I am crying like a child whenever I hear this. All these days I was thinking carnatic music is pure. The way the raga is elaborated slowly and delicately in Hindustani is really moving. And what punya have we Indians done to get such singers? Wish I could give off my life years to these people. As one of the enthusiasts said, this is verily the sound of creation. One who hears this is among the luckiest lot on earth. Wish Indians realise the beauty of our music and India continues to have such legendary singers.
well said, Even I was of the same impression that Carnatic music was pure..for me it was Pandit Venkatesh Kumar who opened the doors of Hindustani music a few yrs ago, Internet has given us this wonderful opportunity to dig into the gems of the past
How calmly they sit there and paint masterpieces on the air with their breath. Also, what powerful voices and such layered laykari. Puts me in awe. Salute, truly.
When I hear the respectful offerings of other listeners to such great singers,my ❤ heart fills with heavenly pleasure. It is really great to listen to such genius singers with like-minded listeners.
Vidushi Kishori Amonkar told me a few months before she passed away that she was the last of the classical singers of Hindustani music. i think by that she meant the people who sing with only their spiritual integrity in the heart and mind. Seeing this performance by Gangubaiji makes me understand... the audience does not seem very relevant.
My father and I heard and learnt a lot from our grandfather about Bidushi GANGUBAI HANGAL came to MAA KAMAKHYA TEMPLE here in GUWAHATI , Assam. He went to see the rendition of raaga performed by her in the court of the temple overnight. His friends were also seen the program and resolved themselves lucky to have a chance to see from near. Those days only AIR was the only media that to for listening only. ARUN CHANDRA DEKA and his son Saurav Deka.
After I first heard her Abhogi I was so attracted that I went to meet her at Dharwar in 2005 when she was seriously ill after demise of Krishna. She told me how much she was praised, but still she was crying because her mother wanted her to take Karnatak music. She was consoled by K.L. Sagal......
I attempted to listen many Yaman renditions just now, except for Pt Mansur I liked this one, of course I admire her greatly and most importantly the Tabla must be Pt Sheshgiri Hangal ji, after 25 years I got to listen to this most classical style of Tabla accompaniment....thanks a lot
Gangu bai jangal one of the greatest exponents of kirana gharana her daughter also great singer I have heard raag yamuna sung by other hindustani music singers of other gharanas but the real depth of raag yamun can be. Found only in gangu bais singing the adage is true Kallu Sakkere Savi Ballavare Ballaru Meaning the sweetness of white jaggery is known only to the person who has tasted and enjoyed it my respects and naman to gangu bai who is now with the lord
No doubt yaman is outstanding. Gangubai & Krishna Hangal had given a great depth to raag Yaman. But we should agree that Tabla has no role to play in Kirana Gharana. It's just Theka that matters with some sort of Tukde for variation
@brahmaguptapatil4552 yes and that's what matters only..! Cause here what important is singing not tabala..! Where there will be solo of tabala..then that kind of variations would be suitable it that context..! Not here..! Here only pure raga is there..! & That's what is important to be cherished..!
Lakh Salam Mother and daughter of Motherland India .. The pious land of my parents who had to migrate cos of British conspiracy of Divide. But they couldn't divide our divine music and culture Lakh Salam to Great icons of kirana gharana
I had great opportunity to attend almost all the sangeet kacherees of great legend of hindustani music Smt Gangubhai hangal and her daughter Krishna hangal at Gandhibhavan, K U D campus in 1960-70 while i was doing my M Sc.Listening to their music, gave me mental strength, committed and confidence in my capability with which i could secure a rank to the university.Indeed music has such a strength.Even now these days linger long in my memory.
Is this some different kind of Yaman ? I am an ordinary listener. To me it sounds like Multani. ( Prem seva sharan ). Please explain. I know Yaman of ‘ Nath ha maza.
Ahahaha... Such a wonderful presentation of Yaman. A pure form of kirana. Her Aalapi is really just defining her dedication towards the Raga and her Gharana . Superb. Thanks a lot for sharing.
I have always wanted to go meet Smt. Gangubai (Dharwad is near to my ancestral home). Till today I can't forgive myself for not having made time to go meet her.
Present day Singers must learn the Simplicity from These Stalwarts.. Today there are more Gimmicks, loads of make up, jewelry, chamcham dressing, stage full of lighting decorations.... But No Divinity Nothing Sublime what we are seeing n experiencing here... Blessed are those who saw n experienced Purity! ❤😇🙏🙏🙏
The combination of sarangi and Gangubai Hanal's voice is fantastic. You can see the instrumentalist at 6:01, briefly. It is wonderful to see these performances perserved!
Prahlad V. Deshpande sir there's an interview of Vidushi Gangubai Hangal in Kannada by Dooradarshan. Here, she herself mentions Krishna Hangal as her "daughter" while admiring her singing
I heard a name of a renowned vocalist Bidushi GANGUBAI HANGAL from Dharwad India. You favour me to listen to her singing clearly loud voice. So popular a name in Indian classical music history. Thanks for uploading for us.
Both mother and daughter are astounding artists sheer magicians creating an atmosphere of Total Bliss , why do I get the feeling that there’s a great similarity their style is similar to pandit Bhimsen Joshi’s style, splendid Alaps and Laykari , I’ve fortunately stumbled on to this Gem , I’m totally mesmerised, thank you so much for your discovery and upload , Mashallah Marhaba.
Both are disciples of Rambhau Kundagolkar aka Sawai Gandharva. They learnt together under him in Kundgol for several years so some similarity is inevitable. However Bhimsen Joshi went well outside the Sawai Gandharva mould and assimilated other styles while Gangubai Hangal stayed true to her Guru. Both were great artists in their own way.
Gangu bai one of the greatest hindustani singers she is the gem in the crown of raja rajeshwari mother karnataka know my head to this saraswati one of the best rubies karnataka and bharwad school of hindustani kirana gharana produced great

