      note for the god thing
if we are talking about the GOD (Jehova) is assumed he is Akasha itself.
The other gods, greek, egyptians, etc; exist in every universe except for God. This assumptions stems from one character related to him. Solomon (the last king of Israel, david's son) had a noble phantasm that worked as ''giving back the miraccle God gave me''' making that EVERYTHING relating to him disapears since it makes humanity no need him anymore, since they already learn what he wanted to teach.
this makes solomon ascend over the throne of heroes (the place were the spirits are registered to be able to be summoned) thus making it imposible to summon him again. This not only afected the solomon that activated, BUT IT AFFECTED EVERY SOLOMON IN THE MULTIVERSE. meaning that a miracle of God has the ability to affect the multiverse .
there is also the thing that the first True magic user, the one who REALLy begun the age of man..is Jesus
altough he doesnt do anythiing about the vampires, that kills humans, so he is kinda a dick sometimes

"The simplest analogy of the world system in Fate universe is imagine that the universe is running on PC OS, now Akasha is something like the BIOS or system32 of the universe and Counter Force (aka Servants) is like the firewall that protects the BIOS from being hacked or tampered.
This analogy works as well to explain why mages use magic crests to pass down their magic to their descendant, for example the biggest difference between normal humans with mages is that mages have extra biological nerves called Magic Circuit. Now magic circuit works exactly like PC in sense that its the motherboard of mages, in a sense that mages write the spell (aka the programming code) onto their magic circuit so to activate their spell all they have to do is to run mana (or electricity in PC terms) through their magic circuit. Now following this logic mages pass down their spells by grafting their Magic Circuit (that already have their spells coded in it) after a lifetime of training and learning into their descendant body, just think of it as passing down USB filled with lifetime of knowledge from generation to generation. And each generation adds something to their family Magic Crest which is why the more ancient one family is the stronger their magic is. And because Magic Circuit is a real organ, passing it down is literally the same as donating your organ, which means there is a high risk of rejection if it's done to someone outside of your bloodline. Which is why all mages in Fate universe are more selfish than mages in Harry Potter universe, because ultimately they can only rely on their own family magecraft and each family has their own unique trait and specialize only in a single type of magecraft.
The magic and world system in Fate universe is well fleshed out and is built on rock hard logic thats makes much more sense than the magic in Potterverse"
"And about the technical difference between the term Magecraft and True Magic in Fate universe, is that ANYTHING that can also be done by science or real life tools is basically Magecraft.
shooting fireball = flamethrower so it's a magecraft
making big explosion = bomb so it's a magecraft
      flying = jetpack so it's a magecraft
time travel = we don't have time machine yet so it's True Magic
making something out of nothing = violates thermodynamic law so it's True Magic
and for a couple of thousand years it's already been agreed that there are 7 True Magic (2 of my examples above are also part of those 7), so whenever you see some mage talking on screen about "3rd Magic" or something they are referring to the 3rd type of True Magic among all 7. And because the only difference between magecraft and TM is whether or not current science can replicate it it follows suit that eventually with scientific progression True Magic will degrade into Magecraft."

The Grail was won in some timelines.
In the Fate/Grand Order timeline, the 2004 Holy Grail War ended up being the first and only Holy Grail War held in Fuyuki (in this timeline). The winners were Marisbury Animusphere and his Caster Servant Solomon, who used the Greater Grail to fulfill their desires after having defeated all the other Masters and Servants. Unfortunately before Solomon could become human, he has a vision that told him the world was in trouble. So he had Marisbury Animusphere create Chaldea, which is where the protagonist works in Fate/Grand Order.

Hakuno won the Moon Cell Holy Grail War
Technically Kiritsugu won the 4th one and Shirou the 5th one.. it's just that the corrupted grail is useless for them.
Also I don't think that HGW will ever gave birth to new magician. The theory is sound and it is possible to gave birth to new magic via the path opened by throne of heroes but the epithet about magic stated that the fifth is also the final magic. Given that we already know the nature of 2nd, 3rd and 4th magic and 1st magic is the first ever to be discovered.. we can say safely that unless 5th magic is some time travel ability then it's impossible for new magic to appear from any other path that are still open.
To put it simply since 5th magic is called the final magic and it already exist then 6th magic cannot be discovered since it went against the epithet EXCEPT if it's nature is unrestricted time travel cuz it opens up scenario where 5th magic is discovered in the distant future but it's user time traveled say to the present. That way technically the 5th exist in present day before it got discovered.

