Sir I was out of town. Hence delay in sending my reply regretted. Sir, today i participated in a bridge tournament. It was conduct in Mitchell movement which is player up and board down format. But ranking of result was done in combining both EW and NS points. But so far in know in this format scores are compared separately between all EW and NS pairs and NS and EW will get prizes separately. My question is combination of players from both direction allowed as per bridge law.

A very common form of scoring is a Mitchell movement in which you normally get a separate result for North South pairs and for East West pairs. It is possible to do a Mitchell with an arrow switched movement where the last round is played by rotating the board 90°, this results in a single result for all pairs. It may not seem fair to do this but mathematicians tell us that it is reasonably fair. if there is no arrow switch however then you should have separate East west and north south results.

Sir I have a question. In matchpoint scoring, what is the formula applied for calculating percentage. In one example, highest scorer In a board (650) got 100%, whereas next highest (620) awarded 85%. Shall be grateful if the theory or formula is explained with illustration. Thnx and regards

      If the maximum number of matchpoints is 12 (the board is played 7 times), then the matchpoint scores will be 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 0. 12 is 100%, 10 is 10/12=83.3%, 8/12 =66.7% etc

@@TonyStawBridgeClass Thnx for your prompt response Sir. I want to be more precise. This is exclusively for my knowledge. If there are 10 teams and number of Boards are 5. Then highest score should be 4 per board. However, I calculate process (what I have learnt) which is team defeating a team shoud gets 1, loosing gets 0 and 0.5 for tie. Therefore, for Board 1, Team (Or Pair) No.1 defeats Pair 2, looses to Pair 3 and ties with Pair 4. In that case, Team 1 will get 1.5 points for that Board. Percentage should be 1.5/4 x 100 shall be 37.5%. If it is correct, then how to calculate percentage on a total score of a team where there are 10 teams on a 5 Board tournament having total 18 boards each. That is exactly my question and any mathematical formula thereof. Otherwise computer scoring would be difficult. Regards

In Rubber Bridge scoring it depends on whether you have won a game. Here is a fuller description www.nofearbridge.co.uk/acol/vulnerability.pdf
