I cannot tell you how obsessed I was with The Wizard of Oz as a child. I had a Dorthy dress and ruby red shoes and wore it as an outfit at least once a week for about 2 years. I even had my mom do my hair in pigtails when I wore the outfit.
Me too. It was my favorite movie as a child. My grandmother actually recorded it 3 times on one VHS so I wouldn’t have to keep rewinding it. She made me Dorothy’s dress by hand and I wore that dress out. Don’t know what happened to it, probably got thrown out because it was stained, faded, had holes. God I loved The Wizard of Oz 💚 Have you seen/ heard of Wicked? I really enjoy that too. You should also check out the Dorothy Must Die book series if you need more Land Of Oz in your life.
I understand aswell I loved the munchkins and the song Ding dong the witch is dead if you go on RUclips and search up DDa instrumentals you should see the wizard of Oz tracks with no vocals from the 1939 original
Last year I made my own ruby shoes. I ended up going the glitter route. Warning about that, the shoes end up very rough and stiff. Great job! Loved them!
I don't know if you know this but, there are blueprints for the Ruby Slippers with a simple Google search. I'm glad that you watched the movie and even went to see the shoes in person. The blueprints did survive the fire that MGM had years ago which is where some stuff was destroyed. Also the soles of the shoes are also red. Ive seen a video where you can mix modge podge with your paint and you can make it stay instead of it chipping away...I found that out the hard way when I made mine lol.
Back in the 80's, I was a Professional Drag Queen( not like the over made-up Queens of today), and I had a pair of these made for me. They were size 12 1/2 and cost me $350.00! but, they fit perfect and I wore them for many performances. I didn't "do" Dorothy, just liked them since childhood and had them made to go with a red gown that was mostly sequins. It had a small train and went over BIG! The Wizard Of Oz was and still is my favorite movie. You did a terrific job on these.
Yours is not a simple project, but created a work of extraordinary workmanship, you managed to recreate the same magic of the original shoes, congratulations❤
Wow - even without the big rectangle beads those are still really spot on! Can't wait to see what you make to go with them, your dog is a perfect Toto!
I live in a small town that does not really any stores. One mom &pop grocery store and two gas stations. We have to go to the next town for any “real” shopping. It’s frustrating at times but at times it’s like a special day when we get to the larger towns.
You literally inspired me to pick up my sewing machine for the first time in over 2 years. I tried one sewing project with it and gave up until I saw your videos. :)
Words can not describe how much I love and always have loved the wizard of oz, and it is impossible to count how many times I've seen it. Can't wait to watch you make the shoes from the movie that made my life WAIT I JUST REALIZED IM WEARING AN OZ SHIRT AND RUBY SLIPPER NECKLACE WHILE WATCHING THIS I-
Fun fact: apparently the costume department on the original movie used bugle beads to simulate rubies but they were too heavy so they were replaced with sequins!
And that pair was known as the Arabian pair, whom Debbie Reynolds herself adored so much she became the owner. I'm so curious to know what happened to them after her passing 😭
@@cheuiniActually the Arabian test pair is different from the bugle bead pair. The bugle bead pair are the same shape as the movie version just minus bows and, of course, using bugle beads. They were never found post production.
I found this channel a couple weeks ago and I am truly Amazed at the beautiful designs she comes up with Alexandra if you are reading this you are fantastic!
Always love seeing your kitty helpers. So cute! The shoes are gorgeous. I think every costume version I've seen have been glitter. The sequins look so much better!
The shoes look great, good job. You could easily wear them anywhere, to be honest. I have had beaded dress shoes that I wore to weddings and semi formal parties. As long as you have a dress that they go with, you can wear them to anything.
I'm kind of suprised you didn't make a shoe cover from sequin fabric and attach it. that was my first thought. but honestly my way sounds like it could be more tricky. and yours came out great!
Actual the original Ruby Slipper were made out of silk sequin fabric, not sequin ribbons. That's why the edges of the sequins are clean attached to the shoe. FYI: Thanks to the new TECHNICOLOR filming at the time, the Ruby Slipper would not exist. The slipper were silver from the book. During the test shooting silver didn't look good in TECHNICOLOR. So MGM Studio changed the color of the silver slipper to ruby red.
Great job! I've been recreating the slippers as a hobby for years . I sew the sequins by hand and make my own rectangular rubies, use antique rhinestones, and occasionally find Era correct base shoes. Just seeing young people still attempting the recreation is thrilling! My first pair was hideous, so continue keeping the shoes ALIVE !
The completed recreation was beautiful and spot on! Also a big thank you for this video. As big as my feet are it's not easy finding a shoe that's the color or style so this is a great alternative method to make my own pair of dream shoes to go with a costume.
THIS IS SOOO COOL!! it honestly fills ME with so much joy!! i love the film and i would buy the ones they had at walmart to go w my dorothy dress for halloween (i was her at least twice as a child) ANYWAYS THEYRE AMAZING!! WAY TO GO!!
Great Job you did. Awesome, So Sweet. Congratulations on the Completion of The Ruby Slippers and Showing How You Did it. A+. I just Subscribed To Your Channel. Have a Great Day. Love Your Cat, Awesome Helper.😀😃Also Toto is Great. Craft and Sew On.
Congratulations! Your Ruby Slippers are beautiful. You did a great job. I think you did a good job with your research, did you know the Smithsonian just spent over a year, restoring the pair they own, and you can see parts of the restoation on You Tube. The sequins are in bias rows around the shoes, whitch gives more round shape to the look. There is nothing wrong with using glue, you just have to be careful not to get glue everywhere. Who has time to sew each sequin one at a time? The fact you can wear yours is an added bouns. By the way, your sewing skills are amazing!
it would be nice if these sequins were the ones that change color when passed, the other color would be silver to be the book version and the movie version
Gonna be honest, when I saw the DIY on this video, I thought you were about to go all the way old school with it and hand sew each sequin onto it! I think gluing would make the process go a lot faster so I see why you did it that way.
I was obsessed with this movie as a child, I had the dress, the ruby slippers (red sparkly shoes), the basket and Toto I wouldn't just watch this movie I would act this movie
The shoes came together really well. I like what you did with round gems on the bows. I've never been partial to square-shaped stones so the round ones really appeal to me. What brand and color of paint did you use on the shoes?
The sequins material from the picture, where very delicate either electroplated gelatin or from a material that was invented by Kodak, that is why yours wouldn’t be the same since they’re made from plastic (invented in the 1960’s) so don’t worry, that in part why there’s several pairs because the materials where very delicate, at the smithsonian, they restored them and the had to crowdfund the task because it cost to the tune of 3 million usd, they cleaned each sequins or rhinestone very carefully, no water, btw I love what you did

