b pavilion I used the Epsom Salt with fragrance oil from my soaps & it made my clothes softer than without it plus they smell better than vinager. So, it worked for me. I really noticed the difference in my towels. So, I guess it works different for other people.
Southphxgirl Nava Magnesium reacts with washing soda to produce chalk. It reacts with soaps to deposit soap scum. Whether or not you believe it, science is always right.
I tried your recipe. It has made my clothes softer. My clothes do not irritate me anymore when I sweat. I prefer this recipe than the distilled vinegar.
Epsom salts contain magnesium which is one of the major minerals in hard water. What's happening is you're making your water hard or harder. I use coarse kosher salt or non iodized table salt.
@@marinaguarnero Hello from Florida! I add it at the beginning of the wash like store bought crystals because I'm lazy. 😊. My daughter adds them with the rinse cycle. I add the same essential oil to my wool dryer balls. I just want my clothes clean, fresh and soft. I wear fragrance so I don't want laundry scents to clash with it. I hope this helps. 😃
I love your recipe. I so agree with you on that vinegar smell from the other fabric softener recipe. And I went back to store bought. But this is a game changer. I make my own laundry soap, and I do add the scent Crystal's which are Epsomsalts with a nice scent. So, this might be an added boost of freshness and softness. Thank you!
@@Glogluxx sure, I'll have to get it for you & will give it to you. Its similar to a few here on RUclips, I make a large batch, then make it I to a liquid form.
Here's my recipe. It makes a very large batch, 2 large 5 gallon buckets full of the powder form. Then I make a few gallons of liquid form laundry as needed. You can reduce the recipe as you like. Ingredients: 7 bars Fels Naphtha 3 bars Zote soap 2 lbs Baking Soda 2 Boxes Super Washing Soda (55oz boxs) 2 boxes Borax Laundry Booster (4lb. Boxs) 2 boxes OxyClean (3lbs boxes) 3 to 5 bottles Scent boosters (Salt Crystal type, not the waxy circles) Directions 1: Grate up bar soap. Mix with all other ingredients. Run through food processor to make smaller bits. Put into 5 gallon bucket(s) w lid, or your choice. Directions 2: In lg pot add 1 gallon water (I use an empty laundry soap, or orange juice etc jug, fill that with hot water, then add to pot, to get exact jug amount. Add ½ cup dry soap mix and bring to a boil until all dry mixture is dissolved, while stirring. Then remove from hot burner, let cool slightly, and pour into your jug. You can add about a spoon of liquid glycerin (which will help it stay mixed). It slightly gels and you will need to shake the bottle before use. I just love this mixture. I'll have soap for many many years to come from this. You can also reduce the bars of soap if you like. Fels Naptha is great for stains, and Zote has citronella which helps keeping mosquitoes away. Crystal scent beads are made from Epsom salt and is a water softener (the other waxy ones may clog up washer). I prefer making it liquid as I do a lot of cold water washing and the bar soap doesn't really break down enough in dry form. Hope this is helpful, you can see other recipies on RUclips, I have and came up with this one.
She doesn’t understand that Epsom salt makes water hard. It reacts with washing soda, a water softener, to produce chalk. You want chalk on your clothes?
I have a question.. can some of the essential oils cause a fire in the dryer.. and if I have grey water will it kill my plants.. I’m new at this trying to be mindful with the planet..
Epsom salt contains magnesium, a hard water contaminant. It should never be introduced to wash or rinse water. She doesnt know what she’s doing! AVOID THIS CRAZY RECIPE!!!!
Kimono Snail I’ve noticed it definitely softens the clothes. The smell isn’t as strong as commercial softeners, but you aren’t getting the toxins from the synthetic fragrance or exposure to all of the bad ingredients. Plus, it is so much cheaper!
Such a great video! Sorry if this is a silly question but if you have a front loading washing machine do you just put the powder straight on top of the clothes? Why is it a bad idea to put it in the drawer? Love the recipe thank you for sharing! Just wanting to make sure I do it right :)
Ridiculous. No, this is not useful. Epsom salt? Are you kidding? Did you sleep through chemistry class? Hint: look up hard water. Note that magnesium is a culprit. Follow up with why you want softened water for laundry. Helpful suggestion: take this jar and dump it out in your garden.
8 c Epsom salt
1c baking
60 drops of essential oil
I made your fabric softener and I LOVE IT. Thank you for sharing.

Lol. Advice from a science illiterate. It’s a method for understanding nature. Do you have a better one? Let’s hear it!
I think if you can mix in an open mix bowl life would be easier for mixing
You are absolutely right about the vinegar smell. This is much better. It softens as well.

hi!! so you just put salt mixed with essential oil before the end rinsing? what if you do not have a top loader??? marina from Portugal :)

the recipe works! it is truly good
I suggest that the next time you add the baking soda put the cover on the jar and roll and twist it around,

Nonsense. They’re not epsom salt.
Amazing! Could you share the link for a natural clothing detergent that is natural but not killer expensive?
I appreciate your tip.
@TKOrchid, can you share the recipe of the laundry detergent?

can u make a liquid version of it? for example melt salt in warm water, add baking soda and conditioner?
In place of Epsom Salt if we have hard water, could we use fine grain sea salt?
you can mix it better in a shallow container. and then put it in the jar
Thank you can't wait to make my own

Doesn’t epsom salt rust and leave build up in your washer machine??
I have a question.. can some of the essential oils cause a fire in the dryer.. and if I have grey water will it kill my plants.. I’m new at this trying to be mindful with the planet..
Essential oils won't cause your dryer to burn. Plants may be affected by grey water
My plants love epsom salt. I would try it once and see how they react.
The fabric softener I buy at store has different ingredients
How many cups per load please
i guess one table spoon is enough, but check the comments first, they say epsom is a bad kind of salt to use
1/3 cup per load
She suggested 1/8 cup per load or more for bedding
This would destroy my new washer... My hard water is already too hard.
So is this Epsom salt recipe itself a fabric softner? Or just a scent booster?

We put it together like that, put the lid on and we shook it until it was mixed
How much do I put in a load?
cassiedlc I’ve been using about a half of the quarter cup scoop, so around 1/8 cup. I add more for sheets, towels, etc.

Don’t use this.
I don’t know if it missed you saying this but did you grind your epsom salt first
I but the fine consistency kind.
