I was wondering the same thing! Was this Latias following them around, essentially vetting them this whole time while Latios was injured somewhere? Lol. Maybe they’ll pop up again in the final episode.
I think the ending is impling that the finally to the heroes movie also created another latios and latias which would also explain why they didn't recognize ash even though in universe it still hasn't even been a year
In the movie it said there were multiple latios and latias though and plus later on we got tobias, with a different latios, so no there's just multiple.
It was implied in the Pokémon ruby and emerald games that I had that whilst legendary Pokémon they're rare rather than singular Pokémon like most other legendary Pokémon.
It might be that this latios and latias are family of M05 latias, most likely cousins. They were probably told by bianca, M05 latias or lorenzo about trainers who saved alto mare. This latias probably realized after seeing ash, brock and misty helping pokemon. That they are those trainers, so she can trust them to save latios.
I knew he wouldnt catch anything. Although im not too excited for the next episode or the next series. I dont get excited as much anymore. Especially now well never get a proper reunion for ash and serena 8/10
Fun facts. Bianca's Japanese name Kanon is the same as the title of the music for the kiss scene. And the girl appeared in the kiss scene was slightly out of breath while Latias disguised as Bianca didn't show any sign of fatigue when she and Ash ran away from antagonists.
It was Latias. No question. For example, she didn't make any sounds, just like Latias was always mute in her human form, and a Latias distributed to celebrate the fifth movie being voted as the most popular OS movie knew the move Sweet Kiss, which it cannot normally learn.

This arc was a huge waste of time. There was no point naking ash and latias develop a bond if she wasn't gonna join him. It's basically nebby and meloetta all over again
Sadly I don't think we are going to see what ash friends are doing which is dumb we are saying goodbye to them as well like I'm going into the new series with the mindset we are having a completely clean slate so I don't get my hopes up. Also another big shift from past series is their is a lot of main adults
I mean, we have seen what most of Ash's friends are up to in their Journeys returns, I don't really have any big questions left for any of the companions. And my hopes are up for the new series mainly *because* it's a clean slate haha. That's exciting to me

I watch it with my daughter every week and she loves it. Seeing it through your child’s eyes is what makes an adult a true fan.
Such a waste of a chance to get an answer to the second most important question in pokemon anime's history... .

I thought that all people from that town were latias and latios in disguise. He just didnt meet one that kissed him but she appeared at the end

Kinda cool they show the old latias but seem very out of place to add there there as if ashe was gunna see her again. But still pretty cool to see

Journeys in general has been extremely disappointing from a story telling perspective. I hate to be that guy, but the narrative peaked in XYZ.
Pokemon anime is already never the same without Ash around.
