It's not a Sunday morning till I've had a coffee, durrie, bacon n eggs and watched Aussie arvos. Time to go play in the shed for a bit. Luv ya work boys.
Thanks Sloth! hahah i know, its become a bit a tradition hasn't it! cheers mate :)
Loving this channel more than 4wd 24/7. More down to earth and affordable cars and mods 😁
I really hope Dan opens up his own shop one day. Great attention to detail and isn’t afraid to learn new things and admit what he doesn’t know.
Would make a great place to film all the shop episodes 🙌
Wondering where James is haven't seen him for a while. Love listening to Dan full of knowledge and explains things very well. Cheers boys
Building something big, you'll see soon ;)
I’m a very big fan of how well and in-depth old mate was explaining how the mixer and the gas side of it works
Dan seems like an absolute legend, he needs to be in every episode!
Good video blokes always good to see Dan. Eric seems like a really good bloke really like how he is willing to share and teach his skills like Dan said carby tuning is a dying art and good to see someone willing to pass it on to the younger generation top bloke
Have a yarn with Daniel Kistler, tb42t fanatic. He gets 250kw from this motor. A cash injection goes with that of course. Great channel lads, always good content
Getting near that elusive 50k subs. Great stuff lads
Creeping up!!
What are you gonna do for 50 k?
What are you gonna do for 50 k?

I love you guys have mechanical sympathy. I’ve always love making cars work but hate it when you see people who don’t warm a car up. You will reap the rewards long term for that sense.
Forgive the non-car related comment -- but I really loved that transition at 2:41 with the sound of the dyno travelling over the scene cut. It's a small detail, but it really adds to the flow video!
Thanks grace! I'm glad someone picked up on it!! Thank you!! 😊
I love them all but good to see Dan back. I watched some early videos when they where burning wood piles and they almost killed themselves by using petrol as a starter. Right at the end a background voice you can hear says "I told you not to use petrol" which is surely Dan. They don't listen sometimes but they should :). He is very competent. Great hoody by the way and keep making real videos.
youre going to make a good tradesman as you grow Dan. Sensible, calm and willing to listen and learn. Good onya guys.
If it was my Patrol, I would keep it relatively stock - and have modifications that compliments the vehicle which can be quickly reversed/removed if needed. I even like your period correct bullbar (even if it's not pretty). GQs in original conditions are getting rare, and they'll continue to become rare. Making Patrols such as yours appreciate in value. A mate has an original grandpa spec GQ in good condition. He wouldn't even fit a snorkel as he didn't want to cut the fender. He says, very few GQs have virgin fenders, and he wants to keep his as is. Some wise words there I think.
I doubt your mate will take his GQ over a water crossing if he want to look after it. But if he does and needs a snorkel, just ask him to get a 2nd hand fender panel. He'll most likely find many will already have the snorkel cutouts for having a snorkel fitted (or even one that has the snorkel still attached), But if he finds one with no cutouts, then he can cut the 2nd hand panel instead of his original, and just keep his original one stored safe in the shed or garage.
Hel, I agree with all that he said in the vidio, but that engin swap. Please try and keep n NISSAN A NISSAN. I do not go down on my knee and say I am Pat when I know I am Martin. (praying under a secret name).... Not for me.
It's not a Ferrari F40 its just a patrol. They will never be a collectable.
@@smokeynagata647 Oh no you didn't! 😲😜
This is a mint video old mate Eric explains things real well
Great video I had a GQ ute a few years back running on the same system, it went hard on petrol 280-300km a tank.. end up putting a 120 gas tank in, depending how it was driven 400-500 kms a tank. Getting the AF right I was always checking monthly. Great car you notice the difference in power between petrol & gas when towing a trailer
EFI provides more consistency each time and at any given revs, compared to carburettors. Carburettors will require regular tune/adjustments in order to be at peak performance at all times. I have to get the twin carbys on my Datsun 240Z tuned at least once a year to be at their best. EFI is definitely better than Carby. That's why EFI has all but 100% eliminated carbys in motor vehicles in the past 25 years.
Time for efi and turbo on the old tb 💪
Nice great to see someone using a dyno for more than just numbers keep it up love watching
So sweet hope Eric looked after you really good
Good vid, good to see a bloke happy to pass on info too.
Great video guys. Its good to see content that isn't all about show pony mega buck additions and force fed advertising. refreshing.
Keep the patrol vids coming boys! I’m doing mine side by side with you guys
As always, Dan your videos are great. Really enjoy it. Greetings from Auckland
Just sold my hzj75 bc of COVID tax but don’t worry fellas I’ll still watch ya vids brothers
Have a mate with a gq tb42 carby had it replaced with a rebuilt one and tuned, runs like a treat and has never had a issue since.
In USA waiting on my Aussie Arvos t-shirt thanks guys
Can tell when he started to explain the dyno sheets he knew what he's talking about.
Old school knowledge 👌, keep your ears open as he'll pass on knowledge without realising.
4jj1 conversion in the GQ would be the bees knees.