In Nasuverse there's 2 version of fiction heroes
one that literally just fiction like Nemo
and another who actually exist as real life happening that nobody knows, got re-written as fiction by a mage and grow popular enough to be a heroic spirit, this is Fran.
There's also 3rd one where a real life heroes got twisted by popular fiction but the principal is exactly the same as the 2nd type only that there's history book to counterbalance the fictional part.... which actually is majority of the servant now that I think bout it.
Anyway Fran backstory is that a mage called Victor a mage wanted to create primodial human - Adam and Eve - as his research theme (to reach Akasha obviously) however given the complexities of his research he decided to built Eve first and have her gave birth to Adam (technically the first son of the first woman is the first man) Anyway the story goes Victor feels like his Eve is failure, tries to kills her, failed, she got angry, yadayadayada she wanted to exact revenge at victor, pursue him till Artic where he commit suicide.
Point is someone told this story to Mary Sheley and she decided to write "Frankenstein" based on this story. The result is that she got tweaked by the story cursing her with reduced intellect as curse of the fiction. I mean that's why she's known as Frankenstein and not Eve which is the name given to her by Victor.

To be fair, while still staying spoiler free; winning the Grail War grants a Wish to the winner. the Mages will typically use their wish to reach the Root of Akasha as the video said. The Servant who wins also gets to make a wish, and each Servant has a wish desire based on their personal mythology and motivations. Several of the wars have ended with wishes being granted in some form or another. Many of the ones happening in the 'alternate' and 'future' are ones that have definitive results in that regard.

  • @spheromancer_
    @spheromancer_ Год назад +31

Since Gigguk only really tried to talk about the timeline, I'll try to make things clearer.
Basically in the Nasuverse there are 4 main entries: Tsukihime, Fate/Stay Night, Kara no Koukai and Witch on the Holy Night.
Each of those can be the first one you check out as they're all pretty independant.
Kara no Kyoukai is a book series that got adapted into great Ufotable movies.
Witch on the Holy Night is a visual novel that will be adapted into Ufotable movie(s) soon.
Tsukihime is a visual novel (with 4 different story branches) that was adapted into an horrible anime, and into a manga that is the perfect adaptation of the 1st route (there is no manga for the other routes). It has 2 sequels: A visual novel and a fighting game.
(Tsukihime also got a recent remake)
Then there's Fate, which is where it gets messy.
It started as an eroge visual novel (later releases replaced the hentai scenes with other safe ones). It has 3 different story branches called Fate, Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven's Feel (that are meant to be read in that order). There's also Fate/Hollow ataraxia (a sequel).
It first got a bad anime of the first route (Fate) by studio Deen. Years later Ufotable made an anime for Unlimited Blade Works and movies for Heaven's Feel.
The only things that are close to the main Fate timeline are Fate/Zero (a prequel) and Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files/Adventures (a spin-off starring a Fate/Zero character).
Every other Fate/ thing is a spin-off that takes place in a completely different universe that split off from the main very early in the timeline like you see in this video.
They're all also written by other people.
P.S: Magic is explored a lot in Witch on the Holy Night, which you can just buy for the PS4 or switch.

So instead of giving your (probably biased) opinion, let people decide if it's bad in their eyes or not.

    - Servants don't necessarily have to be historically accurate. Their lore can change on a whim and the many factors that contribute to that change are numerous (one of those factors is pop culture), just like actual history.
    - the Nasuverse includes a wide variety of other stories that aren't limited to Fate....even though there are characters from that universe that appear in other works, and sometimes they have relatives who are from other universes.

About Illegal Servants: Basically the Holy Grail had many limitation put there by an extremely powerful mage that helped to create the system to keep the fight fair (only heroes of history, no Gods, no Monsters, no Anti-Heroes, only member of the Assassin Clan can be summoned as Assassin), so when the Ainzbern tried to summon the Angra Maiyuu (The Zoroastrian god of Darkness and Evil) because they were tired of losing, the Grail went "well i cannot summon a God, let me check history" and found a normal guy who was worshipped as Angra Mainyuu by the population of a village and summoned him, giving him basically nerfed version of what the actual God would have.
When he was killed, his soul went back into the Grail (since he was a normal human, he wasn't recorded in the Throne of Heroes aka a huge collection of all the heroes that lived/live/will live throught human history and so he remained in the Grail), waiting to be birthed once more and overwriting many of the limitation.
Angra Maiyuu is the weakest servant that they could have summoned, i stutter to think what someone like Kiara Sesshoin (a woman who reached Enlightenment and became one with the universe and wants to force the whole universe to love her unconditionally like a mother would) or a Tamamo Koyanskaya (a Nature Spirit born from the anguish and pain of all the creature that died persecuted by humanity as a whole) could have done to the Grail

