I've met Billy on multiple occasions and it's always random but 100% of the time he's been SUPER cool. The last time was at the airport in Miami. He was there with PG. I walked by, said HI and gave them both "knuckles" and kept it moving. Always cool.
36 minutes of wonderful stuff. If there were a couple of my bass heroes I'd wanna sit and casually discuss music with over coffee, these guys would be them. Absolutely fantastic. Thanks Nikki and Billy for this and for all the great music and inspiration you have brought to me over the past 30 years. Keep on doing what you do.
Billy Sheehan is not only a great musician, he is an incredibly intelligent man, well-versed on many subjects. It's refreshing to see and hear such a well-informed and well-rounded person. His comment about social media and how he responds to individuals is entirely true. I messaged him in reference to my own musical journey and he responded with words of encouragement. Billy Sheehan is what music is all about, and it would serve the younger generation greatly to learn of his journey and to utilize, at least partially, what he has offered the world of music, to forward their own musical prowess.
Totally agree! Billy is so very generous with himself to people of all levels. He's one of very few artists that truly interact personally with his fans on a daily basis. He has wrote me back many times on social media. This, and his playing, makes him the greatest guy on the scene.
Usually you find the honest insane musicians are incredibly intelligent also. Rock is definitely lacking now a days for people like Billy. This new generation has what, country music?
I can't add anything to this thread other than to say, "Absolutely! He is and does everything you all referenced. One of the kindest, most sincere, down-to-Earth people I've ever met, musician or not."
I agree absolutely, but what kind of ruins it for me is like Chick Corea, he's a scientologist SMH which I just don't get how these brilliant genius musicians can believe in such goofy sci fi nonsense dribble made up by a completely insane ranting sociopath with fish lips.
wow to hear billy say he sucks is incredibly amazing considering how talented he is thank you Nikki for this interview i have a lot of respect for both of you
Amazing interview...Billy is always insightful and very down to earth! Nikki did a great job of feeding and moving the interview along as well. very cool!
I seen Billy Sheehan live in Toronto eat'em and smile tour with David Lee Roth . Billy was awesome he plays bass like Steve plays guitar what a great show .
I’ve been a fan of Billy Sheehan since Jr.H.S., and he is just the nicest guy you’d ever wanna meet, not to mention the most amazing bassist in the Rock world! Long life to you Mr. Sheehan, and I hope your playing bass at 100 just as well as ever! 👍🏻
I came home, into my everyday life, went into my music home studio to wrap my wife's birthday gift. I flipped on the computer, hit the You Tube App and this was the first suggested video... it was great. As a life long Bass Player, I truly felt like one of the guys just hang'n out. So much fun Nikki, thanks
Nikki, really good program. Mr. Sheehan is just a great guy. I appreciate the realness of your conversations and genuine interest in your guests. Big fan here. Thank you.
NIKKI: I can't tell you how much I appreciate you investing your time and treasure to bring us these incredible insights into a world and a people most of us would've NEVER been privy to otherwise. You're great st this, please continue for as long as you still get enjoyment from doing it. You're a genuine dude, and someone we're all better for knowing in this manner.
I still have a denim jacket that was autographed by the members of Mr.Big. I met all off you in San Diego when you played in the California Theater. All you guys were super cool.
Comment: at 36:00 "If you could have your mentors communicate back to you".....I wrote letters to Genesis, Motley and Iron Maiden. Snail mail back in the 80s was not efficient at all! So SO happy you guys had this sit down on youtube. Being a bassist of 30+ years you guys made my night. Many thanks to you, to Billy (learning so much from him over the years).
Billy is the best, hands down....what a great guy. I was at that Victor Wooten camp 2017 (bass and nature camp 2017) and met Billy. Thanks Nikki good stuff
I'm just now watching these interviews, little late i know, Billy just said he had a new band, THE FELL. I paused the video right then and there, sorry Nikki, and watched the Footprints video. That singer is FUCKIN INCREDABLE!!!!! Thank you for introducing that to me Nikki!!! Now back to your video....haha
As a rock and even bass composer nikki is a true genius..billy is more kind technical with crazy finger..but nikki has the intuive knowledge of RnR , playing no more than the good note in exact groove. He is the mind of MC
Great interview!...Actually, it is more like a conversation! Life long fan of Mr. Big and Motley. I really like how you guys talked about things that aren't brought up in standard interviews. Really cool.
