One challenge I've always had here is that a JTF, which has its own subordinate Service Component and Functional Component, then might designate an entirely separate ARFOR. There are obviously times it is beneficial to have distinct SCC, FCC, and ARFOR, but it does expand the JTF CDR's span of control for non-operational reasons. I think joint doctrine is far too light on JTFs, though it has improved over the last decade. Also, the JFMCC chart shown is heavily dependent on unspecific (though discernible) operational considerations for each broad action listed.
