How crazy is it that all the people there at the concert wouldn't know that this song would be lost for the following decades up until this point?
wtf didn't expect you to be here, i watched one of your videos when I was obsessed with ONE back then O:
What if it was all the work of AI? It is not possible that from a concert they ended up no longer being seen on RUclips
@@ilchad8016 I don't even know how to respond to this
@@ilchad8016 read up on the situation before commenting
And what's crazier is, it's more than likely there is at least one person in that crowd that had the cd and has been regularly listening to this song the last 20 years and it was never '"lost" to them.
The fact that they have a crowd THAT BIG and yet the song became unknown is crazy. This shows on how things can randomly go unknown.
Easy to slip through the cracks at the time. But our whole sound and thing really didn't fit to what was most popular at the time. We didn't know what was going except our own thing. But I looooved all the music our friends were making then and still do.
@@TheBennyFong And the fact you're LITERALLY the singer saying this is honestly the craziest part!
Now, do you know ANYTHING about "Everyone Knows That/Ulterior Motives"?
@@314rft Why would being the subject of a lostwave search make him more knowledgeable about other lost songs?
@@RQBtvright, doesn’t make sense to me either
@@RQBtv yea i agree
I bet if enough of these lostwave bands could reassemble, we would be able to hold a lost music festival.
That'd be beyond awesome!
you're my favorite person from now on
jokes aside I love that idea so much, imagine seeing artists like paula toledo, david sonJC, station K, big picture, and more in one sitting. would be really nice
edit: yall are right, seeing RTP appear would be cool as well, same with templeton thompson and sven lohmus! (even tho I made this comment before try to smile again was found lol)
good idea mate

