Now just talking about Memento Mori. It really scared my soul out of me at first because it's such a powerful, but scary fact to accept: you're gonna die. Everyone of us know deep down this is true, but we usually try so hard not to think about it, or even to deny it, that it was really a journary to get in touch and accept this fact. Nevertheless, once you do accept and let this determine how you do things, what you put your time, attention and prensence on, how you talk to people and, most importantly, what you do when there's nobody to see it's really life-changing.
I totally agree with that phrase on the coin. That is how I try to live everyday. What I do disagree with is the simplistic "life is short". I tend to think the opposite. Life is long. It's hard to think consciously about death, even if you're older. A way i prefer is to ask myself "if someone appeared out of nowhere and pointed a gun at my face, asking to justify for him not to press the trigger, would i be able to give a convincing argument?". 99.9999% of us live totally pointless lifes of permanent distractions. Sadly, so am i.
Every morning when I awake, I purposely think, "Is already a perfect day." I can bet that most of us seldom think about the fact that every new morning is a "perfect gift", and that the rest of the day is free and unknown. While reading one of my books, for the first time again, a passage caught my attention, and I decided to post that selection which is something different than the usual themes concerning fear, despair, violence and worries. "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; "THEY ARE NEW EVERY MORNING; great is thy faithfulness." Lamentation 3: 22-23 P. S. I don't profess a religion. I dont get it. Yes i should cherrish every day as it was the last, but what about discipline? Doing things that you dont want to do but are necessary? I get a feeling of hedonism when thinking about waking up and doing just things i want to do. What about tidy the room or do the dishes or get groceries. What about thinking a bit in the future to not waste all money on useless things and get work done that you dont want to do? Imagine you are actually so lucky and wake up tomorrow and take your bonus day to do tasks you dont actually want to do but they invest in your future (which is maybe not even given because perhaps you dont even wake up tomorrow) I really dont get it, can someone explain it to me please?
somehow this gives me more anxiety. I've come to realize that I will die some day, and it freaks me out. It scare me, life doesn't make sense to me, I have trouble doing anything and deciding what makes me happy. I feel sad about this fact, i'm 23 and I feel like i've wasted it by being depressed and miserable. God, everything I do and think it always followed by "we 're all gonna die, then what?" The eternalness of death scares me to my core.
How does one deal with the thoughts of impulsivity or forgetting about the consequences of one's actions today when one will actually still live tomorrow? I'm finding it difficult to apply memento mori when one has to deal with people especially, since people and connections can still matter yrs in the future. Memento mori seems to me for short-term goals, or thinking in terms of scarcity. Although I do realize it's a matter of prioritization, do what one can do for a long-term goal if that's what matters to someone, enjoy the process and all that.
Also, not missing the opportunity to say “I love you”, or “you know, you are hurting me”. It gives you a new day to make different choices for yourself. Starting a lifestyle. Engaging in new hobbies. Writing that book you always wanted. Or leaving the abusive relationship behind. I discovered Ryan when I was absolutely lost as to what I wanted after the surprise fail of a relationship. He gave me the gift of finding myself worth without external judgement. Or altering my behavior to appease others. Every day is a new day to improve. Even one thing about myself by 1%. Even if I fail, I tried.
I'd love to get a coin that on one side says memento mori, and on the reverse memento vivere (which, and i probably have it wrong, i take as Remember To Live)... they're the two ohrases I'd ever consider getting tattooed... if i was the inking type 😅
"This is our big mistake: think we look forward toward to death. Most of death is already gone. Whatever time has passed is owned by death. We die every day. Seneca"
I carry a coin that is a morgan silver dollar that was engraved on the front and back to include a skull with flowing hair on the front and a skeletonized bird on the back. It's my reminder of life and death.
It's because we cannot help but fear death, especially if we like being alive. I suppose you'd have to somehow overcome the anxiety aspect surrounding that to think about it without it paralyzing your action and making you seek comfort and safety. After all this is preprogrammed survival behavior. Perhaps numbing yourself to fear by doing things that are dangerous?
Part 1: A Daily Reminder Part 2: Death is happening right now Part 4: What is essential? Part 5: Every new day is a bonus Where is the Part 3? May be it could be "Say no to a lot of things" or "Value time more than money/possesions"?))

