One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was. "Start then figure out how" Before this advice I was waiting for the perfect time to start my business. Once I changed my viewpoint I was in business from that day on.
This was smooth, as someone that founded a startup that eventually failed my biggest lesson was to do shit myself instead of waiting on outside help. For example: if you're not an engineer but have a great app idea, learn how to code and build a barebone version yourself even if your work is at a D level you'll start to attract others that will be willing to help you take it to a C and eventually to a B
I've never met someone that I love to hear from so much. I just launched my Startup and I'm running around trying to figure everything out - it's awesome... I've had to recondition my mind as my first passion in Music forced me into the mindset that everything had to be perfect before you released it. This however is so liberating! Thanks, Garry. Seriously can't wait to grab a drink and chill with you!
You can tell Garry is an awesome designer by the fantastic production and editing he does on his videos. In my opinion this is one of the best channels on RUclips. Thanks Gary for this amazing ‘free’ content ❤️

Now, I still don't earn any money but I am so content that I working on making my company a reality, I just went ahead with what I had (no money, no resources) and now I have the greatest thing of my life to date.

Garry, out of all the channels on YT I watch I feel like yours is your most quality, selfless, and overall insightful. Thank you.. planning on doing a deep dive on all your content soon
Garry Tan, Your decision to help people with this valuable advice has made you truly stand out, am indebted to you, for helping me START, i come from a little country in Africa called Uganda, and these videos have really inspired me alot, Thank you sooo much, keep them coming..
Weird analogy but throughout the rock & roll references I couldn't help but think of Kanye's come-up in rap. It hits all these points perfectly. Kanye came up when gangsta rap was at its absolute peak (arguably never died down) and here comes this kid in a pink polo rapping about Jesus and surviving a car accident over soul and gospel beats. Institutional conflict --> Music labels were only signing gangsta/hedonistic rappers like 50 Cent, The Game, Eminem. There was an unmet need of non-gangsta, but still fun to listen to, rap Do it yourself ---> Kanye spent his summers remaking every beat from every hip-hop album in order to grab the attention of Jay-Z Make it easy --> Kanye's beats were (are) distinctive because they often utilize the human voice as background vocals. It was very easy to identify the beat of a hit song's as Kanye's Make the movement public --> Jay-Z was at his apex and let this relatively unknown producer from Chicago produce AND rap on his albums. Perfect example of a leader embracing a first follower as an equal These principles are probably applicable to every high-achieving person
@@GarryTan Wow! Thank you so much. A simple "Isaac Donis from New York City" is good enough :D Thanks for inspiring me to start to build since even before you did RUclips!
Garry, I watch your video for inspiration at any time I feel down. These videos mean a lot for a tech founder/professional. I hope I still can access these videos when I'm 70 after 50 years. It would be perfect memories for life.
I love your content, but more importantly, I love your delivery. It is clear that you care. It is clear that the videos are part of a larger vision to make this world a better place. Thank you 🙏.
Garry, this is my new favorite YT channel, yet interestingly, almost none of this information is new to me. I do however like your clarity of thought and your ability to express those thoughts in ways everyone can understand and be inspired by. That’s a powerful and rare art. Much love & support. 🙌🏾
I can't hold my tears back while watching this video. You inspire my to be bold and not give up for the thing that I have been always dreaming. Thank you Garry! I hope I can meet you someday.
Dude, yes! 🤘 I was literally JUST thinking over the weekend how my hardcore punk rock youth and upbringing has a lot to do with my love for start ups and my drive to be a founder. Tech startups and their founders are on a course to disrupt the status quo, as was I in my youth as a young anarchist punk rocker. Being a founder will be a way to keep my youth spirit alive and hopefully change the world for the better.
Wheow! You struck me with affirmation that I don't need affirmation to start what I have been dreaming to create. I wanted to rationalize but yes f**k perfection, it has to start. I just need to begin it. Thanks, Gary!