I love all your youtube stuff Nikki - I am a late bloomer but I love to write songs and spend my money having them produced - I would be stocked if you listen to a couple. Even if you don't have time, it is ok with me, I just like the guests you interact with here and on My Favourite Riff. David
In 2008 I had the opportunity to go out to L.A. for a couple weeks. Stayed with a close friend of my mine who owned a rehearsal studio on Burbank Blvd. I was fortunate to sit in on a rehearsal with Billy Sheehan and Ray Luzier from Korn. I was late to the rehearsal because I ran into Nikki Sixx at Venice beach . Couldn't resist had to ask Sixx for a picture.
Dustin Hickey.. that is absolutely awesome Billy one of my favorite bass players and Ray is one of my favorite drummers now been following since DLR and shit have had a man crush on Nikki since I was 12-13 over 30 years. Lol
Tony And The Battle for Truth yeah Billy and Ray crush it. Went to the Joint in Hollywood to watch Billy and Ray sit in with Izzy stradlin play a bunch of covers. First song they played was highway star by deep purple. Totally blew my mind. They were intense.
What Billy was saying bout learning something new every day reminded me of a Joe Seneca line from Crossroads which I throw back at people if they call me a know it all "How are you going to learn anything new if you think you know it all?" Also about technology taking the inventiveness out of music. When I was learning you either slowed the record down with your finger or hoped that there would be a magazine interview with the guy explaining the technique. If you were REALLY LUCKY you might get a bit of tab. I remember trying to figure out the Eddie Van Halen stuff and I'd come up with a different way of doing the piece. Its just to easy now cos all you have to do is look it up on you tube. If I did Dog camp I would want to spend time with Billy even though I play guitar.
Great guy. Although..it was very disappointing when I learned that he was a long time member of the church of scientology. He has been a member since the 70's. So despite being an amazing musician and super cool guy, he has to be slightly 'nutty' to believe in that crap. I don't believe in god..so I obviously don't buy into any religion..but scientology takes the cake as being one of the more crazier 'religions'. Hubbard once, famously said, 'If you want to become a rich man, start a religion'. Well, guess what>? He did and look at it now......sad.
Nikki was born in the right time, Him moving to LA was the best thing he could have done for himself. This day n age, no one gets signed lol, Ya do but from underground labels that do you absolutely no good at all, They won't get you in arena's. Today if ya don't have money and ya don't know anyone, Ya mise well hang it up. So many bands out there no one cares anymore. I have been playing since I was 14, been in a few serious bands that actually did something. But ended up splitting up, guitar player couldn't stay outta jail, put us on hold one to many times. I grew outta it, got tired of wasting my time. Got plenty of recordings, enough memories for a lifetime. I play for fun at home now.
Nice to listen and watch to your interviews Nikki! And nicer to get you back and enjoying more with music and musicians...I got into some Motley when a teen, now a friend of mine brought you back to me..but I also got into your story -your video-and Sixx AM..and this Sixx Sense´s interviews, which I found great! I must say your bass always sounded thunderous..I love that sound..That old and strong , really audible bass...Your perhaps aren´t super technically..but you really GROOVE!...I want to ask some Q....Which amps where you using in Motley times..and which ones do you prefer or recomend for that deep and "thick" bass sound? Thanks for this interviews....thanks for your music....!! (Ah! I a woman bass player from Argentina.)
Nikki, pull an up and coming guitar virtuoso on this show, Dani Rabi, Band name Marbin. Check him out.....he is out of the pocket, bad ass , dynamic truly has his own style , sound and groove, you and your audience will dig him.
