    But Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are not regions of England. The French understood that and that´s why they were confused by the question. They thought you meant counties of England.

      I’ve never understood, I’ve always been told that there were 2 countries: Southern Island and the UK and that inside the UK there were regions (Northern Island, Whales, England and Scotland, is that wrong?

      Al Murray has a good routine about this. IIRC it starts with a Man. City fan in a bar who hates the Man Utd fan next to him until someone from Liverpool walks in, then the two Mancunians become best friends and both hate the Liverpudlian. Then a Yorkshireman comes in and the three Lancastrians gang up on the Yorkie. Then a southerner comes in and they four northerners agree how much they hate southerners. Then a Scotsman walks in and they four Englishmen join forces against the Scot. Then a Frenchman comes in all the Britons are united in their hatred for him!

      You know it’s really hard for us. Even if we have the same alphabet, the pronunciations are not the same. For example for us it is difficult to pronounce the "th"; the "r" and the "h"!
      If you take the example of Harry Potter, a lot of french say "Arry"; "Ermioneuh"; "Agrid"... and not "Harry"; "Hermione" and "Hagrid". We don't say Slytherin but Slyzerin. (even in french it's Serpentard).

      It was definitely a dumb question. I'd count at least ten regions in england alone. Wales has at least two. Don't know for Scotland but I would say around five.

      Disconnected Roamer No, they’re not. The United Kingdom was originally brought about by two independent kingdoms merging. Kingdoms eventually morphed into what we today call nation states. The name isn’t United Regions. Each of the United Kingdom’s four nations retain their status at nations or countries, but not independent states. The state is the United Kingdom.

      Le drapeau du Royaume Uni, c'est le fameux Union Jack (sorte de mélange du drapeau écossais, anglais , avec la croix de saint Patrick). Le drapeau Anglais, c'est celui qu'on voit entre chaque question...
      Voilà voilà... Et ne pas confondre Royaume Uni et Grande Bretagne, puisque la Grande Bretagne fait référence à la plus grande île du Royaume Uni (c'est à dire là où il y'a l'Angleterre, le Pays de Galles et l'Ecosse... Mais y'a pas l'Irlande du Nord).

    They were pronouncing edinburgh better than many native english speakers i know. I live in the south of england so many people mess it up. Also its really nice to see just how much they know about the uk... i literally know nothing about the royal family, and most people from most countries think the uk is 1 country.

      more centered in South Kensington. Partly because its a very nice cosmopolitan area and has the famous Lycee Francais school. The prep school is in Hammersith. There has been a French community in London for a few centuries.
