Q: if you don’t, thankfully, use your seam ripper a lot, how do you know that the blades are getting dull? I love your comment section- lots of great ideas your community adds to each video. Love from Alaska 🙋🏻♀️🏔️💕
You will know if the blade is getting dull because it won’t break the threads when you push it through the seam. It should cut the threads without too much force. I hope that helps :)
Thanks so much for the excellent explanation and warnings. I followed someone else's seam ripper instructions and ripped a hole in the neckline out of brand new blouse. That's very exasperating so thanks for that warning! Have a great day!
I remember the first time I used the red ball to zip open a seam. And I also remember the first time I caught one side of the fabric and gashed a hole in it. I still zip seams open with the red ball but I'm a little more careful with it these days! Also a seam ripper makes a great substitute for a stiletto when sewing, and it's a good second use for one that's gotten dull over time (just make sure to mark it so you don't try to use it to rip a seam).
Hi. What if the seams are overlocked together, instead of separately like you showed at 2:11? I can't access the seam, so do I need to unpick the overlock first before unpicking the seam?
72 years old and sewing for 63 of those years and never knew this! I feei like sewing a seam now just to try it out! Thank you see much🥰
Try it! It’s so gratifying when it opens right up quickly!
What? How is it no one ever told me about that red ball before?! Thank you so much Anastasia, you just saved me a ton of time and frustration!!
So happy to hear! Have a lovely day :)
I'VE BEEN SUFFERING FOR NO REASON!
Happy to make seam ripping easier for you.

@@SewAnastasia it does help! Thank you.
Great! I’ve seen other YT sewing influencers exhaling this, but your were the best. Thank you!
I really appreciate that :) 💖 I hope you share it with your sewing friends 👯♂️
Going to try this - I have a ton of projects I’ve been stalling on because I don’t want to rip seams all day 😂 P.S. that top is the cutest!!!!
I just learned this a few years ago after sewing for many years!!
It is so helpful right!? Happy seam ripping.

I sewed for decades before I found out what the little red ball was for!

Yes you will need to unpick everything.
Been sewing 45 years and never knew there was a "right" way to use a seam ripper.
Crazy right?! Thank you for watching 💖
