Make a Baby Nuc and make new hives fast! Don will tell you how he does it. A plan is available for the Baby Nuc box at Don's website. www.DixieBeeSupply.com
FBM thanks for the words of support the other week after I too found dead hives due to poisoning. I was looking to get out of bees. (fall 2017). Instead I'm regrouping and expanding my queen rearing. Doing exactly what you are doing. My mentor, a pollinator in New Jersey did the same mating nucs as you. Found some plywood in the neighbors trash and picked it up. I made fifty mating boxes. The farm where many of my hives are located is allowing me to hang the mating boxes on the fence posts. One or two screws through the back on to the post and they will be eye level for me to work. Easy peasy. I'm only hoping I have enough hives to load the boxes.
Hey Don, for what it's worth: we,ve made many thousands of these but with different dimensions. Main point is that we rebated the end of the top bar such that it allows two frames to push together 'till end bars touch making one 'frame' which fits into a regular super. This avoids that gap which can cause a real mess. Depth is dependent on your super choice.
Hey Don, This is my first year raising bees, I love this idea and plan on giving it a try next year. My question is what size hole should I put in the water bottle lid to feed the baby nuc?
Hey Don, Love the vids! Is that box 6-3/4 or 7 inches tall? Another video you said 7 inches but I see on this box you have written 6-3/4. Can you clarify? Thanks again!
Don The Fat Bee Man thankyou for answering my first question buy i have 1 more what's the point of a mini nuc do you let the queen cell hatch and mate then take her and make a 5 frame split or raise the mini nuc into a 5frame nuc and then into a deep?
Josh Reeder ,I'll jump in here. The mini are just the bare minimum to get a queen mated. You don't need to risk much resources to mate a queen. Once mated you can use as you wish. Pull the mated queen and replace with another queen cell. You can sell the queen,re queen a hive,or to make a 5 frame nuc,,add a frame of brood from a couple hives and a couple starter strips and feed sugar syrup. 3-1 and watch them grow. Don explains things better but that is the just of it.😉
When I went to go to dixiebeesupply.com i was warned that someone may be trying to impersonate Don and to not proceed any further. What’s up with that????
Hey don could you make me one and I buy it off of you? I have a small swarm that moved into my fence and I want them safe, and dry. Are you willing to make a custom one for me or one like this one? I’ll pay. Let me know. I’m not very crafty at all
Don I love your howto video's, Keep them coming!
What a great idea thanks for sharing Don.
Thank you for your knowledge Don !

how do you move a mini mating nuc in to that?🧐
Can we start keeping bees in this size hive
No plans on web site
Don where are you from? You sound like my uncle from Menomonee Falls, WI
What would be better a 2 frame nuc or these little mini nucs for mating queens?
dependson how much time you have smaller use less bees to set up

What happens when the bees get big? : )
couple questions. I got the plan but I'm missing a couple mesurements on there. how deep is the frame rest (3/4?) and also how long is the top bar?

You should feed in the corner. The queen doesn't spend much time in the corner
I mean: Wouldn't it be better to feed in the corner? You are the master.
