I live in a small country village in Bradford, Illinois. I prepare all the time for bad times. I preserve, vacuum seal, dehydrate, waterbath canning and pressure canning. My mindset is to make sure I can survive, when it gets bad.

My response to the reaction is “not scared -just prepared”

My father moved us to the country to homestead in the 70's due to his mental health issues. I have a friend from the UK whose father also went into homesteading due to a mental illness. You can't escape from your mental health issues. I do think being prepared did help him feel calm, but the local community in my town tended to be fear mongering making the situation worse. At that time people were saying we were going to be tattooed with bar codes and there was a lot of devil worshiping nonsense. I wish DBT (dialectical behavior therapy) was more available to everyone. It does help. I think if it had been available for my father maybe he would not have become a homeless person.
