The Tanker Who Avenged Her Husband

- Maria Oktyabrskaya, legendary tanker of the Soviet Union. After her husband was lost in battle, Maria sold her possessions to pay for a tank and drove to the front line to avenge him. We'd like to thank @thetankmuseum for supplying us with the T-34 footage at the end of this video.

Some trivia:
1. Apart from some inevitable gender bias, Maria was rejected from training due to her age: she was already over 30 years and thus deemed unfit for combat at first
2. During the combat near Novoe Selo she stayed in the damaged tank for two days driving enemies off with the machine gun, despite of being injured.
3. In her last combat she reportedly flattened 3 machinegun nests with up to 20 Germans
4. Although Maria died due to combat injuries and her tank was destroyed shortly after, the crew named their new tanks "combat girlfriend" again and again as a remembrance to "mama", as they called Maria. Last "combat girlfriend" ended up in Königsberg.
Nice info comrade

Why didn't battlefield 5 display women such as her with such honor? Instead they opted for the politically correct route
Didn't battle field five just throw random women in to history ? I'm not sexest but historically battle field five is fickle , for instance the random lady with a robotic arm killing people with a board .there just weren't That many women in an active combat role . But yes you are right they should have put this story In battle field five and maybe then it wouldn't have such bad reviews.
I haven't played the game but from what I've seen from the trailers, historical accuracy is not their top priority. The insertion of fictional characters is just one indicator of this. However, I do find it strange that most game companies won't include actual women combatants where they really served. Is there some policy against it now? The first Call of Duty did it perfectly by allowing you to play as a unique character who was a Russian sniper and woman. Why haven't they done that since? Also I wish that COD would focus on other campaigns again instead of just the Americans. They used to do it all the time, but now it seems the list of represented factions in WW2 games has been narrowed once again to America and the USSR.
@@matthewlee8667 because people cant handle seeing a swastika.
@@matthewlee8667 I agree with you that they should show more real life women that fought in the wars . And the sniper your talking about is referred to as lady death. about focusing on only America and the USSR I think they should focus on making the campaigns longer and a little more in depth then they are . Plus if they added in axis campaigns you'd only be able to fight the first few years of the war because it's difficult for game companys to implacate a level in which you loose .
I played battlefield 5. It is fiction, that's true, but the game isn't focused on ww2 in a sense of realism, it's a battlefield game, it has never been realistic. And also, you can pick whether or now you want to play a woman in the multiplayer. It's really just another run and gun game. Battlefield has always been gameplay centered.

Ok.
wwii in a nutshell
Well there were several versions of the T-34 (76.2mm, 85mm both with several versions) and the Soviets also had KV-1
s IS-2's, SU-76/85 tank destroyers and germans used mostly panzer 3's and 4's and the Panthers

@@jacobwilson1292 the model actually switched between scenes, it was mostly the T-34-76 1943 model (the one with the hexagonal turret) but some scenes show a T-34-76 1941 (the one with the curved turret), and then a T-34-57 (T-34 1941 but with a 57mm)

Many of us, including me, are doubtful when you mention women in war.
I'm ww2, the Russian 588th night bomber regiment included only female crews, who flew with outdated canvas-made scouting planes from 1920s.
Despite being taken as a joke by their male comrades, they've pulled off amazing and courageous stuns against the Germans, flying over 23000 runs over their positions and dropping some 3 or 4 thousand tonnes of bombs over German positions.
They had a very cheeky tactic, their raids would happen at night, flying high over the Germans, as they'd turn off their engines and go silent. All you could hear before the bombing was a whooshing sound, as if someone is waving a broomstick. Because of that, the Germans named them Night Witches, and they've become such a menace that whoever shot their plane down would get an Iron Cross.
They counted 40 crews at their largest number, and about half never returned.
Oh, and they had no parachutes in the plane. If the plane goes down, they'd go down too.
In history, there were quite some women who proved to be more resourceful and daring than their male counterparts. Many of them driven by the sheer will to prove the doubters wrong. There are quite some other examples and stories in the same war, and many others troughout the history where women play big roles in warfare, and often outperforming other men.
So yeah, I mean, I would still likely look down in doubt at female soldiers today, but that is what often drives them to cause some real havoc when the shit hits the fan.
And their squadron flew the PO-2 lol. It takes guts to fly something that flimsy against the enemy.
@@josiahstankus4193 have you ever heard a term "specialization"? They were given those planes not because those were crappy and expendable, but because that plane fitted the most for a harassment night bombing task (and, as it was a crop duster, pilots already had a basic training). They were not meant to actually hit a target or engage any enemy, they were supposed to hit and run stealthy with making as much damage as they can, exhausting enemy soldiers with sleepless stressful nights. There was a female fighter regiment (586) as well, and they used proper planes for their task (Yak-1).

This is greatest masterpieces Yarn hub, this is first time I watch a lady driving a tank into war against Germany well done!👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤
I love the stories you guys put out but I spotted a discrepancy in the video, during the first battle scene The Fighting Girl Friend is observed firing at what appears to be a Tiger H1 Pre Production variant which is accurate seeing as the year is 1943 and the cupola is the tall box variant instead of the production dome variant, but Her tank is a T-34-57 of the 1942-1943 Variant, you can tell by the “Micky Mouse” Turret cheeks and the long barreled gun, this variant of the T-34 even with the high velocity 57mm canon was not reported to be able to shot through a tigers armor at that distance as the shells penetration varies around 100m of Steel and the Tigers 100mm Frontal plate was observed to be angled making it harder to penetrate, so all though the animation and the scene was really cool it was a little inaccurate but everything else seemed well thought out and well executed, keep up the great work.
I looked at the very end and when it was showing the video of the IRL T-34 I was like "Hmm, that turret is way too big and rounded for the original model, or the 57............that's a T-34-85!"
Last time I was this early, Operation Barbarossa wasn't a failure...