Or just a whole replace of vehicle
@@Steve211Ucdhihifvshi uppa 4j motors
Kw is NOT the thing that makes a car move, it's torque that does the work. I'd take NM over KW any day of the week and twice on Sunday. The motor in your Commodore looks sweet as!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Almost looks like a 4,1 that we had in South Africa. Built one way back when with 2,02 intake & 1,61 exhaust valves had a 407 cast crank, polished rods 350 flat top pistons and a custom ground cam with a 30 Webber carby. Lit up the tires in 3rd on the 68 Holden Special I had😁
Another great vid lads!
I might have to go and see goody. Got an ancient Rodeo 4x4 and a Gemini with carburettor issues.
awesome, always enjoy Dan content
Thanks Brett!
The main benefit of efi in my opinion is the intake manifolds, with a port injection manifold you can can have much longer and more evenly shaped intake runners, and in turn more torque.
Unfortunately, finding ANYONE who still knows about carbies is damn near impossible now. Even in the day, your average mechanic would just rebuild them with a kit. Only a few old fellas still in the game. Great video.
Yup, I have the tb42 maverick swb....I’ve gone to the extent of installing a petronix igniter kit and a new carby (NIKKI). Took the gas out 4 years ago.....just recent it’s been at my local guy here in Adelaide because him and his oldman that’s all they do is carbys...
I wouldn’t just take it to a domesticflashy type place, sometimes its the old guy in the shed is the one who knows best
Great to see another good video well done guys really enjoying your content 👍
Its only a matter of time until Head and Shoulders steals Dan for their next add campaign
Eric is a guru
Great video guys. Good to see an old school mechanic in action. And good to see Dan learning and adding to his skill set.
Can't wait to see the LS swap ;)
Awesome video, lads.
Nice job good viewing of another video. Fae enjoyable then some of the other big media productions
Another crackin video boys
Awesome video boys. Really well explained, I learned a lot.
Power is a relative thing. I always had more power on my Speedwell dragster with the same motor if I pegged more cards onto the frame that flapped on the spokes. Straight pipe it & it will sound plenty powerful.
Yoo weekly ritual
😂 thats it 👌
your right i got a mk1 rs2000 worked motor built to run twin 45s my mate Colin from twin cams sets my webers up old school legends
7:42 you have to road tune carbies if you change altitude (unless there is a dyno at the top of a mountain.
If you have individual throttle bodies you still have to road tune constant throttle cruising to eliminate rev hunting
LS might chew fuel but it will sound great and go even better.
Itl'l be interesting to see the actual figures between carby and efi. maybe if there's a fan near you guys that wants to do the conversion you can do it for them? maybe a carby RB30 to efi and atb42 to efi to see the difference on different engines?
Waiting to see the Nav on the dyno.
Before and after video on injector cleaner fuel additives and/or upper intake cleaner that you spray into the throttle body or a vacuum line?
I used both on my challenger and holy hell the difference......it is unbelievable. Near undriveable to enjoyable to drive.
good gearing does a lot for driving feel
My gq could use a day with you guys and Eric
Time for fte 30+ injectors and 24j Ufi spooly boi
You need to take the patrol the Skid Factory to change it to efi and a cheeky turbo
Try using premium fuel better fuel economy and better up and running, had mine gq for 20 years, no problems at all
I get rid of autochokes and only run manual cable chokes, does away with all the pain of cold starts
Cool story bro
mighty mighty horses!
So 55kw+59kw=114kw ya did well!
Minty bois love your vids ay
Thanks Caleb!
I always thought that ignition advance needs to be way higher on gas than on petrol. That was why most carby conversions to gas ran like sh!t on petrol - advance was set for gas. For good dual operation, advance needs to be set for petrol and then gas will run a bit worse which was OK back in the day when gas was dirt cheap. If that were my GQ, the gas would get heaved to the tip - dodgy gas conversions are time bombs, as unfortunately many, many people have found out. Petrol is cheap, burns recovery is not.
Hey man, the timing is general higher on gas than petrol however being that this motor doesn’t have particularly high compression they were both peaking at very similar advance.
This gas system is actually quite a good install compared to some I’ve seen and I’ve now inspected everything and fixed any minor issues.
I used to think gas was only for bbqs myself but this goes pretty well on it so for now it’s staying 👍
I'm assuming he checked the dwell before changing the timing? That's most likely why it was so far out. This guy's probably forgotten more than I've learnt tho 😄, cheers boys
It's been 25 years since I've thought about dwell angle on my old HQ.
Hey mate forgot to mention this has been changed to electronic ignition at some point 👍
@@dantheman7647 Ah no worries 👍
"You're going to get shot"
"No!"
I think the answer you were looking for was "yes"
63kW at the wheels is around 80 - 90kW at the flywheel, so good guess I suppose.
love this thing, more of the GQ please, i just rebuilt my carby and removed the gas system gas is not good for carby's ruins them, this thing needs electronic ignition, and i disagree with you on the barra swap or ls1 more expensive than you think .. you do a few minor things to the tb and turbo it.. much better and cheaper the tb is bulletproof
Can 2nd the electronic ignition I had a petronix hall effect in my tb42 carby and it helped it immensely the old girl loved it
Mate, love your video - I've for the same car funnily enough 👌😎
Good question for you that would help me out.
