Dave , excellent vid and my only comment is manufacturers fail dismally for the Aussie market (small in the global market), however their failures is great for businesses like yours. Im ready to book my LC200 for max increase for wagon to overcome the poor gvm of 3350 which I have already exceeded adding a few accessories building a tourer!
Hi Dave. Great info extending on the 4x4DNA fb post last week. For the 300kg it should only be 120kg over the 180kg so rear axle should be 2150kg not 2330kg. And now I'm in trouble because I did math outside of work hours... In terms of taking the weight off the van - isn't the towball weight still part of the van weight so saying the total van weight comes down wouldn't be completely accurate, particularly on the lower end of the gvm upgrades. If you have a 3.5t van and 300kg towball weight, doesn't that 300kg count towards the vehicle weight? (Given the 300kg then counts towards the weight taken by the vehicle - the van itself weighs 3.5t in total still, it's just distributed across both van and car axles). You can't exactly chuck a 585kg towball weight on the 4085kg gvm upgrade to that one would definitely reduce the max van weight.
In your video you suggest that you can tow a 3.5t van with a stock y62. This assumes that you don’t have any towball down load. The GVM upgrade is to allow you to have a 3.5t car (unhitched) and a 3.5t caravan (unhitched) and the GVM would cover the ~350kg towball down load. Is this correct?
Great info explained in Layman's terms which has helped me a lot Dave. Just took possession of new Patrol TI - L and towing a 3500kg van as is, but need to get GVM upgrade. Based in VIC near airport, can you recommend the best place to go to get this done in VIC please. Much appreciated. Denis
Great video Dave, however I got a little lost at the end, are you saying the larger the gvm upgrade you go the less you can tow.. I’m sure I have completely miss understood? Cheers
Right sorry, got it your suggesting you need to add the weight to the car. As your gcm doesn’t change even if the gvm is upgraded. Kind of counter intuitive, is it possible to do a gcm upgrade out of a matter of interest? Cheers
Hi, thanks for the info across all your vids. Not that I watched them all but getting there. Just wondering, can you recommend somewhere in Newcastle NSW for 180 GVM and also for the ARB compressor install for the rear quarter as you guys do it?
Hi Mate. We have been speaking with Sharon at your office and she has given us 2 options for a gvm upgrade. I have watched most of your videos regarding this and am still trying to get my head around the fact the higher the upgrade the lesser amount is achievable when towing? For instance gcm 7000- 585 upgrade - gvm 3400 is only 3015kg. The lotus caravan we have on order has a tare of 3007kg approx what is the best option in my scenario with this y62 s5 ti dilemma I have as it is kitted out with most bells and whistles on 295/70/18 34.3s. Will appreciate some direction before I place an order. Thanks Paul
Thanks Dave for great post as i live in Mandurah it is not practical to come to SA for 180 GVM upgrade Do you have a WA agent or someone over here you recommend
does on track cover all warranty if Nissan wont? nissan say 3680 is max with that 180kg upgrade, but with the 300kg wont that be over Nissans limits. or will nissan still give warranty with the added after market parts??
Hey Dave what is the rear axle limit stock? I keep reading on forums its 2030kg without any mods. And what you are calling your 300kg upgrade is really a 480kg? 300+180 right? As whenever I hear 300kg upgrades, I think a split of 180kg front and 120kg.
@@DASHOffRoad hey sorry i meant at tare where do the weights sit, not the maximum from factory. Ive seen with half a tank of fuel and a tow bar one person already the front is 1500kg front, 1400 rear weights. Sound about right?
Great information David, so with the 2”lift you did including the rear spring upgrade to my Y62 with your Dash springs would that give me the 180kg gvm upgrade, and if so can you provide the engineering certificate.
Gday David,my van is 3.5T unhitched, car is ~3150kg and ball wt 350kg. Would the 180kg give me a bit of breathing space on the car and still satisfy GCM 7T?
Hi David, we are in vic, if we already have installed ontrack 2 inch lift springs (200kg) with airbags fitted can you provide an engineering certificate without bringing car to you for the 180kg gvm upgrade. Can you confirm cost? Or do we need to make a trip to SA to do it. Or any one in vic do it?
@@DASHOffRoad HI David. My question relates to this.. I have the OnTrack lift - front LCA plus rear springs. I'm not sure which springs I ended up with but I'm guessing the 200kg is pretty standard. Likewise at the front I know there are variations to the kit based on weight and again I don't know which was supplied but I'm guessing it would be toward the high end because I had a steel ARB full-hoop bar installed at the time. I understand the lift alone does not give me any certified GVM increase without engineer sign-off, but can you tell me, with these components what is my theoretical GVM increase, i.e. that which this setup could be potentially certified at? My guess is that the OnTrack front LCA gives me +100kg and the 200kg rear springs allow me full rear axle load, so front 1650kg + 100kg, rear 2030kg, total 3780kg for an increase of 280kg. sound reasonable?

So well explained, thank you David 👍🏼
Still a wealth of knowledge mate well done
My van fully loaded was 3.14, so the 180kg gvm upgrade will be sweet as a nut........as I thought.......cheers..
Thanks David, exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks mate! Awesome information as usual!

I think there is only one place in Vic, that’s OnTrack. Otherwise come see us at 4x4 DNA in Adelaide 😏
Great video Dave, however I got a little lost at the end, are you saying the larger the gvm upgrade you go the less you can tow.. I’m sure I have completely miss understood? Cheers
It’s because your 7t GCM doesn’t change, so if you add 4t to your car then your van can only weigh 3t etc.

@@aaronmorrissey2039 no you can’t with Patrol. Only GVM
You are correct, if you consume the weight in your gvm, it needs to be taken off what you tow

Rear axle is indeed limited to 2030 as standard. The video explains how a gvm upgrade is applied
Great video! Roughly how much is it to upgrade to 4085kg GVM?
Roughly, $14-15k
Does the $15k include the raslarr rear bar or is that on top?
Hey, do you know what the series 5 out of the factory is in terms of front and rear actual axle weights? Im sure there is a range.
It’s 1650kg front and 2030kg rear 😉
@@DASHOffRoad hey sorry i meant at tare where do the weights sit, not the maximum from factory. Ive seen with half a tank of fuel and a tow bar one person already the front is 1500kg front, 1400 rear weights. Sound about right?
Do any of the GVM upgrades require a higher weight rating on the tyres to pass engineering?
You touched on pre vs post rego modification (secondary manufacturer). Can you clarify the benefits of going either option?
I can’t say I have any experience with the pre rego gvm upgrades. DMW are the ones to talk to about that
Think you can avoid the luxury car tax because the vehicle can carry more than 1000kg and is classed as a commercial vehicle
Fantastic video 👌🏻

We need to get the back of your car down to a 2” lift then we can get the engineer in to sign off 😉
@@DASHOffRoad no problems will do, having to put the camper trailer weight on there to help since the off-road van is behind schedule.
So how do u get the 4.2 gvm upgrade?

Not really, you have both a gvm and GCM issue.
Hi David
What’s the cost for the 180kg upgrade.
Is the 300kg on top of the 180AGL so it becomes a 480kg upgrade???
Negative
Can you get the higher GVM upgrade in all states?
Yes
GCM stuff gets confusing quickly
Yeah yeah

For us to do it our engineer must site the vehicle, so you would have to bring it to SA.

Sorry…… my understanding is you can get a GCM upgrade but only if it’s done Pre rego with companies like DWN. I hope I’m right. Cheers
