I got one of these used for $40. Most of the drivetrain parts are interchangeable with the redcat gen7, so I was able to put metal lockers and transmission gears. All it needed to run was a new driveshaft, redcat everest 10 was a direct bolt on. Not a bad truck for the price.
@@IowaBudgetRCBashers it basically is. HSP is who manufactures the Gen 7 for Redcat, and most of the parts on the Gen 7 were unchanged from previous HSP designs. Thats definitely a rebranded RGT 136100. I had one and gave it to a buddy. Servo stripped out instantly and replacement ones stalled all the time. Replaced the ESC with a used 1060 I had sitting around and added weighted beadlocks with knockoff super swampers then it was a formidable crawler. ESC fixed the stall issue and the aftermarket servos gave me much more steering angle. Front diff stripped out twice where the driveshaft went in. Finally found a Redcat all metal diff that fit perfectly.
It's similar to the 136100 V2, but not identical. We have got a review of that here on the channel and it actually crawled better than this thing! I'll have to compare them side by side next video, thanks for the info.
@@RCTNT had me fooled! I actually looked back at my order from Banggood and the title is "HSP RGT 136100." Of course the titles are commonly jibberish. Mine was a Defender body that was nearly the same shape and size as that Jeep body. I'll have to look back at your review.
You've got me wanting to take a closer look at both together, too. For sure they're similar, but there are differences. RGT is a brand owned by HSP. They used to use RGT as their high spec race brand about 10 years ago, after pulling out of the racing market they repurposed the brand for their crawler range.
Cheap prices doesn't necessarily mean cheap performance, most of the price of our trucks comes from developpement and advertising costs ... however you have to be more carefulll and choose wisely. A few years ago, here in Europe we could get a rebranded SCX10.2 for half the price of Axial's (also sold in other parts of the world under RCX and.another brand I can't remember yet) ... sure there were some cost-cuttings, like "philips" screw that were pretty prone to rust, and metal shielded bearings (though still better than unprotected bearings), rebranded WP1040, a different Cherokee body and maybe a few holes here and there that weren't exactly were they were supposed to be on the rails ... but it performed as well as a SCX10.2 and you could even upgrade it with the same hop-ups (except axles covers, they used larger bearings for the diff). Unfortunately it phased out last year, now it's only available with portals ... yes, AR44 with portals without the wider stance associated with portals, with a G500 body, for less than US$250 ... and for $120 more you can even get it as an updated 6x6 UMG10 (full length chassis rails, 2-part 3rd driveshaft, rear inner-fenders acting more or less as brace) with portals and lets face it, a realist but pretty ugly body (search for Bureko 6x6 but you've been warned) ... both with a 4-ch radio with one on-off-on and lighting ... Sure the portal gears from the RTRs are filmsy, maybe they broke a bit more than others portal gears, but hardened ones are available for cheap and with little work, you can even use gears for Capra.
From what I remember, HSP, RGT and FTX all have similar cars, depending where in the world you are. There was a really nice car they made a couple of years ago, called the Pangolin. That's was very similar to the FTX Mauler, but had 4ws, straight from the box. The controller is also the same as the older FTX models, and the tread on the tyres appears to be the same as the Mauler. The steering issue is exactly the same as the Mauler, and you'll get a few more degrees by shaving down the steering stops. The Remo Hobby Axial Honcho and Deadbolt clones were really good, and the chassis's were again, very similar to the HSP, RGT and FTX cars. And the Paso is an awesome little car!! Just received the Hyrax clone tyres and put them on a set of alloy beadlocks, and it made such a difference. Good to see some of the cheaper models getting some exposure. 👍🏻
HSP is an OEM of all these cheapies. FTX is just peddling cheap chinese stuff with a premium. It's just not worth it to try and save pennies on these things. After couple of chinese off brands and spending too much time and money to make them usable I realised that Traxxas/Arrma/Element price is more than justified. These cars are trash.
Reminds me like a bigger version of the 13860* RGT but without the charming size and body. Rather than [only] a pinion, I'd go straight for a 5-slot highest turns motor I could slap in it.
