i was nervous about transitioning from an ABA center to a middle school with my daughter... my advice would be to really be specific with her needs.. our first year was not great but this year has been PHENOMENAL!
David, THANK YOU for wearing that hat and supporting women’s professional sports! THAT is the way to start closing the gender salary cap- buy LICENSED merch from the venue is the best and most importantly, buy tickets people!!!!!
Yes! The more people supporting women’s sports the better. Go to the games and get some merch! We love going to PWHL games. Braylee seems to be liking basketball a little now. Time for WNBA games too!
i love it when braylee is happy. i don't like it when she is sad. it makes me sad too. but i love it when she giggles and is all happy. a smile is better than a frown
The middle school transition for me happened at 7th grade. That is an awkward enough age but add that change to school and it really did cause some anxiety. I think doing it at 6th grade may be a little easier but I can understand why it would make you as parents anxious. I believe Braylee will be fine, especially because you are preparing her for it well in advance. Come on, Stacey, do a Coffee with David for us, we would love it!
Wow. Middle school. I subscribed during the ABA years in your old house. Maybe Braylee was @6? Anyway, i found with my sons transition to middle school to just advocate and then advocate some more. Braylee, you aced grade school! Way to go!!
I think it was probably a good thing for you & Braylee to be at that meeting, even if the majority of information didn't directly apply to her. Was it held at her new school or her current school? If it was at the new school, it's just an extra opportunity for her to get comfortable with the space. I can also guarantee that many students who don't already know her would have noticed her, and having that introduction is a good thing
We had the big meeting too with our daughter's teacher, resource teacher and EA present. We don't have middle School per say, but our daughter will be Moving from her Montessori grade 1-3 together and is now moving to grade 4, so she will be in grade 4-6 and they determined she's reading and doing well and see no need to hold her back. Socially she is better with the grade 1-3s but maybe being around older kids, she will model some of their positive behaviours. Ack my mom heart is worried. Good luck to B. :)
Where I live in Ontario Canada we don't have middle school. It's a small town so we went to one school for grades Kindergarten to grade 8. High school is grade 9-12. I think in the big cities there are middle schools because there are so many more kids.
The smaller towns around mine did that when I started middle school, and I really envied them. The same building and teachers would've helped, it was too much change too fast.
Middle school was hard for me, other kids ignored me or made fun just like kids do. But I had my friends from my last school and they always took me with them. Will B's friends be at her new school too? 🖖🏻
Braylee is the prettiest little girl, beautiful eyes❤️❤️❤️
