    Excellent idea, so I have automatically a handle on both sides. Why didn't I think of this myself. Thank you for uploading. Now my boxes will be all Chillhouse style.

    I could tell as soon as I opened the video and saw the joints that it is a practical construction method. This is a great method for making 1 box or 100. By the way, our plywood cost in Michigan is up 252% in the last year.

    Well done Paul. Finally measurements in metrics. Well done, good clean simple instructions for 5 & 2 frame nuc boxes. Next stop painting, plus a vid about what you use them for.

      Thanks Jerra, I think there is plenty of "what i use them for" from much more experienced bee keepers, working on a (how to build a deck) video at the moment, building stuff is kind of where my experience comes in handy, but I'll give it some thought. Thanks Paul

    Looks good. I imagine one could use 2 pieces of 1X lumber on each side in place of plywood if they find it at the right width. I made one with pallet boards on the sides, very similar to this. And I had some old 2Xs that were already painted going to waste so I cut them to the right length for the front and backs of some Nucs. I figured the Bees would be happier with the thicker wood on the ends.

    I made my front and rear panels the same and screwed both from the bottom. No need to make 2 different sizes for that. I also make my top and bottoms the same. Needless to say, I used 1x12 inch pine that I cut for the sides. US keeper here.

    This is how Barnyard Bees make their Boxes... There are
    Hundreds in their Apiary, all
    painted different Colours !
    Check it out... I think if your in a Colder Climate, like here in Scotland, you would have to add more insulation, and, or cluster them together. To give them more protection. 👍

    I like the boxes but would just change the bottom to a screen and make them so i could slide in a 1/4" piece of plasticore or plywood to make it a solid bottom and could easily use the wand and oxalic acid to treat for Varroa mites.

    Great idea using a standard timber size and for keeping it simple.
    But cost wise I just can't work it out to be only $15 for the 5 frame. If the 190x19 is around $10/lm then you're already at $10 for base, front & sides (991mm required)... then add the ply sides cut from a large sheet will cost around $10 (using 19mm).... plus the lid & other small bits and you're around A$25. Or is there something I'm miscalculating?

    • @Chillhouseminifarm
      @Chillhouseminifarm  3 года назад +2

      Hi Darryn, yes you are probably correct but I used 15mm ply which is slightly cheaper and it was also before the governments of the world decided to put us into hyperinflation for materials. I didn't account for the top etc. I wasn't really trying to portray the cheapest version, more so portraying the easiest version. To tell you the truth, I honestly didn't assume it would have many views at all, just realized there was a need for a simplistic version with cutting sizes for everyone with basic tools to produce, price wasn't my concern.

      @@Chillhouseminifarm Cool thanks for replying and yes the design is great.
      I was excited about it being $15 materials but I think at >$25 I'd be more likely to buy a ready made one
