with religion, but having grown up in a Jewish family, I have to say that every "Jewish food taste test" video I've seen on youtube (this, Buzzfeed, All Def Digital, etc...) have all been really really terrible representations of "Jewish food"-- which itself is such a broad phrase. They unanimously make "Jewish" food out to be nasty or totally tasteless, colorless, bland mush. And Maror is not Jewish "food." It is symbolically eaten in a tiny portion a few times during the seder before the real meal even begins. No one eats maror as food. And Bourekas are heavenly, so those must have been some awful supermarket-bought things. And I only know my mother's matzoh ball soup, so I don't know what awful stuff was put in front of you guys. And that brisket was definitely just stew... every culture makes some sort of variation of a stew... it's not a "Jewish" dish necessarily. Also, it should be noted that there are Ashkenazi Jews and Sephardic Jews and the foods associated with the two sects are vastly different from one another. Videos like these often feature the Ashkenazi foods because that's what seems to be most widely known by non-Jews; I suppose because of companies like Manishcewitz and Gefen, which do cater largely to Ashkenazi Jews. With as little Sephardic bias as possible, I must admit that Ashkenazi foods are kinda... uhhhh.... not that great (in my opinion). More on the bland side. But maybe what's bland for me is delicious for people who didn't grow up with as much spice in their food like I did with my Sephardic family. I just wish these videos were tackled in a better way, advised by a more involved source. Too late now though haha. Unless you want a part 2! (Hit me up, Facts! :P)
stephen white Yeah, it's one of those stereotypical Irish things, I guess. Also, I remember an Irish folk song I saw on youtube, about an Irish guy and his cousin beating the English soldiers with shillelaghs, or something, lol.
I agree that the Brisket with broth is the most delicious item that they ate. But the potato onion borekas are delicious when you get used to them. But Bourekas must be fresh and served warm for the best experience.
Jews lived in the Persian Empire for quite along time and adopted cuisines from different places all around the world but trying Jewish Tahdig and trying Iranian Tahdig is a very different experience.

It can be like that, but in our family we always used horseradish, usually jarred, but occasionally fresh. Good Craic. These "Facts" videos are very entertaining. As an American of some Irish ancestry even I have the closed caption feature enabled to assist me in understanding what they say at times. I think there are some Gaelic words and phrases peppered in , because I cant get it and from time to time the closed caption prints a series of words that make no sense in English. It's endearing and I thank You for brightening my day. I've had my interest in the language of my ancestors renewed.
Just FYI the maror (aka horeradish) is almost never eaten plain; it's often eaten with matzo. Some substitute (or add) romaine lettuce instead of horseradish which is a lot more palatable. Also the bourekas are often served hot, so you got that right. Finally, Tahdig is Persian and usually the crispy rice on the bottom of the pot. It's not usually bland either, rather it's often spiced with saffron, herbs, or spices, making a crispy layer of rice people usually fight over. Nice vid overall!
Wtf tahdig isn't Jewish food; it's Persian. I should know, because my family is from Iran and we eat it all the time. You can also find it at any Persian restaurant you go to.
I'm not surprised that Jews would copy Persian food because in their history they praise the Persians so much about how they freed them from the Babylonians.
Jews lived in the Persian Empire for quite along time and adopted cuisines from different places all around the world but trying Jewish Tahdig and trying Iranian Tahdig is a very different experience.

Well, there was at least one item misidentified as Jewish, as noted above. More significant is that they managed to serve both meat and dairy courses. Unfortunately for Donal, that means the whole meal was treif.
+Daniel Reitman I've been wanting to convert to Judaism but I'm home from uni so I can't go to synagogue as there isn't one here (I miss attending). Am I right in thinking you need to leave 6 hours between meat and dairy? I'm vegan, so it wouldn't be an issue for me.
+Stacey Goundry.....Yes, did most orthodox it's 6 hours. However, soy cheese tastes good too. Just not as good as the real thing. Eating vegetarian is easier. Most orthodox homes won't keep milk and dairy in the same fridge, use the same pots, pans and utensils or even place them in the same sinks. It can get confusing,
Jews lived in the Persian Empire for quite along time and adopted cuisines from different places all around the world but trying Jewish Tahdig and trying Iranian Tahdig is a very different experience.
