    Love this. The effort required at 2 AM. The machinery. This is my favourite true life documentary from Matt by far

    Thank You. For not making this video like a face only zoom meeting! So good to see what is happening out and about.

      Thank you! It’s a challenge in some ways to put together a video like this. Especially when there are much more important priorities. I’ll do my best to create the moment whenever I can!

    I live in a tropical climate so I never see snow. This is pretty cool! 2 am is a tough wake up call, but I guess that the roads are safer that way. And I love to see the community cooperative effort to move the snow to a safer location. It seems a well organized effort with the snow blower.

      The amount of snow here, in snow country Japan, is very extreme. I’ve lived in US and Canada and while it gets storms there it just feels different here. And it’s ingrained in the culture. It seems to work well in Japan with everyone doing their best to ensure other people’s safety and comfort of living

    Wow the snow piles up so much! 😮

      It doesn’t usually look like this so early and the temperature is staying well below freezing so it’s not melting and compacting. It’s going to be a big year 😅

    Here in Sapporo we don’t have to clear at night when the plows come. We Just do it in the morning.

      Very fortunate! I actually don’t know if the community makes the decision with the preference, I wouldn’t be surprised. Each area has someone in charge 担当 and with the input of the community they make the decisions about things like snow clearing and trash pickup etc.

    I hate snow/cold but love snowblowing and clearing up after a storm. I clear our driveway and then a large section of the backyard for the dogs so they have lots of room.
    Does anyone ever give the plow driver coffee? Unlike most areas there seems to be teamwork between them and you.
    Knowing what you now know, would you have bought a corner lot?
    I’m very curious to how you clear the roof. Where do you throw it? A video, if it can be done safely, would be fun to watch.

    Who needs a gym when you have snow clearance! Wow, I feel sorry for the people who have to get up and go to work early after this. I remembear as a 5 yo back in 1963 we were snowed in down a small single track road in the wilds of the Surrey countryside and my dad dug a pathway about half a mile up to the main road. Unfortunately it snowed again in the night and it was filled in again by morning. I also have memories of deep snow in Germany where we lived for about 5 years continuously when my Dad was in the army. All great fun for us kids playing trekking through the arctic, sledging, snowball battles, making snow houses and snow men plus snow days away from school, but not so much fun for the grown ups. I do love snow but I'm glad I don't have to deal with it much where I live and I can stay home nice an cosy when it's icy out. I do have to negotiate ice in my road but it's only about 100 metres or so as there is a main bus route that goes past us and they keep the main roads clear (I live in town). And I do have be careful walking to my car as I have crutches but my neighers are really good keeping the shared pathways cleared.❤

    Are personal snow blowers not allowed?

    •  4 часа назад +2

      They are allowed and many use them. We have snow melters as well

      How is that perisble? Japanese law states differently.

    • @im.mattguy
      @im.mattguy  3 часа назад

      People use them, I’m holding out for now. My area to clear isn’t so big but I think this year’s snowfall is going to quickly make me change my parking to the rental garage. We could be getting another 8ft of snow over the next few days

      Every area in Japan works differently depending on the needs and agreements in the area. It needs flexibility to deal with the unique challenges

    I would think given the small area and amount of snow an electric snow-blower would be worth investing in.

    • @im.mattguy
      @im.mattguy  3 часа назад

      The electric ones don’t keep up well here, not in the town. I would need something with a lot more power and I’m enjoying the snow clearing plus avoiding that cost for a little longer. It might change this year though as we keep getting huge storms. 8ft in the way in the next few days