Since the Dyno tune, what would be your maximum safe limit for EGT on petrol? If you know what that is, it would help me out a lot.
Mine once had gas installed but has since been removed, maybe the valves in my engine have been replaced with higher temp ones early in the 90s who knows but its easily surviving 650-670 Deg just in for short moments but it doesn't look safe to do and it's got to be too hot.
I know where to take mine for a decent carby tune up and Dyno work, thanks. Mine has a 6 way Aquatune hydrogen and water injection fuel system (currently not operating) but will be soon. Maybe you are interested to look them up for your rig.
Better economy and more power.
Hey Dan, whered you learn all your knowledge in regards to cars and mechanics?
Best advice I can give you is listen to every one and decide who you want to believe. 👍
What wheel setup is on the old bus? Keep the good content up
Man the tb42e sooo much better!!!!
I’ve owned both carby and efi patrols.
What happened to James and his black GQ Ute
The one with chicken mud flaps
Dans the sort of dude to try and put a supercharger from an l67 on the engine
I don’t even know what an Eaton m90 is 😉
@@dantheman7647 That was a test and a great answer. I can practically smell the thumbnail.
Project Mang
Hey Dan where did you buy your alloy wheels from cos they look shmik??
Hey man,
Hit up Nathan at treadworx in Lilydale
Cheers I’m happy as with them
Wow I thought they had more than that stock 😅.. Hope my hi comp twin carb cammed tb42 has a bit more Pep when rebuilt.. still yet to find a good tuner in Nsw may have to go for a drive See Eric 👌
Tuners here want $1600 need the car for 1 week 🤦♂️
should put and old school v8 in it
Hey dan what sort of range do you get with the Tb42 off road? Trying to work what the fuel use would be in the high country?
Thx for sharing great information 👍
My nissan patrol GQ manual 4.2 petrol also carburettor and I have for more then 7 years ... I did service for the carburettor twice... and always service in time but I found my GQ petrol slow up heel if someone drive slow in front of me it will be problem for me but if I accelerate more before the up heel no problem for 80 or 100 km no is that normal for nissan patrol up heel ?
When I feel up with 95 or 98 petrol I have more power qhen driven more then the 91 .
I took it for someone in sydney couple years ago for Dino but he said it don't need just he removed the carburettor and send it for service.
I drove my GQ patrol in full tank around 430 km as local drive and highway with speed limit and I've never been off rod also the old 1st owner as well, so 430km in full tank its good or its should drive more kms ?
Everything in my GQ are standard nothing been updated.
Do you recommend good mechanic for nissan patrol in Sydney thank you 😊
What’s the difference between gasoline and petrol? I’ve tried to do some research and all I come up with is that they are the same thing?
Hey Dan, what timing did you get peak power at?
Cheers!
Hey man static is at 10 degrees, but best check your total before setting it and depending on compression and fuel quality this will change 👍👍
Dan chuck a Barra on her and vlog it
You need a better lpg mixer with no restrictions to air flow. I'm making better numbers stock on petrol and lpg. Your problem are the air flow. That engine have short valves and runners if you put someting more to restrict the few flow that engine loose and loose....
Electronic ignition?
Yeah man 👍
AFR ratios is it?
Yes it stands for air fuel ratio ratios and no I didn’t say it wrong 😂😂
It’s a powerhouse 😂
Would you ever consider switching to a barra? 😂🤘
LESHH go
What afr did you tune the lpg to?
I’m guessing more power then my td haha
wow. my carby l28 pushes more than a tb42. wow
No patrol should have been put on lpg shit in the first place your taking out the main tank and that gives less fuel capacity for when your in the outback all patrols need them removed and replaced with a longrange main tank
Someone needs a Covid Haircut !
Almost every tb42 ive ever driven has been swapped to efi because the carbys are just shithouse for offroad even when perfect. Also gas is definitely getting hard to find theres no places that have lpg in a 100km radius of me i had to sell my lpg falcon because of that
Just plug her up to your natural gas, 10th the price
@@janeblogs324 not sure if you could do that but if you could make that work would honestly be amazing and so cheap to run. I had natural gas at my old house and i loved it ran the whole house almost
Put a Barra in it
Carby tuning is 110% a dying art.
2010 nissan micra 1.5l 75kw and 140nm torque Bahahahahahaha.
Nissan patrol.... 65 at best after spending money to tune it.
😂 32 years of automotive advancement will do that hey, but if you believe factory specs you have no right to call others an idiot😉
🇦🇺👍🍺
First
For anyone that owns one thinking oh mines way faster etc. Your an idiot, they are one of the slowest cars on the road. 🐌 hahaha may as well have 0kw.
sh*t do you wanna justify why you put your car on a dyno one more time?