Does anyone know what country record or song that was he was talking about, the one he says he played on? I'd like to hear it . Yes the scientology stuff is a bit weird
Billy Sheehan is a great musician and nice guy. No ego. Only thing I do not like is the fact he he is a Scientologist. Anyone who knows all the dirty secrets of the "church" (in tax status only) that are now flooding out from people like Mike Rinder and Leah Remini wonder how intelligent people will put up with such things, but I'm also not certain any of the celeb people even know what really goes on in the church which is more sad. It will implode someday and leave these people emotionally ruined. Billy is a great guy and I dig his craft and music. Same with Beck ('Loser' Beck not Jeff Beck) who is also a Scientologist. Love his music, cringe at the thought he's a celeb Scientologist. [/rant] Don't really want to get into a Scientology discussion it's all very open and public now.
Mr. Sixx, I have a 13yr old daughter, who is a fan of yours, and would really like to learn bass. Sadly, I know nothing about a bass, amps, strings, etc. She has been saving up money, but I don't want someone selling her something bad. Unfortunately my husband and I are not in a financial position to really help her. Can you recommend anything for a beginner, that isn't to expensive, but still worth the money? hisbean Like Billy said in this interview, bass is a GREAT instrument to start with. It's just as hard - or even harder - to master as the guitar, but the first few notes and songs can come with relative ease :)
We all know that Sheehan is an absolute killer player and it is obvious from his interviews that he is also a great guy. However,....it is a shame that he is a bat$hit crazy scientologist. Sure, they have essentially been brainwashed. However, at one point, they had to have been a willing participant. So even the nicest guys do not get a pass from me. Sorry, Billy. Not liking the moustache. The chin patch thing looks way better, Nikki. Hope you shave that shit soon! LOL! Otherwise u look really good and I hope the shoulder is healing well! Thumbs up! Subscribed!
sonicfuker: From what I've heard, Nikki never set out to be a great bass player, his goal was to be a rock star and he's absolutely accomplished that goal. It's true when he started on his journey he couldn't play that well but not many people do when they first start out. What he has done though, is become a solid player and that's what really matters and he's a great song writer to boot. You can run up and down that neck 90 to nothing all day long but if you can't hold that groove what's the point?
"Nikki never set out to be a great bass player" -Yeah well, goal accomplished because he's one of the worst. If you think that he knows how to "hold down a groove" then my friend, you have a MUCH different definition of that than I do.
sonicfuker well, while you may be very accomplished..... you seem to get a thrill out of running others down. that's an interesting way to live your life.

what a great show. Down where it belongs, mother earth! Thank you.
Great interview Nikki. Billy is really a stand-up guy as well as a master bass player. \,,/
Nikki is a great interviewer, always letting the interviewee speak and, if he interjects, always with really cool anecdotes.
Nikki, really good program. Mr. Sheehan is just a great guy. I appreciate the realness of your conversations and genuine interest in your guests. Big fan here. Thank you.
I love this show! And Billy is the most bad ass bass player ever!
I love this show. It's so great to see and hear the love for music, the humility and gratitude expressed. You guys are awesome!

Nikki - Love the show. ill play guitar with you if you want a band.
Excellent interview
Billy !! Koolest of the Great Musicians! Incredible Bassist!
I was lucky enough to see billy sheehan in Baltimore with Steve Vai in 2005. Billy is a monster player. Seems like a nice guy too.
This feels like eavesdropping on 2 old friends chatting down the pub. Love it!! 🤘
Billy is so awesome.
I'm proud of having his autograph on my bass
Omg! This channel is amazing!

amazing interview!

I can't imagine anyone saying anything bad about Billy Sheehan.

Anyone ever wondered if Billy and Steve were twins separated at birth?? ultra skilled, love music inside and out, love to teach, tell stories.
billy is eddie van halen on bass,he stands alone
Nikki was born in the right time, Him moving to LA was the best thing he could have done for himself. best sums it up,love your instrument
you I've never been into motley crue but I do like Nikki six as a person, respect.