I know I am 5 months late but as a guy who is both 40k and Fate fan for many years I wanted to give my own advise.
Fate is actually not that complicated to understand, it just has massive lore with no direct connection between itself like for example 40k where you know where Horus Heresy ,Tyranic Wars and War in Heaven all fits.
My advise if you really want to get into this franchise: read FSN visual novel. It is the best starting point and it shows why Fate is really popular - very interesting characters with lore rich universe and many, many, many battles that hold you at the edge. But take into account that entire VN is longer than Lord of the Rings trilogy.
If you are not into reading that much then anime is your next best bet, and as a veteran of the franchise this is how you should watch it to get 100% enjoyment:
    Fate 2006 Fate route anime -> 2014 UBW anime -> 2019 HF movies -> 2012 Fate/Zero anime.
After that you would pretty much cover the entire VN and prequel with it. I know that some (including Gigguk) woudl say to skip 2006 anime but in all honesty that would be a mistake. Now I know it was first attempt and not the best but it follow 90% of Fate route which is not animated outside it, the music is phenomenal and it is route of Saber where her character is explored and developed. And she is singlehandedly face of the franchise and to this day most popular character, so skipping her story is something I would not ever recommend giving her impact on the franchise.
After that you can pretty much watch any other media as they do not connect to one another. With the exception of Carnival Phantasm, you really need to either read Tsukihime VN or Manga and to watch KnK movie series in order to enjoy it fully.

The technical definition given by Nasu is that magecraft can replicate any feat that humanity can with all of its efforts and knowledge, and magic can go beyond that. However this definition is not consistently applied through the series because AFAIK we can't grow artificial humans with the strength of 40 men but that's absolutely a thing you can do in Fate with magecraft. Provided your last name is Einzbern, of course.
The definition that I find applies consistently is that magecraft broadly obeys the laws of physics (not like all of them but more than not and we can assume that the broken laws are artistic license) but acts as a shortcut. A good analogy is if you wanted a light a candle across the room. You could walk over there, take out a lighter, turn it on, and then light the candle. But you could also use magecraft to expend the equivalent amount of (magical) energy to spontaneously manifest fire at the tip of the candle. If you had the right type of magic (since each type of magic has certain things it can and can't do) you could light the candle without expending that energy or at least with expending less than would be physically possible otherwise even with perfect efficiency.

Here to add more info (to my understanding)
While the original game did have porn, it’s was hilariously cringey and only added to increase sales
Gilgamesh would not be a Tory, he would call the Tories mongrels, destroy Buckingham, and then proclaim himself king
(He’s actually kind of cool once you meet him though)
Angry mango is canonically the weakest servant in the franchise being pretty much powerless against spectral beings (like servants) despite this he’s actually like a top character in the verse when it comes to killing humans
The mana transfer joke comes from the fact that servants can quickly gain mana via a mana transfer from a human, and this comes in the form of bodily liquids, like blood, or “yogurt”, this is the excuse for the H scenes in the original
Fate grand order basically has you going back in time since human history was destroyed by one of king Solomons demons since he got sad by humans killing each other, he does this by causing holy grails to pop up in places their not supposed to resulting in bad things happening like a war between Queen Med b of Irish legend and Thomas Edison’s robot army in 19th century America
Honestly highly recommend one of my favorites of all time

There's a lot of recurring elements (see the various Links versus the various Sabers, or Extra Rin), but ultimately most instalments are pretty self contained and not meant to be fit into a singular timeline. (Not like that has ever stopped anyone.) The way to get into it is to just pick one of them and go from there, unless you play the game with the time loop, which is a direct sequel.

@@shark20069Depending on which saber (seeing it is a class name, not a servant’s true name) you're referring to. I am assuming Artoria in here. Base Artoria could defeat goku, if and only if goku means harms to the planet/mankind in fate verse. Seeing Excalibur was originally forged as a weapon to protect the planet.
It is considered a divine and conceptual construct. Take into consideration, that Excalibur have thirteen seals. If all are unsealed, the true power of Excalibur can be unleashed. How powerful it is? Well, it managed to take down Sefar (a Complex Multiuniversal threat, which dwarves anything in DB verse so far).
Also, the planet in Fate is far far different than DB. It has protective measures that suppress servants like Gaia (The will of the planet itself) and Alaya (The collective consciousness of humanity) which weakens servants like Artoria. Unlike DB, where the planets don't have a will of their own hence they're easier to destroy.
If we took both goku and Artoria at their full power, without interferences from the Counter Force, Artoria solos DB verse let alone Goku. Don'tmind the guy above me, he probably hasn't read and played the games/novels.

