BREAKING: SHOHEI OHTANI SIGNS WITH DODGERS FOR $700,000,000

  • Per Jeff Passan: Shohei Ohtani's deal with the Dodgers is for 10 years and $700 million. Shohei Ohtani's contract has significant deferrals that include most of his salary -- an idea, a source said, that was Ohtani's. In deferring the money, it reduces the cost of the competitive-balance-tax hit and will allow the Dodgers to build a better team around him. The $700 million Shohei Ohtani will receive from the Los Angeles Dodgers is the largest guarantee in sports history 🤯

    Anyone who thought he was going anywhere but LAD was purely delusional. He doesn't even have to move his summer house and can catch the shortest flights back to Japan whenever he wants. He just wants to be on a winning team and this puts LAD as the top team in the NL, even over the Braves.

    As a Dodgers fan, yea it’s no secret I’m hyped for this.
    As a baseball fan, I understand why people would be angry about NY, Philly, LA getting all the biggest free agents, how small markets can’t compete, they need to add a salary cap but here’s my argument; don’t have the player, hate the game. Remember that whole fiasco after 2021 about the CBA agreement. That was baseball’s best chance to get all those restrictions in and no one would dare touch it. Even a salary floor was a dealbreaker. As long as baseball owners keep getting money and baseball players have no restrictions on how much they get paid, why in the world would they change anything?

    There should be a salary cap on baseball. The more the players cost the more the tickets cost. If there was a cap then you may be able to reach more people and keep growing the game of baseball. I'm all for players getting paid but why does a person "need" to make $30 million a year to play a game?

    Yes the one thing i agree about is ohtani was rushed to make this decision. I really do believe that was unfair but also, he had no choice to do so because when you are the #1 fa every team had to put their whole free agency on hold to see where he’s going. I wish ohtani had more time but i understand the rush. Now the rest of fa can go normally and teams know what they have to do now

    I think when a single player’s AAV is greater than that of other organizations in said league, I think that’s where I tap out. No way I can buy into the charade that this is a realistically competitive league anymore.

      @@premalone8267 It is, it just kinda makes me sick to my stomach to think about how 20 years ago small markets lost their homegrown guys to market forces but in return they got their first 5+ years of service but NOW, dude’s are valued at above the cost of entire rosters? How does that work? Seriously, how can the Guardians (if theoretically sold) be evaluated as being of greater value than Ohtani’s contract if their entire payroll is less his AAV? It represents either a disservice to the pay structure afforded to Guardians players, an abnegation of fiscal responsibility by LA, idk. It kinda reminds me of when bond yields fall over on each other causing collapses. The logic doesn’t match the market if you will.

    • @premalone8267
      @premalone8267 9 месяцев назад

      @@c.s.s.5326 hard to answer all of this because it’s so much.
      1. If your argument you’re using the Guardians for example. Did you the Dolan family is MLB 4th richest owner? If they seriously wanted to win they would go out and sign more players however much money it took. Don’t blame the players for accepting more money offered to them, blame the owners for being cheap and not wanted to spend. If your favorite team has bad owners. Don’t support them, go support a team that actually wants to win.
      2. The Dodgers aren’t paying Ohtani 70mil AAV, Passan reported that a MAJORITY of his contract will be deferred, ohtani purposely did this because he wants to win and chose to give the Dodgers more financial flexibility. As far as fiscal responsibility. They will receive far more than $700 Million just by simply having ohtani on his team. Ohtani is a god in Japan (just visited it’s insane how much he’s worshipped over there) they’re are going to receive so many sponsorships and merchandise sales just for having him on his team, nevermind what he brings to the field.
      If baseball wants to fix its problem make a hard salary floor cap for the cheap owners, it’s not fair to the fans and it’s not fair to the players who are the ones who bring in the revenue.

    The Angels Had It Coming. I Wouldn't Be Surprised If TROUT Leaves Too. $700 Mil Is Crazy Tho, Yet He Is In Cali So He Is Used To Having $ Taken From Him Due To Taxes. Ohtani Was My Dad's Favorite Player (R.I.P Dad) Because Ohtani Pitches & Bats Like Players Did Back When He Was A Youth. Peter Gruber (1 Of The Other WARRIORS Owners) Also Owns Stake In The DODGERS. From A GIANTS Fan This Is Normal For The DODGERS. They Have Always Signed Or Traded For Big Names Yet Failed To Ever Win A Championship In A 162 Game Season. Championship's Can't Be Bought.
