Well, the FAB bombs are all old. VERY old (built post WW2). Designed as free falling bombs, as was usual back then, they've gotten "new life" by attaching steering mechanisms to them. The 9000 is the largest of these bombs, and (as evidenced in this video), utterly devastating. This weapon, the FOAB (Father of All Bombs) adds a thermobaric element on top of the already devastating explosive load. I imagine they must have needed a Backfire (Tupolev - 22), or maybe even the Blackjack (Tupolev - 160) to deliver this, it should be far too large for the SU-34's that Russia normally uses for their FAB deliveries.
The only "advantage" a "Thermobaric" bomb has over conventional explosives is that the weight of the oxidizers is removed and allows a larger charge. The US MOAB and MOP can produce the same effect, but they are not thermobaric. The problem is that either way, they both are huge and heavy, which makes them rather difficult to deploy other than in specific specialized situation.

My point being that the FOAB, MOAB, MOP are all big packages that limit what can deploy the weapon. As closing point, I seriously doubt that the FOAB produces a 44 Ton blast. The addition of aluminum increases the blast area about 10%, although it does increase the internal temperature of the blast. However, an 8 Ton blast is still one hell of a big bang.
