Singapore might be small in the map but once you get there, you feel like you're in a greater world with endless possibilities and their people are the most disciplined people I ever seen. I rather don't underestimate Singaporeans. Lee Kuan Yew will always be one of my admired people in human history. He's a miracle maker, making Singapore very successful despite of the odds.

As a Malaysian Malay, I'm sorry to say this but I think the national language issue was 1 of the main causes of Singapore's seperation. Malaysia's 1st Prime Minister Tunku(Prince) Abdul Rahman preferred Malay to be the national language based on the Malays being the majority race in multi racial Malaysia but he could have renamed the Malay language as Bahasa Malaysia-literally translated as Malaysian Language and was conceptualized by the Tunku's successor Tun Abdul Razak Hussein whereby Bahasa Malaysia remains our national language till today.Such a concept may have made Lee Kuan Yew accept the Malaysian Language as the national language and NOT the Malay Language but I think he personally felt that the Malaysian national languages should have been based on English and the Mother Tongues of the Malays,Chinese, and Indians-the 3 main races of Malaysia.Well in Singapore you have English,Mandarin,Tamil, and Malay as the Official Languages right?

SINGAPORE was named "Singapura" after an ancient sanskrit name - SIMHA PURA which those two words means "Kota Singa or Lion City"..the true nounce r "Singa-po-re" that spelled "Singapura" with modern malay spelling..
Old days, the colonist miss-spelled old spelling "Singapore" and nounce it "Singa-pore" like this day :)

@TheMissMio.. , so much. I'm an ang moh living in a grotty (but touristy) part of South-East London with a gang problem so bad, that even innocent kids going from one postcode to another could get stabbed or killed. An artist friend of mine got stabbed in the head. I've got nothing but contempt for the gangs in my area and I can't go out of the house without fear of getting mugged. At least LKY's a role model for me, has been since I was 16.

As a Malaysian, Im still proud of the history behind us. This would probably strike as an odd comment, but bear with me.
Think about it. No other country on earth does this. Everyone else is hell bent on grabbing more territory. So much so that even now in the 21st century we have unresolved issues. We have Crimea being annexed by Russia, we have South Sudan being formed out of the blue, and very recently we have China defaulting on its agreements by grabbing HK by force and by some bizarre legislation.
Ive said it before and saying it again. The decision to remove Singapore is the best and most ethical thing that Malaysia has ever done. We dont do shit like holding onto a territory and torturing it. My country is one that gained independence by sending our leaders to the country of our past colonists to ask for independence. We may be a bit crass in our demeanor but we demonstrate peace not by words, but by action.
That said, seeing LKY on video hear does pull out some pity. And respect from seeing his perseverance. Its clear that they dont make politicians like they used to nowadays

@TheMissMio Some? The Welfare state in Britain is over stretched and we have a population of spongers who can't be arsed to work (3 generations of them), making it worse for people who want to. I'm applying for 20-30 jobs a week and the riots we had in August were caused by idiots. The hand wringing by The Guardianistas was something I found insulting, saying there were no opportunities. These kids just have to know where to look. If only we had LKY to whip the country into shape...

I'm thinking the person who rule Malaysia is very selfish.. But that was during school that time. When I came home, something popped in my head that there were so many Chinese in Malaysia until like going to no food already and the Malays was the one who work harder. So please do not say that Malaysia very bad one leh. I Singaporean and my grandma is a Malaysian. I 10 year old some more but can understand one leh.

Bersyukurlah.
