I was able to get a pair from the local Tesla dealer that had some connections. I used them to go uphill at a ski resort and the patrol kicked me off the mountain because they said I was a hazard and needed a lift ticket. Did some backcountry skiing, which worked well on well settled snow, but they bog down in any kind of soft snow and will only climb a low intermediate level slope. Packed snowmobile track on a road works great.
Ive been saying we need these for years so we dont have to give vail all our money to use their lifts. This is the first step to dissassembling the vail empire and bring back ski culture good job J ski ;)
Just found the spec sheet online. Each ski has 20 micro motors embedded in the P-Tex base. The white top sheet is a semi-hardened solar collector with a new Tesla invention that directs captured charge into battery that runs under the collector sheet. As the ski travels down a slope the micro motors switch to generator mode to recharge the battery.
@@Jskis Sorry. There was a grey watermark on the sheet of COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL on the specs I saw. I see that at times on docs so did not think much of it. It was pulled when I went to look at it again. I think someone goofed. Thank you for the demonstration.
Yeah, sounds good, but in Germany they'll need to build in brake lights, a safety belt, headlamps and two independent brake systems, at least one of them to be mechanical. Last but not least, you're supposed to fix a license plate at the heel bindings.
We had those in the1970,s but the car batteries in a backpack were tough to balance with. I found if you wore Astral Tunes on your front, it sort of balanced out!!
I call demo dibs! 😂 Happy April fools! I need these though cause we are in government camp OR on Mt Hood for Spring break and i want to ski Multapor Ski Bowl 1 block away tonight!
Wow. This is absolutely incredible... Well done. Im dead rn - good luck to those who watch this past a certain day - im waiting for this to go viral later 🤣
The skis are great. The only problem I had with them - they wouldn't connect to a charger at the alpine hut where I stayed and they run out of juice every time i try to ride uphill. I have to carry them up, and they are freaking heavy.
If this were a real product, I'd 100% buy it, just the practicality of actually engineering something like this to work seems a little impossible without making the skis extremely bulky and 20 pounds heavier. Would it be something like a paddle or a track that the motor spins? and how do you make the motor actually grip into the snow?
E-skis are about 50% heavier than their analog siblings. Honestly way lighter than expected but still a learning curve. The electric motors spin small propellers that give you the thrust to go forwards
Oh~~~~, that's amazing. The placement of the motor and battery seems to have been well placed considering the swing weight. What is the power of the motor?
It's more about vertical gain than mileage. We're seeing around 6-7k of vert on a full charge, plus the batteries regenerate at downhill speeds so it's virtually unlimited once you get out there.
It works with batteries integrated under your boots, pressure sensors in front of the bindings and highly efficient motors for propellers at the tail of the ski! You can find all the details on jskis.com
The concept of e skis and snowboards is not novel. They'll never be useful anywhere except groomed slopes and low angle terrain. We back country purists will never need to worry about these things catching us on the skin track the way ebikes do on the trails.
I've had tons of great backcountry laps on them this season! Sure, they'll never pull you up something that requires bootpacking, but I guarantee anything you can skin up these will be at least twice as fast.
This is yet another device for people who aren't fit enough to climb mountains. They'll be helpless and need to be rescued when they break down or the battery dies, same as with ebikes. This fat country needs to end its addiction to motorized everything and get in shape.
We've done the environmental studies, even with the cobalt needed these before more eco friendly than riding the chairlift after 100k of vert, which is about 1/2 the season for the average skier
We're not able to release any details yet because we are waiting for patent approval. The electric market is extremely competitive and we can't take any chances of a different brand copying us
I’m calling BS unless you show me the bottom side of the skis as well. Total April Fools joke. Some nice CGI editing to remove the green rope pulling you along.😊
People really didn't understand April fools. It's intended to fool fools. Like sending someone to the store to get macaroni plants. I mean come on, you should know better. Fooling someone into thinking a motor could be attached to a ski and move you forward on a flat, snow covered surface isn't that far fetched. Then consider the video is still up days later and you aren't thinking about April fools, because it's not.... Just annoying.
Looking forward for the ski supercharger at Mad River
We we're thinking turbo first since the cold weather would really aid in building boost!
😂 "building boost" for something electric

Nice touch with the electric servo audio dub!
Yup we used all natural sounds while filming for the final edit!
I know the first thing I would do with a one of a kind prototype ski would be to shred through a dirty parking lot!
Gotta test in all environments... no more walking from your car to the mountain!
It's easy when you don't pay for them.
Holy smokes, in a parking lot. I’ve seen idiots ruin skis that way

Beautiful. Bravooooo!!!
Oh~~~~, that's amazing.
The placement of the motor and battery seems to have been well placed considering the swing weight.
What is the power of the motor?
around 80KW at 5000rpm but we tuned it down a bit so it wasn't so aggressive
I dunno, I'm skeptical, what's the range? I don't plan to take poles with me and don't want to get stuck on the flats.
I mean, I guess I could just call ski patrol and get airlifted out so would just probably do that regardless cuz these are sick
