I remember seeing Take 6 & Layla Hathaway in concert at Tufts University, back in 89 with my fellow choir member. They were selling the "So Cool" CD at that time. Of course I bought one. Their harmonies were and are absolutely PHENOMINAL! At that time I was singing and Co-managing a Trio. "Oh Mary Don't You Weep" was spectacular! I rang in my ear for a week. Our group had so much admiration and respect for close harmonies with (9s #11 b13) that my acappella quartet chose to sing "Spread Love" at our High School graduation. We received a standing ovation. The audience loved it! As a vocal coach and Music Director, I have performed in concert over 300 times in America and Europe since the 80s. I can truly say that Take 6 was one of my greatest influences and inspirations along with Earth Wind & Fire Comissioned, Sweet Honey In The Rock, Chicago and Manhattan Transfer. One last thing, I had the chance to say hello after the concert. It was at that University in the Boston area suburb at the meet and greet. The Guys were classy, down to earth and great role models. They still are to this day! KUDOS TO THESE SPIRITUAL MEN. Guys if you're reading this, keep up the soul healing work that you do. The world needs to hear and see your nourishing light. Take care. Be Well.
Guys, thanks so much for your podcasts... it is so gratifying to hear you guys share among each other as well as with Manhattan Transfer. Now, regarding what Mark mentioned regarding the mix. I know a band (you've probably heard about) Vocal Sampling... they do that, I am not 100% nowadays but I recall their manager was the mixer, I think dutch... this said, he knew what the band would do so they would sound the same or quite similar on live shows. Love the gathering, and yes, the covid situation is a bummer but we have to all consider different options, online, and present together in a near future. Keep spreading the love!! Best & Blessings to all of you!!!
I agree with Cheryle about "overproduced" vocals. It becomes stale and very "ear fatiguing". No surprises ( happy mistakes).. Just a homogenous mix of perfection. Boring..
“There’s tuning and then there’s tooooning” 😂🤣 💀 💯
Lol. Dave just went on this "diatribe" about pitch-center, when the question was about fav songs to sing/ least fav song to sing 🤣🤣💯😂
