This is one of the first “10 things you didn’t know about Lego” lists I’ve seen for years where I actually didn’t know any of it. Makes me half tempted to get the book
I need to create a list of strangely rare Lego parts for the Lego group. I'm not talking about discontinued parts in themes, but basic bricks or curves that they could easily put in a set.
If only Lego still put as much effort into trains today. Imagine we got multiple smaller sets meant to complement each other rather than one gigantic set that most people can't afford, which means it doesn't sell too well, which means the higher-ups put less faith in the theme, perpetuating the cycle.
There was this expo with this huge display of the space theme and monorail with giant space base with lights flashing and stuff back in the 80s here, probably the greatest thing I've seen as a kid collecting Lego. Each time I see that monorail I always remember this expo. 😮
Does Lego still make the base player for the space / Lunar surface? These hade craters in them to mimic the surface of the moon. I think I might have several of these buried in my basement from when my son was young.
These talking points are very insightful! I especially like the talk about the "part gets expensive - lego remakes it ". I wonder how much longer until they remake the dragon plumes and dragon shields and dragon knights.
The Creator houses (starting with Building Bonanza and on through sets like the Model Town House, House, Beach House, Family Home, Apple Tree House, Hillside House, Seaside House and Family house) were amazing sets (I own quite a few of them) and I wish they would make sets similar to that again (large size but without using up a large amount of parts on interior and exterior details that make the sets more expensive).
Great video! But in the last point you were showing the wrong promotion set image (1831-1) because that maersk truck do not contain the construction helmet, the driver actually has the original baseball cap in maersk blue (BL number of the Figure: msk001). The correct set that contains the maersk blue construction helmet should be 1651-2 Maersk Line Container Truck.
Thank you for pointing that out! While I was watching this video it was driving me crazy. I was like "I swear that driver is wearing a baseball cap and not a hard hat."
What a genuinely insightful video! Some true "industry insider" anecdotes that I've never heard about before. I really want to pick up a copy of the reprinted book now! 😃
Some of the helmets and air tanks required to complete the different coloured spacemen have turned up in some pretty random sets. Hopefully they add the grey and dark blue ones soon
Great video - loved hearing more about all these, and would love to hear more from the author! Especially the line from Building Bonanza to modular buildings…really fascinating stuff.
Wow, that Maersk blue hardhat story was very sweet. That means we'll soon get a new white goat with light brown spots, just like the old one, right? So that all Lego fans can finally afford getting one of those, right? 🙂 ....riiiiiight? 🙃
I looked his book up on Amazon and there was an interesting review saying the font was too small. In another review it was too big to be held comfortably. Great interview nonetheless.
Okay, so if the Lego designers intentionally made the Maersk blue hat they need to remake the black mini-plume from castle and the white mini-dragon plume from dragon knights.
So what you're saying is that if things had gone slightly different, we might not have had trains and modulars? That is scarier than any dystopian future I've ever heard of 😀. Then again, it might have freed them up enough to continue with Castle and Pirates themes, so...potential silver lining? 😁

This is so much more intensely nerdy and brick-obsessed than I expected. And I'm soooooooo down with that.

Now I wanna see the book-based Potter Sets
4721-4723 are probably some of them.
This was great, love videos like this! I need to know more secrets.

So good - great gems you shared - appreciate it!
Great video, good to hear these inside stories / history
Brilliant,thank you .
Glad to hear about this book. Thanks for the heads-up! 💕
That book sounds like a good read. so interesting.
It is good, but the typeface is very small, so get your magnifying glass out!

Now I'm really curious what other parts/colors/figures got included in later sets solely because they were highly sought after and rare previously.

What a great and interesting video - thanks for sharing something a little bit different!
I really thought this was fascinating and fun!
Trains almost got canceled? Glad that didn't happen, my childhood would've been so less awesome! (Yeah, honestly, my adult life too...) Great vid!
Great video - loved hearing more about all these, and would love to hear more from the author!

Awesome video! I am now interested in the book!
Great research! I learned a lot despite being an AFOL for over ten years now, lol
Very interesting interview!

i was one of those who bought building bonanza in 2004! beautiful looking house

Cool interview. Nice top 10 brick facts.
Amazing!
Just ordered your book ❤
Good stuff!

Well….im definitely buying his book! No question about that
Just be aware the font is very small in the book, making it difficult to read..
@@langserv thank you for the heads up
I tried to read this book but the font was so small it was unreadable. Are there plans for an ebook or larger font?
That's a common complaint
80ies 12V trains are the best!
Very interesting!!!!🤔
Glad they never cancelled the trains 😌 still tho the line of trains they have out could be better nowadays.
Definitely
I want new monorail sets
I guess im one of the last Mixels fans standing. Is anyone also a Mixels fan?
That gap in the tile is bothering me. Did you try pressing to check for a secret panel?
What gap?
Do you have OCD, Bendy?
Faboland x friends cross over- Animal Crossing basically haha
I *almost* put a picture of one of the Animal Crossing sets up on screen when he said that 😂