The biggest selling crawlers in the UK are the FTX Outback range, which are mainly rebranded HSP/RGT crawlers. Easy to see why when they are a third for the price of a RTR TRX4. For something cheap that performs well try and find the FS Racing crawler, also known as the Reely Free Men. It bears a more than passing resemblance to an SCX10II, which might be because FS Racing is an OEM manufacturer for Axial and Arrma.
The steering can be increased by the front adjustable axis, you adjust for the wheels open. The first thing you can do is change this poor wheels and tires 😁. This chassis is very light weight, you can add more weight on wheels and chassis. Motor and a small pinion will be a good one upgrade. Basically it’s a SCX10 one (maybe two) clone, and the upgrades needle will be the same.
I'm with you on the weight and wheels but not on the comparison to scx10. It might look similar but it really isn't. The steering in particular is so much worse. I overhauled the rig yesterday, so l'll share how I fixed everything soon. I'm itching to see how well it goes now it's been modified!
Great video man. Looking at those axles those look to me exactly like a redcat E10. Try those steering hacks out like chub screw moved to backside of the axle. Those helped a lot with my e10. Transmission looks like redcat also
It is largely redcat. The Gen7 portal axles are a direct fit. With that kit (including spur and pinion) and a better TX/RX it is a perfectly serviceable crawler.
HSP is the oem manufacturer that made the E10 and Gen7 cars for Redcat, as well as many other Redcat cars. So the same steering fixes for the Redcat works for the HSP Boxer. Cut the stops off the steering knuckles, countersink the screws holding the C hubs on the axles and put a bend in the steering link to clear the diff.
Thanks, good info. I fixed it yesterday and will show what I've done next video :) They're fine axles from a strength perspective, but yes that steering design was pretty woeful!

I often look at the Chinese market prices on Taobao as my guide. If you see the prices of Cross-RC trucks in China for example, that is a good guide. It is amazing how low the prices are on those but even accounting for the price of shipping they are still a great deal. My cheapest buys to date have been a FeiYue buggy and a HengGuan truck. That's why my video is different to any hundreds of others out there on this truck - not that I'm aware of any of them. I make a point of not watching other reviews as I want my thoughts to be fresh and genuine. Hope it was helpful, that's the goal. Cheers

Heh, thank you. Glad it was helpful. (Out of interest, while I was modding this for the next video, I tried fitting the sliders you made for the 136100 V2 but the holes didn't align).
@@RCTNT yeah there's a slight bend required, if I remember right, made possible by them being TPU. I'll take a picture of ours and send it to you.
@@RCTNT What's kind of funny is, untill you said this, I had totally forgotten about that. I put those on there so long ago, and haven't looked at them since I put them on (they just work, nothing to look at), that I forgot the holes are a little bit off. I will fix that in the model files and send those to you.
Holes don't line up with the HSP - not a complaint at all about your work! Just noting it isn't the same as the 136100 V2 :)
@@RCTNT OH! I thought you had noticed the slight misalignment on the 136100V2. Because, there is one, and I forgot about it. But yeah, I guess that's another point of just how different the two of these actually are, despite the obvious similarities.
Can you do a review of the cheap enduro se utron
Planning on it, once it's available here, yep
@@RCTNT great thanks.. maybe compare that with the knightrunner.. I'm not sure if you have it...
Will do, yep!

Redcat Gen 7 would give a it run for its money in the poor steering stakes.
Really? I hadn't realised how bad that was. And what an improvement the Gen8 must have seemed.
I can’t find em for sale in the us but I want one
I just sunk 4 hours into it today. Looking forward to testing it on the 6 problems again tomorrow. I reckon we'll get a few out now.
That said, you're not missing a lot with this one. It's cheap but any other cheap one for similar money is probably similar in performance.
I got one and with a few mods it's a really good trail truck
I can believe it. I've done my upgrades now amd filmed the follow up. It's a lot more capable!
@@RCTNT anxious to see it!!
I have a few videos scheduled ahead of it. Editing now. Will probably publish early July, FYI. Thanks for your support!
🖐😁 Nice sharing my friend 👏 👍
Thank you 🙂
Thank you
I enjoy modding vheap crawlers
Me too :)
I've just uploaded the next video for this rig, it'll publish early July.