Hi Benny. It's Ethan, the one who sparked the search by finding this song on a home video. I'm still in disbelief that we finally found the song that's been bugging me since I was a kid. Exactly 28 years after it was recorded on the tape, it was finally identified. The resurgence of Big Picture is much needed because this music is just pure vibes. My inkling for the good vibes was strong when I first started searching for this song 3 years ago. Glad that you are still making music and I look forward to the acoustic version with Asif.
Tysm Ethan for this encounter
@@behelit1997 Tysm behelit for this encounter
You're a legend.
I saw your video when it had 27 views
hey legendary story
0:45 he said the thing!! ugh, my heart.
NO WAY
ur pfp looks like my english teacher im crying 😭😭😭😭
@@whatafoolbelieeeevesYES WAY
It’s sounds so heavenly too 😭
its crazy that we have a pro shot live version of this song with a pretty sizeable audience as well yet it still became a lost song
To be fair though the snippet we had was like 3 seconds long
Impressive how good this performance is, especially considering that tricky 9/8 time signature!
There's even a bit of 7/4 in the verses!
You have seriously never seen king crimson then
Or gentle giant
I can't believe these guys became a whole band, released a whole album, along with music videos, and went to concerts, and yet, in the span of just 25 years, their work was forgotten. But I guess it wasn't fully forgotten. Perhaps the reason "world was so easy" was found so quickly, was because a fan watched the video and instantly recognized the song.
Nah. Chris Murphy from Sloan recognized Asif Illyas because of their connections in the Canadian country music scene.
The singing is phenomenal.
FRRRRR,, i alwayz thought that the singer waz a woman,, imagine my surprise when i realize it waz a man
Lol
He does have a great instrument! Sweet and affable voice
Damn the singer is handsome
his name is Benny Fong
FOR REALLL
And still is
The world was truly this easy
Lovely that we finally have this song. I'm hoping Friends and Like The Wind become found. This, and the previously mentioned songs never deserved to be lost.
That's my uncle Benny Fong on the mic! Glad this was unearthed. Big Picture at Dalhousie in Halifax was my first concert
Asif Illyas (the dude on the guitar who wrote the lyrics) uploaded the full album of Just Passin By, and the 2nd self-titled album to RUclips yesterday. I think he’ll be adding it to streaming services soon as well, check it out if you can 😊
is that the shirt shown in the third photo of the big picture on discogs?
PLS we need Big Picture merch
That’s the beautiful thing of lostwave. It gives this relief and satisfaction of finding another amazing song. Instead of listening to a limited version you can now hear it from start to finish. It also brings a community that have one goal and that is to find that song they love.
"To say, you wont be lonely anymore" that line makes me feel so nostalgic
I cant believe this song was THIS big to have a whole crowd, and then just becoming unknown. Its crazy to me how some songs just randomly become unknown.
It was just a small snippet in a big clip
i have this song stuck in my head
Same😂
Worth it
Without the 3 second clip from Ethan's tape we wouldnt find this masterpiece.
Even a concert existed and no one knew about the song for such a long time.
Probably because we only had 3 seconds of the song
Your voice is unique and phenomenal, you have a great talent.
why was this lost for so long this is better than most of the music i listen to 😭😭😭
Love that tune
HOLY CRAP, THESE GUYS ARE PHENOMENAL LIVE
Hi guys, just hanging with Asif today, we're going to do a performance of Just Passin' By for you all. Just doing a bit of vocal warm up and made this today. your voice is amazing bro, thankfully this was found because the full album is very good. hidden gem
Awesome
The enthusiasm while performing 😳
Interesting how they seemed to have a bit of a following and quite great stage presence. Yet their song still went "missing" and was actually quite hard to narrow down.
Makes you wonder how many lostwave songs are still right under our noses!
Thank You! From a 3 seconds song+video to the full song + album + original video and even another video from the song :D I Hope you keep doing great and to see more of your music.
I love this song:)
What I think is so so so cool is how a lost song from 30 years ago has brought this many people back together to remember it. You guys probably haven't thought about being in this band / this song for years. And now we all get to enjoy it again, and get to thank the folks who made it happen to begin with. Awesome 🌻
its unreal and so grateful
How was this song ever lost? It aired on TV, it was performed by a band that was signed to warner music and it was played on concert multiple times.
My guess is pre-internet/social media. I have some VHS Tapes of wrestling shows before Social Media blew up (2005-2010). Most of the commercials/content on the tapes aren't on the internet (Outside of some clips on WWE Network, TNA Wrestling Plus).
Nowadays if you record something, you can get it "out there" within seconds of airing. Back then it was ages.
@@ledude420 It makes sense. The thing that overall made me confused is how it looked like the song was a very big deal. I guess the song just wasn't well documented on the internet, which made it fall into obscurity.
@@sebixtenkrytyk Yep! If you have any tapes laying around, look through them and see what you got. You never really know what's on these tapes.
30 years ago we'd have to share music via passenger pigeon or telegraph. lol Yes pre high speed internet days. Super analog 1994.
I found the big pictures old website on Warners website on the wayback machine
Tricky time signature change! Nicely done...
Ben you have such a great voice 👍🙏
this comment is the biggest understatement ive ever seen in my life
Yes
fr tho
I thought the line "I never thought the world was so easily" was really catchy from that 3 second clip, enough for me to be intrigued. But when I heard the whole song? Fuck.... that "So long" line with the switch-up in the sound sealed the deal for me!
Some lost songs still give me the creeps even after they are found but I must say I actually really enjoy this song
same
And to think this all started over a VHS baby tape lol
the fact that sloans lead singer found this song ironically on the same day i was listening to his music. ill have to thank him someday.
It was found exactly 28 years after it was allegedly recorded in 1996.
@@EthantotheMax are you a fan of this underrated canadian band?
@@peterjohnisback I haven't listened to much of them but I feel obligated to now because he really helped me solve this mystery flat.
1994 :)
Gosh, what a great band and what melodic songs! It's really great
This album is fire. Still sounds fresh today. Benny is king ☝️‼️
I never thought this song would have a freaking concert vid
I have some wild content coming… Old shows, it’s of a bit of process to capture all this stuff… I’m having to use old computers and technology… And cable connections that I kept… It was all hoarded lol but I’m grateful that there is an audience to see this stuff… Just shocked anyone is interested. But very thankful for everyone’s interest.
Of course you'll find interest and I'd be happy to see more, really cool stuff. Keep it up
Guy has a really good voice, shame this song was lost for so long but glad it was a quick find
It's great this was found, this is exactly the thing 2024 needs. For a band like this to get rediscovered. Great seeing this live clip too. When it rains it pours.
Benny, your song will now have much extended popularity in an entirely new decade! Kind of a rare situation. 😊
🙏
I like this version more
Probably one of the only lostwave songs to have a live performance of said song.
I think Steve Walsh has a live performance of his song "Letters of Love", which is also a lostwave song before it was identified.
I think Funky/Dance for Hours a Day was a live performance, but I don't think there was any footage of it, only audio
Man On A Hill was found from a live performance uploaded to YT in 2008 iirc
All of this is so awesome ❤❤
What a sensational performance!! It surprises me they never really took off internationally, they were truly something else. Glad this was found.
It's just a grand feeling to have another "music video" of sorts of this song.
glad this song was fully found because its a bop thank you for posting this
I always put songs on when im sad, they make me feel less lonely but they never actually made me feel better. Today i was really stressed but when i sang this song it felt like all the stress suddendly went away, i think this is the first song to actually cheer me up. Thank you big picture.
WOAH this is such an awesome find, this song is so phenomenal it just keeps getting better with each listen!!
I like Big Picture
This song is really good. it would not work nearly half as well without that 9/8 signature. It has been stuck in my head for days now. Amazing live performance!
i've got an idea to mix this video with original version of this song, it's really impressive thing that y'all managed to play it perfect. Can i show this work for, maybe, archives?
3:13 beat drop was magical
Hi Benny Fong! I really Like The Album :-)
I'm honestly so happy the internet came together to help uncover this gem. The whole album is great. The fun, intricate melodies and rich compositions all come together here. It's crazy to think it was under our noses this whole time. Great stuff, and I'm glad I'm able to listen. Cheers!
this song is actually good wow im happy they found it!!
Thanks so much for the upload! It's such a bop!
What a great performance from everyone involved! This song was 100 times better than the snippet could ever convey!

It crazy to think that this song was played at a live performance, but it became forgotten decades later.
They looked like they were a band with a good reputation back in the day, sad they got forgotten in this century, oh well at least we got the songs.
Note: i just realized this is the official Benny Fong channel, so thank you ben for singing this masterpiece!
1:02 DON'T BE SO HAR- *consumes the universe*
It's amazing that a few weeks ago this was a long-lost tune, and now 30 years later its identity is exploding!
Glad to help. Was wondering why my comments section on this suddenly took off and was very confused for a few minutes- didn't realize there was a full-on search underway!
This is amazing... Ben Fong, you have a great voice
This song is now 30 years old. 😮
Thank you very much!

way to go for writing such a great song but Unfortunately slipping through the cracks and not being a hit at the time, Hard to believe this song is 30 Years old!
WHO CARES Big Picture is a awesome band and I Can tell you guys were having nothing but a blast On-stage.
God bless Lostwave for bringing this song (And many others.) to Light!

Does anyone know why this is in a youtube generated music playlist called new wave?

Amazing performance, it's even better than the studio version
The violinist is pure fire
Actually better than the original
THIS IS AMAZING!
I honestly had no idea this took place at an actual concert, i thought that it was in a building. The sunset looks nice in this video.
It was in our local british colonial fortress, It's called Citadel Hill. Located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