Most food historians believe that it was invented by Jews in Persia and over time became part of Persian Cuisine. People forget that the Jewish Diaspora brought and created many foods that overtime have become identified with the culture the Jews lived in. Fish and Chips were brought by Jews from the Netherlands to England but most people think of it as a british food. And that is one of hundreds of classic examples. A food that was originally Jewish but overtime became part of the culture the Jews lived in
Facts try NYC street food - Uncle Gussy's, a knish from Katz & Dogz, Dirty Water hot dogs, breakfast carts (true NYC bagel), Milk Truck (classic grilled cheese) pretzels & last but not least, The Halal Guys= the best!
tahdig is Persian... literally means bottom of the pot in Persian. it's the cooked rice at the bottom of the pot and can also be crispy bread or potatoes at the bottom. probably brought to Israel by Persian jews
Tahdig (ته دیگ) is served to guests at a meal. Tahdig (Persian: ته دیگ, tah "bottom" + dīg "pot") is a specialty of Iranian cuisine consisting of crisp rice taken from the bottom of the pot in which the rice (chelow) is cooked.[2] It is traditionally served to guests at a meal.[3] Ingredients commonly added to tahdig include yogurt and saffron, bread, potato, tomato, and fruits such as sour cherry. Variations of tahdig include placing thin vegetable slices at the bottom of the pot, so they crisp up instead of the rice, these vegetables include potato, carrots, and lettuce.[4] Iranians sometimes apply this cooking method to spaghetti as well, providing a hardened base.[5] It's like the soccarat of a paella w/o the paella...
+Daya Ryelle-Remar I don't mean other herbs mixed in or whatever and no, you usually don't add a lot of things to the horseradish. I mean for Passover Jewish people we don't just take a spoonful of it and eat it, add ins or not. It's absurd that they are just eating spoonfuls of horseradish
+Natanya T I'm Jewish. I celebrate Passover, I know the meanings behind the food. You take the horseradish and put it between Matzo. That's why I'm saying it's weird, because Jewish people don't just eat spoonfuls of horseradish
In my family, we don't do "spoonfuls" of horseradish, we eat it as just the root chopped up, and you take a piece. There are two points where you eat maror, one time it is just plain, just take the root and eat it. The other time you're allowed to use matzo and charoset to offset it. If you get unlucky, or take a big piece of the root, then some people around the table have reactions not dissimilar to that. But it's only the one piece, not a big bowlful of the stuff.
Wait I didn't know Tahdig was Jewish. We often eat it here in Iran too. I mean it's a combination of tah (ته) which means the bottom and dig (دیگ) which means the pot. Is it different from ours? I'm kind of confused because of their reaction Tahdig it's absolutely tasty

Leather Jacket Guy!! Yes!!!!!!!!
I feel that his talent (wearing that hair with that jacket and speaking in that accent) is being wasted. He should be in a movie about himself.
+Daya Ryelle-Remar He's deadly with the one liner's, I luv him, he's my fav too
"It's like a Jewish woman gettin' married- it's fallin' to pieces!"
He is a vampire
Just FYI the maror (aka horeradish) is almost never eaten plain; it's often eaten with matzo. Some substitute (or add) romaine lettuce instead of horseradish which is a lot more palatable. Also the bourekas are often served hot, so you got that right. Finally, Tahdig is Persian and usually the crispy rice on the bottom of the pot. It's not usually bland either, rather it's often spiced with saffron, herbs, or spices, making a crispy layer of rice people usually fight over. Nice vid overall!
No chulent? No Kugel? I'm disappointed.
Heimishe food FTW. Gefilte fish, yapchik, kishke, p'tcha...
just love watching Donal licking the plates! And leather jacket guy's question at the end?! so random. love it!
+Sailus there are Persian Jews
Persia did occupy much of the middle east including Israel thousands of years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if they influenced the cuisine of the area.
