    My No.9 pick "Pandemic: The Cure" has been removed from Tabletop Simulator since I uploaded this video. This is the nature of using unofficial mods, the publishers can ask for them to be removed. To make up for it, I have included a link in to a great scripted mod for Libertalia, another game I would recommend, and will talk about in a future video.

    A nice keyboard shortcut is if you hold Alt+Shift over a card (or object) you "peek" behind that card (or object). This does let people know that you just peeked by having a pulsing Eye icon over the card/object for about 5 seconds.

    • @IvanSensei88
      @IvanSensei88 4 года назад +2

      Well, yeah they don't get anything, but they do reserve the rights to pull it down. Keyforge is one of the mods where the guy who made it pulled it out of the workshop. Some other companies even made a mod for their own boardgame themselves - and that's pretty cool of them if you ask me.
      What's kinda interesting are these.... call it Nonexistent Board games. Board games that don't exist in real life.
      Some people have made conversions of online games into a playable board game, or even made up their own. Some have even taken existing games, and created alternative versions with fan-made content in it, or rule overhauls etc. That workshop right there is quite a treasure trove.

    Those were some awesome reccomendations. As somone who has been playing on TTS for a bit I have been wondering why many of the RUclips board game folks, who have been covering TTS during this quarantine, feel that TTS is fiddly? I mean, board games are fiddly as all get out, and it's a board game sim. Even with no scripting there is no set up or take down , only between turn re-setting, which in real life you do by hand, and in TTS you do with a few mouse clicks. Is it just because it's digital, so folks expect more of the usuall board game fiddlyness to be done by the PC for them?

    • @jonathanpickles2946
      @jonathanpickles2946 4 года назад

      For me part of it is manipulating objects can be much harder in TTS than in real life. Then there are the crassly stupid elements like letting things fall off the virtual table. TTS is a physics sim rather than a things you really need in boardgames sim. In a game you might need to generate a random number between 1 and 6. So in real life you roll a die.
      In a boardgame simulator toolbox you would have random number generator tools. In TTS you have virtual dice that are a pain to roll & can fall of the virtual tabletop for god knows what reason. It is the dial up modem of VTTs.
      That said it is great for some things like card games and games with lots of set up if they are well scripted.

    • @quesoblanco444
      @quesoblanco444 4 года назад +2

      @@jonathanpickles2946 Dice only fall off the table if you are chucking them, you can select or mouse over and hit R (Or get a mod dice tray or tower, like in real life). Also, just set up the game how you like it and make a save, no scripting needed.
      The physics sim element is one thing that appealed to me about it right off the bat, I like a sim that sims well. but I supposed that's different expectations.
      I do have friends who can't stand the virtual aspect, and want a more push-button approach.
      For me the ability to customize everything to your liking is also very appealing,
      That said, I do totally get how some find the fiddlyness just to much.

    I wish more mods used the scripting - it's such a faff on some games trying to do things like discard cards which should be a trivial thing

    • @quesoblanco444
      @quesoblanco444 4 года назад

      Why would you need a script to discard cards? All it involves, like most stuff in TTS, is moving your mouse and clicking.

    • @ishoottheyscore8970
      @ishoottheyscore8970 4 года назад

      @@quesoblanco444 - becuase it involves more precision than it really should do. The interface is far too finicky for things like that where if you don't hold the card in exactly the right place, it doesn't properly join the discard pile. It can also be a faff trying to manoeuvre to the right discard pile, but compare that to having a zone on the screen that if you move a card to there it automatically gets added to whatever discard pile is correct. The latter is much, much more user friendly. Most creative industries use a stylus, not a mouse, because a mouse is not good at accurate placement in comparison, and a good amount of the TTS interface doesn't take that in to consideration.
      The goal of any interface should always be to not require people to think about how to use it, and scripting to remove the fiddliness of TTS would be a big part of that. Not to mention the absurdity that SU&SD highlighted where draw bags don't 'shuffle' so elements dropped in to them will be drawn out again in order

    • @quesoblanco444
      @quesoblanco444 4 года назад

      @@ishoottheyscore8970 But you only need to drop the card roughly over the discard, and it will snap to the pile automatically. Are you playing a game with many discard stacks? Maybe really close together? (I have not used a stylus myself, so can't speak to that)
      There is a mod for an auto-shuffle bag as well, so that's no prob, though it would be a good thing for them to make that official.
      Thank you for the response.

    • @ishoottheyscore8970
      @ishoottheyscore8970 4 года назад

      @@quesoblanco444 It depends on the mod - the Falling Sky mod for example it needs the card to be held over the discard stack in the right place, it doesn't have that snap to function (partly because it hasn't defined a discard stack when the game sets up). It's probably even more egregious in that game because there should be one operation on the event deck. Some mods do a better job than others, my issue is that a few too many simply contain the art assets from the published game, but do nothing to help it flow

    You don't need to buy the DLC?

      @romanphoenix999 There are official versions of some games, which are paid DLC. The other games are free, community built versions of board games. That's why the suggestion of, if you really like one of the games you get via The Workshop, consider buying the real life version to support the creators that way.
      I am playing Gloomhaven on TTS with friends who I had played the board game with, as I already own the physical game.

    • @Schneu369
      @Schneu369 4 года назад

      @@wbeytel I've played Gloomhaven 3 times with my regular weekly group, and it has several benefits over the live experience once you get used to it. Setup/takedown time is DEFINITELY one bonus, since you can save the game state at any time and just come back to it. Try leaving the physical game out on your dining-room table for a week... Great implementation!

      @@Schneu369 I fully agree. We are currently continuing with our Gloomhaven campaign on Tabletop Simulator while all of us are stuck in a lockdown. The TTS Gloomhaven scripted mod is phenomenal! Probably the best mod in the workshop.
      My initial comment just pointed out that the game itself is definitely not for everyone. For example: my brother, a Euro board game fanatic, doesn't like it at all.