Love the Tony Franklin mention. You could bring him on the show
Awesome show Nikki!
What an awesome dude
great interview.
Ok Nikki, 3rd band. Let's go...
Billy is such a class act
I am a big fan of Billy. For those who do not know of one of his first bands, its called Talas and they kicked major ass
Awesome thanks.
thanks nikki for you Chanel
THAT'S 0WEN WlLS0N DRESSED AS NlKKl SlXX!
So entertaining.
This show is addicting.
You guys should try to get Blue Oyster cult on the show. That would be interesting!
"A guy named Victor Wooten" LOL
For real lol...he doesn't play too badly***
Nikki, pull an up and coming guitar virtuoso on this show, Dani Rabi, Band name Marbin. Check him out.....he is out of the pocket, bad ass , dynamic truly has his own style , sound and groove, you and your audience will dig him.
Totally get the 'back in black' advice though. Its a buzz to jam along to the whole record
More bass players please!
Billy Sheehan is so clean that he measures "clear" in his Scientology status, plus he hasn't had so much as even an aspirin since 1974!
Does anyone know what country record or song that was he was talking about, the one he says he played on? I'd like to hear it . Yes the scientology stuff is a bit weird
Mr. Sheehan mentions playing "Shy Boy" as part of Eat 'Em and Smile but not as a song from his band Talas???
sterlingevans more folks will know it from DLR than Talas so maybe that's why
I bet Nikki can do a killer Owen Wilson impersonation.
Nikki!! Boston "06" Borders book signing, thanx fer sikki sense!
ha ha dont forget song by joe jackson steppin out its quit good
Nikki Sixx should never pass on a beginner video.
Can Billy read music yet?
So this is what the bastard son of glam metal does after Motley Crue or what?
Billy sounds like Mitt Romney.
Nikki is looking Rough!
Nikki has a birthday in December & for 58 coming on to 59 he looks better than most.
Mr. Sixx,
I have a 13yr old daughter, who is a fan of yours, and would really like to learn bass. Any info would be really appreciated, as I am trying to help my daughter pursue her dreams.
hisbean Yamaha have HUGE bang-for-The-buck-basses, from the $200 to the $20000 range, they all are great. Have someone set it up properly with fresh strings and whatnot, and she's good to go!
Thank you. We'll have to check it out.
The Yamaha TRBX174 is a great beginner instrument that will get the job done. Once she's getting into it then start looking at amps, especially the THR series by Yamaha which have a bass setting, and can also be used for electric guitar as well, if she decides she wants to go in that direction.
Thank you so much. She would like to start with bass, but IS also interested in guitar. She just figured bass would be the easier one to start with. I really do appreciate the info, as I was flying blind on this.
hisbean Like Billy said in this interview, bass is a GREAT instrument to start with.
I hesitated when I included the 'bat$hit crazy' adjective in my statement because he doesn't seem crazy... But anyone who is willingly involved in that cult is obviously crazy. Sure, they have essentially been brainwashed. However, at one point, they had to have been a willing participant. So even the nicest guys do not get a pass from me. Sorry, Billy. You are a legend and I highly respect you as both a player and a man,...but you are crazy.
Not liking the moustache. The chin patch thing looks way better, Nikki. Hope you shave that shit soon! LOL! Otherwise u look really good and I hope the shoulder is healing well! Thumbs up! Subscribed!
Invisible woman??
best and worst bass players in the same room..
Why?
Huge fan of Billie, he's an incredible bassist but I never liked his bass tone, just too much treble and mids for my taste but phenomenal bassist.
Man I agree with you 100%...all the tones in Mr Big were absolutely pathetic, but Billy's playing changed my life...
Hahaha, Nikki thinks he's a bass player... Bwaaaaahahahaha!
he is. he's just not as awesome as Billy is on Bass.
Pleeeaaaasssse.
sonicfuker: From what I've heard, Nikki never set out to be a great bass player, his goal was to be a rock star and he's absolutely accomplished that goal.