Jews lived in the Persian Empire for quite along time and adopted cuisines from different places all around the world but trying Jewish Tahdig and trying Iranian Tahdig is a very different experience.
Jews come from all over the place, including Persia.
LOLOLOL Donal!!! with the plate of pastry crumbs...aye You're All Class hahahaha
I LOVE the guy in the leather jacket oml
I'm not Jewish but when I was a kid we had hamentashen around all the time. They're quite tasty with some tea or coffee.
ARE YA HAVIN THAT HAS RETURNED
keep'em comin' boys......keep'em comin'....
Great video! You keep making them, and I'll keep watching 'em.
I'm Irish..... a member of the McCracken clan. So funny...... I love it.
I love horseradish as much as the next Jewish chick, but no way am I going to DRINK it from a bowl!
I have no idea how I found this site BUT I FREAKING LOVE IT
Hilarious! This is my favorite one so far! Favorite comment: "D'ya know what's great to get rid of the taste? Have another bite!"
Love brisket and veggies. In addition to the potatoes and carrot we toss in a quartered onion and cabbage. Love, love, love it.
As a Jew....I have been waiting for this! Now, try Russian food!
Russian food??
It's not fair to feed someone maror. It is just horseradish. That is like giving someone a jalapeno to bite into and calling it Mexican food. Come on.
Cue the complaints that it wasn't Jewish enough.
that's not my complaint, my complaints are that how the FUCK did they not like motzah ball soup. jk, my actual complaint is that they didn't try latkes
Well, there was at least one item misidentified as Jewish, as noted above.
More significant is that they managed to serve both meat and dairy courses. Unfortunately for Donal, that means the whole meal was treif.
Most of them seemed to dig the soup.
It can get confusing,
We only eat a spoonful 2 times at the Passover Seder . Why didn’t they serve chocolate babaka or hamantashen that’s yummy .
leather jacket man is back!!!! yay!
The lady in the red top said the most sensible things I've ever seen in a Facts video, straight and to the point.
Tahdig is deffintly not a jewish food. It is a Persian food. :/
Jews lived in the Persian Empire for quite along time and adopted cuisines from different places all around the world but trying Jewish Tahdig and trying Iranian Tahdig is a very different experience.
Quailbait yea.. i dont think there is one person in the world that doesnt like persian tahdig
A food that was originally Jewish but overtime became part of the culture the Jews lived in
Who is the long dark-haired guy? He's a riot!
the guy in the black shirt with the beard I keep thinking that he is Charlie Day with a deeper voice and an accent

tahdig is Persian... literally means bottom of the pot in Persian. it's the cooked rice at the bottom of the pot and can also be crispy bread or potatoes at the bottom. probably brought to Israel by Persian jews
LJG is back yaaass!!! 👏🏻😍
Variations of tahdig include placing thin vegetable slices at the bottom of the pot, so they crisp up instead of the rice, these vegetables include potato, carrots, and lettuce.[4] Iranians sometimes apply this cooking method to spaghetti as well, providing a hardened base.[5]
It's like the soccarat of a paella w/o the paella...
They forgot gifilte fish.
Those poor souls don't need that devil fish 😂
You forgot how to spell it.
He's back! Are ya having that?!
No Jewish people just eat plain horseradish??? wtf??? why would you do that to yourselves???
***** I'm Jewish. I'm telling you we don't just eat plain horseradish, at least not may family or any of the Jewish people I've talked too.
Not by itself for no reason. Google "maror".
Can you do a part-2 with potato kugel, rugelach, charoset, and challah?
So they've got time travelers from the 80's on here now? Nice!
Did you see the redheaded girl from a previous video who kept getting called Barb in the comments because she looked like Barb from Stranger Things?
girl in red dress looked like Anna Kendrik though
Wait I didn't know Tahdig was Jewish. We often eat it here in Iran too. I mean it's a combination of tah (ته) which means the bottom and dig (دیگ) which means the pot. Is it different from ours? I'm kind of confused because of their reaction Tahdig it's absolutely tasty
