If you’re new here, I’m a professional gymnast… But today, a 3x National Champion cheerleader, @BrittHertz is turning me into a cheerleader for the day !!! I had an absolute blast learning all things cheer. I attempted a standing tumbling pass, some difficult jump combos, and even a cheer routine. As a retired cheerleader you did great! I know a lot of gymnasts who after they retire they do cheerleading to keep a sport for a few more years and you've TOTALLY got the right vibe and energy!

it's amazing to see all those sports have similar "exercises" but are just a tiny bit different. Gymnastics, cheerleading, parkour etc. You'd be great in cirque du soleil, they have a moving trampoline floor, incredible acrobatics.
I love how casual that first backflip was. I thought for a sec she wasn't even gonna make it halfway around, but then suddenly she was all there as if it was nothing at all.
Britt is just pure energy and enthusiasm in human form and I'm here for it

I cheered for YEARS. I went football to cheerleading in college.
The cool part about cheerleading is you can jump from other sports to cheerleading after college. I competed in Allstar cheerleading until I was almost 40. There’s still time.
You also can, you know, keep doing other sports.

Britt did gymnastics when she was younger. I think her dream at the time was to compete at the Olympics, but an ill-timed injury ended the dream. Of course, knowing what we know now about the kind of environment USA Gymnastics was at the time, I think that dream-ending injury was a blessing in disguise.

So, on the surface, the difference between cheerleading and gymnastics is that you have to do the jump splits more.
The handsprings and tumbling are like second nature to you. It would be cool to see how a far a distance you could do backflips. I saw a college cheerleader do 50+ yards.
Cheer there’s pyramids and you have to support the weight of whole humans, in addition to all the tumbling, there’s an entire dance section of the routine, plus the built in choreography.
Britt's energy reminds me so much of Molly Carlson (high diver)! Could totally see all 3 of you collabing

A herkie and a hurtler are totally different jumps. A herkie is like a half toe touch, with one leg bent and same side arm at the hips.

Gracie, you are an incredible athlete and you would be an amazing cheerleader, and those girls are awesome athletes, as well.
Like Coach Christopher Sommer likes to point out, an elite gymnast can fairly easily do high level [insert other physical discipline here], but it does NOT go the other way around the vast majority of the time.
