This video shows how a window regulator and motors works in a car or truck. It also shows how easily they can break and why they have to be replaced. acediscountglass.com
+STREETRACEN4U looooooooool. I thought I was the only one who was laughing uncontrollably. As soon as the guy started talking like he created this most state of art presentation. But its very helpful.
Well that's right, I still don't know how it works; I guess that the motor has a cable attached to it that winds around some sort of cam that slides the window mount and attached window up and down the rail but, I didn't find that out from this video and I don't live in Texas nor am I going to visit Texas either so I'm screwed I guess.
I love the arrow. he is really a good professor. anybody can understand the contour made by his expensive arrow to locate associated stuff that make the window move. What a nice demo. I repaired windows of 23 cars after learning from his lectures. thank you. if any body did not understand you got to check up your brain with a doctor to change some parts malfunctioning in it. he is simply super in making difficult things simpler. most of the teaching job is done by his expensive arrow. i wish i own one to give it to my teacher in my institution (he also teaches car repair course but uses his pointing finger) . i wonder whether he would like to sell it to me.
Agreed....and they also make it sound SOOOO complicated to do anything. In the Toyota I had, the *algorithm* to reprogram the window was literally: roll it all the way down, roll it all the way up, roll it all the way down, roll it back all the way up. It's in the owner's manual for crying out loud. Also: still trying to find out exactly what that window regulator does...
@@r4ptorbunny593 what the trashh man, optical drives for computers use just a power switch at the end of the travel to stop the power going to the motor, or why cant they just put a weight sensor that stop the power at the minimum increase of resistance. My peugeot window if you put your hand there it can harm somewhat seriously, those system have very strong torque.
Yeah that arrows scares me a lil from the beginning but then I realize the guy is pretty much knowledgeable to teach us how this is done and straightforward, easy to understand, thank you
Great video. Glad you are ignoring the idiots talking trash about the arrow. It did the job and doesn't need batteries, etc. Also, great job on the demonstration door. Very very nice.
door panels are usually pretty darn easy to remove and you can usually find a diagram either in a shop manual or online to see where the clips are and where the screws are.
i really don't get into saying negative things to people on the internet, but I will comment on this. The title for this video is: "How car window regulators work." However, a more appropriate title might be: "Do business with our company." I really am working on a car window regulator currently and clicked on this video expecting to learn something. Instead, you just basically told me I can't do it myself, so I must come to your "garage" to have work done. Re-title this or put something else up that is educational.
i thought it was educational for a person who knows half the info being able to see it from this angle and having him explain to me the common issue helped me conclude that i should focus on my regulators performance although the motor works i may be able to fix this and not spend 80 dollars on a new entire set up . i feel the video may not be for idiots or beginners with no common sense because im a beginner and now because of this video i was able to see how it works you cant see through the door in a car you own so basically the video is legit and he is entitled to advertise himself its called grinding in the hood only hustlers respect a hustler dont be an anal piece of shit and take the info with a grain of rice. its like these kids grow up learn how to have a voice but then misuse the power of their voice because they're so eager to show the world hey "im observant now" but guess what you're not experienced thats why its best to keep your negativity to yourself until your mind grows enough to make better assumptions in life and progress as an adult please grow up and dont allow your petty immaturity to get the best of you . think before you speak use the info you've probably ignored your whole life because you dont like being told what to do mr i have a voice come on bro you figured out how to speak properly and now you think you can attack someones dedication he didn't have to do this video and maybe if there were more morons in this world like you nobody would have made the video and everyone would be oblivious to window regulators.
Thanks for your nice video in which you do a good job of explaining how window regulators work. Don’t be discouraged by hate-filled people posting untrue, malicious comments like the one below from ExtantFrodo2. I think I will drive to Austin just to have you repair my window regulator. Keep up the good work!
at the very beginning i thought that arrow was a mouse cursor.... till i noticed the wire, lol. this fellow is a genius.i am not being sarcastic either,i love the simplicity of that such great idea.Greetings and thanks for such a good video.
I liked this video. I'm a dummy when it comes to cars. I have a 2003 Toyota Highlander and one of my back windows won't roll up or down anymore. For a day or two I could hear the motor but now I don't. This was educational for me. And I liked the arrow pointer, thought it was rather clever!
Funny how you make this seem so complicated. If i listened to your tutorial on changing the sand in my cat box I would probably be terrified of the difficulty in doing it. Would I have to re-initialize the box after dumping the old sand? I'm not sure where the shit sensor is.
You do have to reinitialize it on some cars. Like my Nissan 350z. What happens if you don't is that it'll roll up all the way to the top, not knowing where the top is, hit the top thinking its some obstruction, and roll halfway back down.
My window fell down, everyone said it's the regulator. I thought WTF is a regulator. Now I know. Great video. I will pay someone to fix it so I don't want to see a video of fumbling hands.
At first I was thinking cmon man you couldve animated the arrow. Then I was thinking how amateur the fishing-rod like pole was with bits of tape here and there. However I got past that and was giving the guy credit in actually holding the rod quite firmly and not shaking all over the place. As I settled in and started watching more, it was when the actual arrow head moved diagonally on the end of the rod that really won me over. How brilliant I thought, top marks bro, awesum! Rod controlled up and down operation, aha, that explains the taped pole.Naturally I dived into the comments to see what others would say about the arrow and have enjoyed all the other arrow comments.I got as far as some comments against the actually content and actually stopped there and didnt watch the end of the video. Apart from that however, thanks to the arrow-maker for your invention and bringing a big grin to my day. (Hey, you're not a digger/back hoe operator are you?)
My Gray Old Lady F 250 7.5 90 got lazy the window powered by the battery and eventually the switches quit working much at all and then just died when someone messed with them and today I tried the old by pass trick with an old piece of electric cord from some old messed up and salvaged lamp and it worked: used the battery both posts and hooked the cord to the connector coming out of the inside of the door front and it worked: reversed polarity and up it went and down and my wife was really happy and then she said I got to fix her side of the truck: passenger side. But I was estastic or electrified and not fried. Thanks for reading this. I enjoy videos on hot do it your self.
Thanks for the video. I learned a few new things. This is not applicable to my '99 Ford Exploder, but still, I'm learning. I learned that there might be somebody in my area that specializes in this type of work and they might do the job for a lot less. . . I prefer the old hand cranked windows that worked for 50 years instead of breaking after only 10 years. .
Changed my front right regulator with just a few screwdrivers. It's very easy on most cars. I would be interested to know what kind of cars require these special tools.

