I have felt alone and isolated when I had my panic attacks and. I could not think of anyone I can reach to who would help just to be with me. Most of my friends do not understand because they are with partners and family and I have lived alone and am the only one who fends for herself. I sincerely know that for me, if there was one person who would possibly hold my hand to comfort me, that would make it so much easier. I kinda learnt, thru time, to take little actions that help calm me down. My main anxiety manifests as claustrophobia and I feel I want to run out somewhere. I must have had shame over all these kinda ways of being that crop up and thought that I was the only one who has them. In time, I find more and more people and work done on these issues and that have calmed me down. BUT still, when the panic crops up it is very uncomfortable. Today I had one re where I live with people banging and talking in the courtyard and almost outside my window (I am on the 4th floor) where I rent and , when I looked, they were building scaffolds next to my window and other windows on my side of the building. No one warned us. That is usually an issue because if I know what to expect and for how long, that helps me deal with it better and be more prepared. But I found out, I cannot count on that. So I called the office - usually no one answers... but luckily the manager answered and I told her... and I said I was anxious and that if she could let me know what is happening and how long it was going to last. Thankfully today, she responded. Usually they do not in the office. Their communication is not the best and they are remodeling and doing all kind of things around us but we are not being forewarned efficiently. So, you talking about this truly comforts my soul. For one thing, I can embrace my panic attacks and feel that I am definitely not the only one - and also you provided so many tools and ideas... and I shall re-listen to remember. I never forget, before I knew about my panic attacks, there was a young guy on the plane once next to me who was panicking and asked to hold my hand and I gladly did because it feels good to help. Thank you for this episode. It has healed me and transformed my feeling of shame and isolation! 🌺🙏