Yep, smaller pinion gear, sought out steering, & maybe decent oil adjustable shocks, I noticed shocks were not adjustable, & maybe just change front axle for steering, tyres are ok 😉 😁👍, my reely freeman crawler, covert scx10ii, 😝😝 is awesome, I only paid £180 for it ,I have put smaller pinion gear 13t 48dp on 17 turn 540 motor ,which never given any problems from new, put in original scx10ii back diff, & original scx10ii transmission, which go in perfectly ,17.5 kg servo hd one, she now running with ftx geo/ rgt desert fox wheels n tyres, awesome , crawls over anything, 😉 😁👍 oh & original scx10ii slips clutch lol 😁👍, shocks too, original ones greeked alot, irritating 😱😱🤣🤣
Sounds pretty nicely sorted :)
Hey mate of topic question do you know much about tanks? Heng long in particular
I don't, sorry! Never had one. Have heard of that brand but that's about it!
@@RCTNT there great fun super scale got mine for 240 AUD whereas a tamiya is thousands I mucked up rewiring the remote and blew it up having trouble getting the gun working again I recommend trying one! Pity this crawler didn't hit the mark love the cheap underdog RC s
I see, that's interesting. My wallet is giving you the side eye but I'm glad you mentioned it, I'll have a look at them :)
@@RCTNT worth the smiles for the miles my friend also fun as a builder because they have model details. I have a challenger 2.british /Australian tank
the everest-10 would be a better buy?
I'm not able to advise you on that as I've not had an Everest 10 before, I'm sorry.
What's your video any different any hundred other videos out there on this truck?
My video is every bit as special as your thoughtful comment here - it's your take on things. Just like this video is mine. And, since I'm a nationally-ranked competitive driver in this class of vehicle, hopefully my opinions have some utility for people.
And also of course, my obstacle course here, the '6-Problems', is something that I've used to test most crawlers on the market. So now my channel gives you a useful idea of capability compared to most others from the big brands. So here, you can see what it's like on the rocks compared to all the others.
I bought this with my own money so opinions about the car are hopefully as unbiased as possible. That's the aim - even for sponsored videos on the channel, my condition of accepting a car for review is that I'll give my full and honest opinion. That's not negotiable.
That's why my video is different to any hundreds of others out there on this truck - not that I'm aware of any of them. I make a point of not watching other reviews as I want my thoughts to be fresh and genuine. Hope it was helpful, that's the goal. Cheers
A redcat gen 7 pro would be a better starter rig for sure
Absolutely, yes.
Is this the new version of the Gen 7? Lol
I'm just learning from a few of you guys today how much this apparently resembles that car! I hadn't realised.
Fixing the steering now. Much better already, thankfully!
@RC-TNT Yeah, as soon as you got to talking about the price point, my ears perked up...as soon as you said the steering was bad, I saw a redcat in disguise. To be fair, after some work, my Gen7 Pro is a mountain goat.
Gotcha! I guess most crawlers can be made to perform, though the effort and money required varies! I reckon I'll have this thing purring without too much pain - hopefully!
Oh no i definitely pass to expensive for cheap stuff 😢
Cheap isn't always cheap, this is true!
@@RCTNT lol not even the doors open..
They usually don't, on polycarbonate bodies, even expensive ones.
@@RCTNT ok
Neat
OLD Flysky controller.
Yes indeed. Very.
Nice Review my Friend!
For €$180/200 maybe more €$ 250/270 and a RGT EX86010 is a lot better?
I can't speak to the performance of the EX86010 as I haven't tested it, but it does look like a much higher quality machine, yes!
@@RCTNT Is almost the same Chassis of the RGT EX86110 you already test but in a more short (only a little) wheelbase.
Yes, it looks very similar. That being the case I'd expect it's quite good!
@@RCTNT Yhap, a very capable and Cheap RC, i have one (well is my Wife RC) and from start shows a very capable and Fun RC and after a simple mods and up-grades (Wheels brass and Tires) start to challenging the TRX6 HéHéHé!!!
That's a big claim! I might have to look at one of these and see for myself!
Can't seem to find it anywhere 🥲
Ah that's a shame! I just tried all the usual places and I can't either. Bummer!