Hey there, thank you for the instructional video,i had a question, i have a 91 mustang and it has the old style regulator and my question is,if the regulator's teeth are attached to the window motor gears why does the regulator have a spring on it? just so when you take the motor the window doesn't fall down? thank you for your time!!

I have a Nissan 350z when the window is rolled up with in about 2 hours the when comes down about 2 inches and if left over night it will be half open. Would u have any thoughts on what this could be and how to repair it. Thanks for your time and great video on the way you cut the door open with detailed explanations.
Ok, does the regulator with motor come with a new cable because mine is frayed so I ordered the before mentioned and I'm hoping it comes with the wire cable as well. I figured ordering the regulator alone would not come with the cable since it probably is attached to the motor. Now if I'm wrong, I'm gonna be spending a lot of money to fix this problem with the frayed cable.
Hey, I've got a Renault Laguna 2002 Hatchback, and my Rear driver side window regulator broken. Do I need a 6pin Regulator or a 3 pin? I can't seem to understand the difference.. Thanks!
Question. I have a 2003 Toyota Highlander. My drivers side passenger window won't roll down. I can hear power going to it when I push the button from the drivers seat. Any idea on what the problem might be?
How often do these window regulators break? I had to get two (drivers side and front passenger's side) repairs done when the regulators broke within a month of each other a year ago. AND NOW almost a year later the window regulator is broken again on the front drivers side. >_> I'm not convinced they fixed it correctly. How often are these supposed to break exactly?
Hi there I have a 1999 Vitara 16V here in Thailand. For a couple of years the driver;s window would fail, I thumped the door to cure it and eventually made a little hole in the door lining and tapped the motor via a slim screwdriver through the hole to the motor. It mostly worked but is now unreliable. I don't know what a aftermarket motor/regulator set costs but I know from Suzuki it's 8000baht (over $250) Even half of that is a lot in Thailand. My question is, given its almost certain to be the motor at fault, is it possible to disassemble these window motors to replace the brushes or repair them? Or are they fixed permanently together? Thanks v much
OK, Just so I have this straight. In this order to fix my window regulator , the first thing I need to do is cut the outside Skin off my door so I have good clear access. Am I correct ? lol Obviousally I'm joking, But I did notice something we have in common... My computer skills also suck. I would have to make a cardboard arrow also,, Seriously Great video Guys,, Thanks
Wife's 2011 (looks same as yours) Elantra got broken into. They busted the passenger front glass with a bar. The glass man came and when he was done said it wont roll up because a clip on the window regulator broke also. He denied he did it. Said they do that sometimes. Anyway, he said I had to buy the whole window regulator when all that is broke is the clip. From your video, it looks like just the clip could be replaced. Would you know?????
Most of the "re-initialization" sequences are if equipped with auto up and/or auto down : Hold the switch on the 2nd click (down) until the window is completely down then hold the window button on the 2nd click (up) until the window is completely up. That at least covers : Fords, Audi's, Volkswagen's and toyotas. ( they are the only ones i've tested) But i'm sure its close to the same on most makes and models.
No chip in the motors. Might be a hall sensor but thas eet. Theres an interrupt switch at the bottom and one on top to stop the motor for some cars, on others the circuit trips when current increases (motor pulling more current when trying to push up a window thats already up).
You went to all that trouble of cutting open the door, hooking up the power, making the pointer, filming it, and puting it on Utbube but didn't really explain about the motor, cables, spool, and one touch. Just a infomercial for the few people who live around Austin!
I actually loved this video. Great info. I actually laughed at the sarcastic morons critizing the use of the arrow. Very funny comments! Lol I think the arrow was genius, unique, and creative. Keep up the good work.
I have this problem on my audi a4. Except when i press the window button, i hear a noise but nothing happens. Does this mean its just the regulator? I have to prop the window up to stop it falling down!
love the arrow... we have an Ace Glass here in Richmond, VA... A bit far to go to fix my Silverado, prob a bad motor... hmm have a friend in Georgetown TX though....
How do I get one of those arrows. I want to use it to illustrate what toppings I want at Subway.

So how DO window regulators work then??
Never mind, the arrow made this the funniest thing I've seen for years(I don't get out much).

A lot of interesting information, unfortunately none of it explaining how a window regulator works.

I don't know about coupes... But it's definitely the ones that the body of the door doesn't frame the top of the window.

How does the window move up and down the guide? Is there a cable system? Is it hydraulic fluid, like a brake system? I'm not understanding. TY
hi does the glass have to be fitted to regulater to make just the regulater go up and down cheers

Except when i press the window button, i hear a noise but
nothing happens. Does this mean its just the regulator? I have to prop the window up to stop
it falling down!
I'd say regulator. Could possibly be the clips that hold the glass to the regulator.
I love your arrowhead lol!!
love the arrow... we have an Ace Glass here in Richmond, VA... A bit far to go to fix my Silverado, prob a bad motor... hmm have a friend in Georgetown TX though....
