  • In this video I talk about circular breathing. This isn't a technique I'm great at because, frankly, I've never really had to use it. But hopefully you get the general principles.

    I'm an alto sax player of four years and I'm working on my circular breathing for some exercises in the W. Ferling book. To practice, I've found it helpful to breathe through a straw into a glass of water, so you can see the air going out of your mouth while breathing in and maintaining a constant flow of air.

    how long did this take you to learn? I've heard of it for a while, but never figured it out, or anything

      Maybe it depends of the instrument you are learning on. I play didgeridoo and it took me about a week or so

    I haven't tried it, but i bet circular breathing would work excellently on long passages of offbeats for horn

    Is there a different procedure for cleaning/polishing laquered brass instruments as opposed to silver plated? I don't want to do anything that would damage my tuba.

    If you were to do a full run through of the Carnival of Venice, would you say it would be easier to do with circular breathing or “regular” breathing.

    I am a trombone player that has been playing for about 3 to 4 years. I use a trombone that my aunt used when she was a kid. So it's really old and falling apart. I plan on playing through highschool and maybe college and i am probably going to get a better trombone. My question is should I get a trigger trombone? Is it worth it?

    • @alexk.5441
      @alexk.5441 8 лет назад

      Hey! I've played for 3 years, and have learned that trigger trombones are really, really helpful. They usually help improve tone, give you access to unreachable notes and generally make the instrument more playable. I'd look for a used Yamaha, maybe a YSL- 448g. My friend has one, and for the price you simply cannot compete with Yamaha's craftsmanship and playability.

    Hey Trent, I've stumbled upon your videos and there very interesting to me! I play trumpet in our band, we just got done with our contest and judging and one piece we played is called arabesque and is a college piece and we got a 37/40. A professor wants is to play with his college students, this is even more crazy that we are a 9-12th grade band! ps I'm in 9th grade

  • @MrInitialMan

    It's practically impossible to do this on the recorder,, it seems.

    • @jadewolf3094
      @jadewolf3094 7 лет назад +4

      really it seems like it would be easy to do it on the recorder

    • @MrInitialMan
      @MrInitialMan 7 лет назад +4

      There is virtually no air resistance on the recorder, which means breath control is paramount. Any reservoir or air you built out would quickly rush out the recorder.

    • @JoCE2305
      @JoCE2305 6 лет назад

      MrInitialMan Didmt think of that. It would make horrible noise as all that air flies out.

    I forget what a semi-quaver is. Is it an eighth note? A sixteenth note? I am American so we use fractions to describe note lengths.

      +Brett Roberts There are very few solid rules in brass playing. If this particular technique works for you then I say go for it.

      I'm looking for a piccolo trumpet an I've seen a lot of very cheap (£40-100) on eBay which say from India. Do your cheap instruments work?, I just would play my picc for fun but I play cornet in a band and I'm quite good

    But I thought you couldn't puff your cheeks on trumpet. Also when I breath in my nose my cheek muscles tighten.

    • @oskarpersson3468
      @oskarpersson3468 8 лет назад +10

      +Little Jon You don't really exhale and inhale at the same time.
      You puff your cheeks to store air in them and then pushes out the air with your cheek muscles. While you push the air out you inhale through your nose, hopefully a good amount of air to keep playing.
      Hope this helps.

      Just keep air in your cheeks and once you blow the air through your cheeks inhale through your nose

    "Circular Breathing" now seems very misleading - knew that it existed, but legitimately thought it was actively breathing in through your nose while exhaling through your mouth, lol
