It's a really simple scene but probably my favorite in the movie. Hearing Wes Anderson nonchalantly describe the impossible scifi stuff the kids did as "some good work" is hilarious.
"My father went off to fight in a war that was the end of all wars-it didn’t. What was left of him arrived in a pine box with a flag on top." How in the world one can condense so much complicated history into a few simple but incredibly accurate sentances just blows my mind. Also Jeffrey Wright is a BOSS.
If you think about how Wright's character is moved by the children's innovations, the more you think about theme of celebrating the importance of art. This is a beautifully done scene in all aspects. You can even feel the emotions that Wright brought to this.
There is something devastating about taking the entirety of a persons childhood and cramming it into a few incomplete sentences, reading it rapid fire, and capping it off with "that was life." Something utterly and impossibly devastating. This is beautiful beyond words. I cried my eyes out the first time I saw this poem. I watched it back the next day with my roommate and fell to pieces all over again. Chills.
I've enjoyed seeing Jeffrey Wright in several shows and movies the last 10-15 years and seeing his performance in this scene on a big movie screen was simply arresting.
Incredible writing by Wes Anderson and perfectly balanced scoring by Alexandre Desplat captivated me throughout. There was a particular line that resonated deeply: "I am not a scientist, you are. End of Chapter 3." This film was a delightful blend of fun and whimsy, leaving me eagerly anticipating Wes Anderson's next creative endeavor. I always wished that he was able to make a movie with Godard, it would have been a creative masterpiece.
I've always been a casual fan of both Wes Anderson and Jeffrey Wright, but it is only after they started collaborating that I've fully started appreciating both of them. They complement each other's magic, if that even makes sense.
Teenager: Creates a small and portable device that contains light more powerful than the sun which it projects 4000km away onto about 1000km of the moon's face. Wes: Quite impressive...

Yeah, I love his sense of humour. Projecting something onto the moon sure is some good work

That my friend is Art!
anyone feel somewhat mesmeric in the way he does the speech? The speed and its rhyme are kind of mesmerizing for me.
I agree, it really was mesmeric

It’s about how art and life mean nothing.
I really enjoyed this movie but it left me scratching my head in the best possible way. Need to see it again.

I firmly believe that Anderson is a genius and that his movies are art of the highest order. I just don't like them.
Can’t wait to see this