Woohoo, I've been binge watching your videos while doing other work on the side. You are my people. I'm so thankful for people like you finally giving me a place to call home. I've been working on something for almost 3 years now that has a lot of potential to change the dentist career field that I'm in. Do it yourself is the only reason why I survived the difficult times. I know that it had about a 100 percent chance of success because it solves a serious problem
This is one of the best videos from Garry that really connected with personally. As a DIY artist it's hard because you want everything to be so perfect while fighting doubt This is a big deal when you create your own videos, trying to do SEO while creating the songs sometimes you just got to let things fly and learn as you go.
Garry this is an amazing video. So many people have ideas and plans but never execute. The key is to start. Reminds me of tony Horton’s p90X program if anyone reading this remembers it! “The hardest part is pressing play “ After that it’s easy !
You're speaking my language. I followed this path for many years, just putting myself out there - imperfections and all. And I stumbled my way from passion to hobby to entrepreneur to small business to successful exit. And even in the end, it was FAR from "perfect." Perfection is overrated. Creating things that make people want to join you through authenticity and humbleness is the only right path. No expectations.
I watched this video 20+ to fully grasp. But it's fun to listen such an insight and under the skin momentum of making a different experience . I m also a designer and trying to make a dent in this life. Hope for the best and enjoying my work from the bottom of my heart. That's true. I felt a real connection of these videos.
I do really appreciate Garry's vision share. It's definitely one of the most valuable youtube channels you could subscribe to. Thanks, Garry! you are actually the life mentor that I have not met yet, hope I could meet you one day in my life.
Ever since the first video I saw on your channel about $200M. I have been a follower. I created a start up/movement in West Africa from the issues I faced and its growing fine all within a year. Hopefully we scale and go continental in less than 2 years. Thanks for your weekly advise
Listening to you talk about how ideas turn into movements reminds me of David Sacks saying the same thing on the Paradox Podcast. Highly recommend listening to anything David Sacks is on.
Thank you so much for these videos Garry. I didnt grow up surrounded by people with ambition or success. I've never had anyone to look up to and learn from. These videos are so eye opening and empowering.
Ahhhh... Good stuff! This reminds me of when I'm so frustrated when I made mistakes that could easily be avoided with some guidance/code review from a senior, but yet I'm glad that I made it, and I fix it and move on. 🤘
Video came at the perfect time. I was feeling like exactly this part is holding me back. My Current 3 goals are: Going to the US with a e2 investor visa startup, getting onto shark tank and getting an investment, sell the company a few years later for deca million in profit!
I have learnt so much from your short videos than I learned from many of the University courses that took me a semester. Thanks. Keep impacting our lives.
Hi Garry your informative videos are so helpful and inspiring. As a Startup founder I'm learning it is what you know and it's who you know. I thought building a company with a strong intellectual properties such as patents will give my startup edge over others. Truth is it does but left us lack of funds to grow my startup. Our business model has been copy but by a major company trying to scale but they failed because they weren't known for that. Garry I like to talk to you about what I am building for world and it's digital infused future.

Amazing video, Garry! So often we think/feel that it whatever we do needs to be perfect before showing the world... But this video challenges that! Will share with my friends and co-founder!
I really learn a lot from your channel and I definitely connect with your philosophy around work ethic. I'm happy I failed over and over again when I was young, it built up my personality to be resilient, but most importantly how to persevere and keep pushing when things got hard. Success is 80% hard work and 20% luck. I worked at multiple startups (in SFO) as an SWE, Architect and I'd like to pitch an idea to your team. I feel very compelled and passionate about AgTech for our future. I'm not in a hurry, but I'd like to learn more about the actual process. Would love to have you as an investor and mentor.
In the past I've had the mindset that X is for people who can afford it, or Y is for people who don't need to support their family. But, beyond being comfortable, its for people that simply took the plunge to do.
Good advice. But also very confusing.... You advocate to do it all alone, but your other clips emphasizes the importance of having a co-founder(s) for your startup.