@@BaileyWhite-l9oI was so obsessed with the Wizard of Oz I know every lyrics in every song in the movie🩵
I was a costumer for a local theater that did Wizard of Oz, I use sequined knit fabric and used fabric glue. It worked great
1930’s shoe shapes are so unique and you did a great job! Now I can see why they were so magical❤️❤️❤️ Now to try not to make my own😅
Totally thinking about making some now too 🥰

Yes, I showed the blueprints in the video :))
I would love to see the Dorothy dress as a ballgown
Ooh, yes
Fantastic idea!
That would be interesting

I love the Wizard of Oz,and was hoping someone would do a tutorial of how to make a pair ruby slippers, you did a very good job thank you so much💖
You should be proud, you did an amazing job. I’ve been a costumer for many years and think your ruby slippers are excellent.
A great homage to a wonderful story and movie. Congratulations!!!
Yes Dorthy!!!!
Edit: sending this to my BFF! She loves Dorthy!

They turned off Beautiful Honey. Great job 🥳🎉👏🏼🥳🎉👏🏼🥳🎉👏🏼🥳🎉👏🏼
I like them they're cute, and they are very close. Seeing them with the Dorothy dress (or a ball gown) would be awesome!
That took time and patience, and you did a great job! 👍🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

You did an amazing job, they look fantastic ❤️🇦🇺
Great job! Very nice resuly❤
I own a pair of ruby "slippers" but flats not heels..
I love them so much.
Fun Fact: In the book version of Dorothy's slippers were silver.
I remember in the early 1980s sequined high heels were fashionable. I saw a lot of red ones in stores.
Love Oz more than any thing. I made the shoes for me. Love that movie
I was thinking that Shoe Goo might be a good option for attaching the sequins.
Great work!
These came out awesome!
These are amazing!!
I love those red slippers
The shoes brand company:wait ...that's illegal ..
Lol your dress are all so beautiful ❤️I love em
So clever!!
I need to make these!!!
You would make a great Dorothy!
I think that you make them better than the original ones
AWESOME job. wow.
Nice job! Though if I may I think on the og shoes they added some thick pads on the toe section ad to me they look a bit lower than the og shoes
I should make the shoes to decorate my room
Amazing Job!
my wizard of oz obsession from 2nd grade is coming back