This is probably my favorite Aurelius quote. I find it to be superior to the "golden rule".
The golden rule is precarious in my experience. We all have unique preferences in how we want to be spoken to, cared for etc. When I'm lazy enough to assume someone wants to be treated the same way I do, it often leads to friction. The key is being present enough around those I care about to learn how *they* want to be treated.

Not exactly. Some people treat others poorly, because they expect to be treated poorly. This is acceptable within the perspective of the "golden rule".
Mango man attempts to treat people in the manner that those people want to be treated.
Marcus Aurelius suggests to be good to people, no matter what they do to you.
I believe the "golden rule" is based on the same idea, but simplified in a way that needs less critical thinking to understand. Children may struggle with weighing other people's opinions, so if you give them a kind of universal question they can ask themselves, "how would I feel if someone did this to me?" Then they can more easily assess the situation.

I'm sorry but I don't see how you can read one of your books for the FIRST time again? I must know if this was a typo or intended lol
@@dareelcabbagelord1332 ; I’m sorry, but is obvious that you haven’t heard or read that phrase before.
The phrase ‘for the first time again’ implies ‘reading’ again a book that you have read before. I hope this helped you understand why the ‘phrase’.
@@dareelcabbagelord1332 ; There are many songs with that phrase for the title.
@@CarlosAvila-et8ko thanks but you didn't have to be condescending about it
@@dareelcabbagelord1332 ; I apologize if it came across that way. Please, advise where it is condescending.
I had my best intention when I commented. I enjoy your videos and your wisdom.
I saw a really nice memento mori tattoo on the inside forearm. I was only going to have one tattoo on me, but I think I’m going to get this one.
I thank god each day foe each breath so I was aware of the idea u gave it a name :) I like it
I don’t want the last words on my deathbed to be “I never lived.”
We are not insulated from tragedy ! Tragedy is the main focus of most news tv movies . Difficult to avoid tragedy pain suffering negative information .
Imagine you are actually so lucky and wake up tomorrow and take your bonus day to do tasks you dont actually want to do but they invest in your future (which is maybe not even given because perhaps you dont even wake up tomorrow)
I really dont get it, can someone explain it to me please?
I will speak to myself everyday, “Memento mori”.
somehow this gives me more anxiety.
@@valsptsd814 love it
The best antidote for "memento mori" is "carpe diem". Ironically you experience that in Persona 3.
I’ve always said, on my tombstone I want
Name, birth date, city - the quote “ I had a good run”, death date, city.
Would love to see another analysis of amor fati soon! 🙏🏽
thats nietzsches
Unus Annus helped me learn this.
I'd love to get a coin that on one side says memento mori, and on the reverse memento vivere (which, and i probably have it wrong, i take as Remember To Live)... they're the two ohrases I'd ever consider getting tattooed... if i was the inking type 😅
Just got “Memento Mori” tattooed on my hand
This was interesting. What does the writing on the bottom of the calendar says? Thank you.
"This is our big mistake: think we look forward toward to death. Most of death is already gone. Whatever time has passed is owned by death. We die every day. Seneca"
@@aalekswhite This just spoke to my soul🙌🙏
Life is NOT short. It is the longest thing anyone can possibly do
This is so good.
I look at dying as a win/lose situation. My everyday problems go away and the bad part is well I die.
Thank you.
I carry a coin that is a morgan silver dollar that was engraved on the front and back to include a skull with flowing hair on the front and a skeletonized bird on the back. It's my reminder of life and death.
The truth about Memento Mori brought me back to life.
1:12 shake speare said one third of his thoughts is about the grave after he retired
Part 1: A Daily Reminder
Part 2: Death is happening right now
Part 4: What is essential?
Part 5: Every new day is a bonus
Where is the Part 3? May be it could be "Say no to a lot of things" or "Value time more than money/possesions"?))
... "don't rush through this, because what You are rushing towards, is Death..."
This.
Momento Mori reminds be to appreciate each day!
Thank you
Living each day to the fullest.
Wonderful inspiring listen to this people.

Ask your self :
If I were going to die today, would I spend time scrolling through Instagram or RUclips for unimportant things? Absolutely not.”
I know all this, I'm conscious of it. what I find extremely difficult is to change my habits :/
