  • YOU DON'T NEED TO ASK PERMISSION! THERE ARE JOBS WAITING FOR YOU ON THE HIDDEN JOB MARKET THAT YOU CAN GET THROUGH SPECIFIC INDEPENDENT ACTION ON YOUR PART.
You are conditioned by the educational system to follow rules and not question procedures. However, this conditioning works against you when you become an adult and have to get a job - if nobody has told you what the procedure is, or no one has given you permission or approval to do something, you don't do it. This limits you since you could do many things that would be right for yourself, that lead to your success and prosperity, but instead you fall prey to serving the interests of other parties, since they are the only ones tell you to follow a procedure. It turns out it is THEIR procedure that serves them and not you, and therefore you've just been victimized and exploited.

There is a big difference between what you learn in business school, and what you need to know in the real world - just ask any startup founder or business owner! My goal is to focus on the real-world aspects of business, giving practical tips and tricks that are not usually covered in school.
This channel is a platform to help job seekers, entrepreneurs and business owners succeed. It is also to help the world at large to be more effective and successful in their careers. The world can certainly use more inspiring leaders, more successful entrepreneurs, more employed job seekers, and more capable managers - that is what I would like to help bring about.
    Who Am I?
I am a practicing management consultant, former CEO, and entrepreneur. I have led many businesses to success, as well as several startups. Among other things, I have an engineering degree, and a master's degree in finance.
I have worked across five industries, and have worked in both large enterprise and small businesses. I have also mentored startup founders and teach business and HR at a post-graduate level.
Why I Want To Involve My Community:
The only way this channel will succeed is with YOUR help. In order to know how best to proceed, I need constant feedback from YOU. What topics should I cover? What challenges are you facing? What questions do you have? What changes should I make?
Thank you for being here and reading this, best of luck, and have yourself an amazing day!

My teachers hated me and I hated school because I questioned everything.
To this day (I'm 56 now) I have never really conformed to society unless it makes sense to.
For the record I am now semi retired, fully own my own home on 4 acres, have no debts and have been happily married for 33 years. And I have never continued to do any job I on balance dislike.

I'm a few years older than you but we've had similar lives it sounds. I was lucky, I had some teachers both in high school and college that encouraged me to question and do things my way, even if that ruffled some feathers. One prof's favorite saying was "sacred cows make the best hamburger". He was a character right out of a movie. You'd see him roller skating from the lab building to the classrooms, wearing bright blue coveralls and a hard hat with a flashing yellow light on top he made after he almost got ran over by a car a couple years earlier. He lived life on his terms.

I know what you mean man. I was relentlessly bullied and pressured by my family, peers, and educators to do what they instructed and approved of; well into the workforce mind you.
The funny thing is that I am by far the most successful person in my entire family; married, home, children. Yet they still thumb their nose as me because I didn't listen to their wisdom lol

I think your description of the school system is spot-on. I worked as a paraeducator for two years (one at the elementary level, one at a high school working with special needs students), and the size of classes really does put teachers in a position where they need students to be quiet and obedient. At the elementary level, it's a safety issue. Little kids aren't great at controlling their bodies or emotions, and if things get too chaotic in a classroom with 25-35 kids, they can hurt themselves or their peers. At the high school level, you have kids rotation between 6 different 55-minute classes, and teachers need things to go smoothly if they're going to fit their entire lesson plan into that slot. Kids who ask too many questions or create distractions throw off that rhythm and can put the whole class behind. The emphasis on conformity isn't great for the kids, but teachers have a lot of pressure on them to keep things moving along smoothly.
I think a lot of the problems with the factory-style education system could be fixed by either having smaller class sizes or by alternating between large group sessions and small break-out groups or even by allowing more self-directed study with teachers available for assistance and check-ins. Of course, any significant reform to the public school system would require a lot of research and resources, and education is underfunded as it is.

HR curates who gets hired....for a job HR has never done....with people that HR has never worked with in-house....so HR makes offers to people that HR thinks are great but that doesn't necessarily mean they are actually good candidates for the job.

HR gets told who to hire by executives in operational departments in a company. In most companies, the HR executive vice president is an expendable afterthought. Do you really think HR hires engineers in an engineering company? How about pilots in an airline?

They are better off without an HR department.

Another point: 100% the kid who is GUARANTEED to speak up is the delinquent. When the kids see this peer with zero respect for anyone, especially themselves, being the only one acting independently, they reach a false conclusion. "Only bad, unemployable, unlikable people color outside the lines" and while this is completely wrong, it's played out in every classroom thousands of times. Like you said, schools don't have to be malicious or doing this intentionally, it's just something that happens due to circumstances.

So basically, since IO failed school, I actually won! I am self educated, failed school, and can survive at the age of 60. I need to repeat this. I never graduated from school. I left early with a GED, and had no passion for anything 'school'. And here I am, 60, own a house, and my children are grown up and moved out. Thanks for making me realize I was right all along, and never fell for the trap.

I'm in government, and (in Australia at least) you can transfer easily to another government job at the same level (because we have standardised pay levels, its called Section 26), but they can't give you a promotion unless you apply for an advertised position. And they're not allowed to take into account anything they may already know about you. They have to declare if they know you already.
In the private sector of course, it's completely different.

I make clear two things are not to be conflated with-schooling and education. When schools fail me and many free thinkers and outlaw anything outside the box, it’s warring against rebellion disruption innovation. I took my education upon myself since high school. Sports forged my discipline and arts made me articulate. My self teaching showed me the world in the way schools never will and I might be disadvantaged by popular standard in workplaces where pedigree is prevalent, but I took this time to learn about myself and make something possible to serve needs people have long been having. My Econ degree played a somewhat negative role in finances “, learning skills and ideas that matter. Hope more people will recognize the immense value in thinking for themselves even if it ostracizes them isolates them temporarily. Just you wait, I assure you you will be thankful who you made yourself become before AI does. More people to this movement. Don’t normally write this long a comment 🎉

And that's one big reason why at the software companies I worked at we always loved to hire farm kids, people who had a background working with cars, etc. In short, people that knew how to find and fix problems and weren't going to sit around waiting for someone to hold their hand or wipe their ... nose. I'll take someone like that over a 4.0 GPA any day. And thinking on it, I never in my career looked at a posted job. My first job the company had a friend in the registrar's office at the university and they got my transcript and gave me a call. And every job from there on was based on word of mouth and my reputation. It's not only good to hire people that are motivated, it's good to be such a person ;)