I like it because he tells us plot twists sometimes that make the first experience less confusing and more intense (I think it's called Hitchcock's bomb or something? Something about if you know there is a bomb under the table you will feel tense due to people not knowing about the bomb, so you are waiting for it to explode)

in case anyone is actually confused by Gigguk's dogwater explanation here: just start with the Stay Night and Hollow Ataraxia visual novels, they make everything super clear and easy to understand and serve as a great base for all the spinoffs, the whole "Fate is so complicated" meme started cuz people just refused to start the franchise at the starting point lol

    • @Mercure250
      @Mercure250 Год назад +20

See, that's the whole problem. There are people who do not care for visual novels, for some reason or another. And when we tell those people "Just start with the visual novel" when they specifically ask where to start the ANIME, that's not very welcoming. I happen to be one of those people, and you can be absolutely certain I would have never gotten into this franchise if someone just told me "Start with the VN".
And the whole confusion specifically comes from the fact people can't agree on where to start watching the anime adaptations. Some recommend UBW, some recommend Zero, some, rarer, might even recommend Deen (which is actually where I started).
The whole mistake of the fandom, I think, is that every fan will have their single "correct" answer, and newcomers need to figure out who's right, which I believe is what created the whole meme. But the reality is, everyone is different, everyone has different preferences and tastes when it comes to entertainment. Not every story of how someone got into the franchise is going to be the same. And that's okay. We should embrace that.
I think we could just take the 3-4 options people recommend the most (which are UBW, Zero, the visual novel, and yes, I'm gonna include Deen, even though it might not be wise of me), and just say something like "Look, if you're fine with VNs, start with the VN, but if you're not, then here are the options, and their upsides and downsides". I think we also sometimes assume the newcomers are gonna be too dumb to be able to judge a few different options, but I'm convinced there are ways to do it simply. At the very least, it's definitely better than saying "Just start wherever", leaving the newcomer with too many options, or battling it out like "This is THE correct way to do this!!!" "No, THIS is the correct way!!!", leaving the newcomer to figure out who's right.
...With all that being said, I think we can all agree Garnt's video is NOT a good introduction.

@@Mercure250 I would disagree with you saying that it is unwise to have someone start with DEEN Fate (as long as it's the Fate route adaptation and not the UBW movie), it's the first route and it sets up the lore and world building for the other two routes, you'd be way less confused going into the other two routes by watching it first if you're anime only.
Just cause it's a 2006 anime with average animation doesn't mean it's bad.

(Also, yes, by "Deen", I meant the adaptation of the Fate route, not the Deen adaptation of UBW, there's basically no reason to recommend this one since the UFOtable version exists lol)

As some people here have mentioned, Gigguk isn't really the best person to rely on for Fate/Type Moon stuff. Like at all, imo. It's probably better to actually watch stuff from people who actually know a lot more about Fate than him. In fact, Tsiah IV has made a Fate timeline flowchart recently, and while I haven't watched it yet, I have a feeling that it's a lot more better than this. (EDIT: watched it, it's just a rundown + short explanations on an official timeline flowchart that just came out recently. It's good enough for what it is, and I also recommend watching some of his lore videos as well!)
Also, as someone has mentioned, Fate/Grand Order usually has explanations on a bunch of the concepts of the universe, so that people starting off with FGO don't have to go through a whole bunch of stuff except the bare minimum when playing it.
TV Tropes also has an Analysis page on the things relating to the Type Moon universe that I consider a lot better for basic knowledge than the Type Moon Wiki on Fandom, which just straight up sucks except for the bare minimum.
I'm fine with some people asking me for questions about Fate here, by the way. I don't know everything, but I'll try to explain stuff. This universe and its timelines are in the same case with KH for me: it's not that hard to understand!

You kept asking why nobody got the Holy Grail, and while I'm about the furthest thing from a Fate expert I _think_ I've picked up enough bits and pieces through Internet Osmosis over the years to answer that.
The Holy Grail is basically a magical capacitor. It's job is to build up a magic charge for the winner of the Holy Grail War to use to do something crazy, like punch a hole to Akasha. It _gathers_ this charge from the magic/life force of the Servants that die during the Holy Grail War. And like a capacitor, if it goes too long without discharging it'll slowly bleed the charge it has until it can't discharge.
So the reason nobody stole it in between Holy Grail Wars is because it wouldn't be charged and they wouldn't have a way to charge it. And since Gigguk mentioned that they "ran out of time" in one of the Holy Grail Wars, I'm assuming they took too long for someone to win that it didn't hold enough of a charge for the remaining Servants to top it off, and since one of the Holy Grail Wars specifically had _everyone_ die, I'm assuming that the reason nobody's won it is just down to none of the attempts finishing within the available time frame with a survivor to _use_ the Holy Grail.
But again, this is just me cludging together things from Gigguk's video and bits gained through Internet Osmosis.

Heck....it probably cant even GET too the Root so all those deaths are fore nothing.

Uhh, IIRC It's kinda not true? In fate stay night, it's said that since no wish was made on 4th war, meant the recharge time between wars was shortened. It took like 10 years between that and 5th war.
      For context,
      First war was in 1810
      Second in 1860
      Third in 1939
      Fourth in 1994
      Fifth in 2004

    3. Power to materialize soul (the reason Holy Grail can summon a spirit of heroes)