The Indian TV began public broadcasts only in early 70s and music programmes starting mid 70s. Also from what I remember of her live concerts from those days she did not look too old.
Found to be performed with spiritual integrity from the core of her heart the YAMAN the raaga praying for Lord Sri Krishna by Radha RADHIKA with her sakhi saheli at Gakul Brindaban , a very very old Indian raaga sung from the age of Rishi Muni vedas and the srutis of very ancient times.
The others at par to her are only, MSSubbalakshmi amma and DKPattammal amma. These three women are three Everest peaks, India is having, with their rich music.
She is from Karnataka, a Kannaditi all her life. She was among the Pancha Ratnas of Hindustani vocal music from Dharwad, along with Bhmsen Joshi, Mallikarjun Mansur, Basavaraj Rajguru and Kumar Gandharva.
Further gibberish posted by Mr Shinde has been removed. They are not just ignorant but downright stupid. This is not the place for narrow minded parochial posturing.
Late 70's? I would have thought earlier given that Gangubai Hangal was born in 1913, and in the film doesn't look like she is in her mid-60's... But perhaps she was just young-looking for her age. And Krishna Hangai could well be 40-ish there, so I guess you're right.
Those, who clicked on the 'thumb down' on hearing this recording, were either, no doubt, sired by beasts with no sensibility for good music. or by accident. The painstaking labour and hours of 'riyaz' by one to master the nuances of a raag with its notes, taal and layakari and other aspects under the guidance of a maestro cannot be assessed so easily by listeners sitting in a concert or listening to the recordings in a bedroom.

I was one of the lucky ones to have her family as our family friends.
Lol what do you mean by that. Both has its merits my friend. Don't give out controversial statements

most sublime and haunting. mother&daughter are simply astounding . they are, according to me, get the first rank in melody, range and mastery
Indeed the purest form of yaman. A great pleasure indeed.
She "is" mentioned in the title as providing vocal support. Krishna Hangal was Gangubai Hangal's daughter and inseparable companion in her concerts.
After I first heard her Abhogi I was so attracted that I went to meet her at Dharwar in 2005 when she was seriously ill after demise of Krishna. She told me how much she was praised, but still she was crying because her mother wanted her to take Karnatak music. She was consoled by K.L. Sagal......
I'm lost in admiration I had to say it again. can´'t stop hearing!!!

Listen once again❤
How fortunate it must be for such a mother-daughter to take place. God, thanks for this listening.

The "other lady" is her daughter Krishna \. And probably they would have sang together for 50 years. That shows their coordination.
hwg20hwg just like ms subbulakshmi and his daughter radha
Satya Narayana 'her'
Krishna is her sister, not daughter
Prahlad V. Deshpande you're an idiot

I'm in love of Kirana gharana and this gangubai hangal, pandit Bhimsen Joshi are among those disciples who learned from Sawai Gandharva
Incredible gifted voice. Great personality from the Kirana Gharana tradition. God doesn't make them anymore :)
What a treat! Grateful thanks for sharing this.
Thank you for sharing this, brilliant piece. Gangubai was super. This recording must be at least 50 years back? Great stuff. Thanks again.

SUPERB PRESENTATION OF YAMAN. MESMERISING !

Yes it is a DD recording. Not sure of the year, late 70s considering how "young" the artists look and the fact that it is in black and white.
Right
Stupendous!!
Magnificent thank you for this video
magnifique merci pour cette vidéo
Genius !!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The others at par to her are only, MSSubbalakshmi amma and DKPattammal amma. These three women are three Everest peaks, India is having, with their rich music.
For all the lay people who do not understand classical singing. I have one explanation for them. This is the sound of creation itself.
Well Said
