    Description: A brief look into the rules of All Flesh Must be Eaten, which uses the Unisystem ruleset.
    All Flesh Must Be Eaten or AFMBE is a multiple Origins Award winning and nominated survival horror role-playing game (RPG) produced by Eden Studios, Inc. using the Unisystem game system. AFMBE is derived from the traditional horror movie depictions of zombies who rise from the dead as mindless monsters that consume the living. In addition to producing a revised edition and many RPG supplements, there have been many works of fiction published that take place in one of the game's many settings.
    AFMBE is one of the first RPGs to focus on zombies as the main aspect of survival horror. While other games do have zombies, AFMBE was the first to make them central. AFMBE was also the first new Unisystem game produced by Eden under their exclusive licenses of the Unisystem game.
    The main rule book details character creation, skills, qualities (positive characteristics), drawbacks (negative characteristics), zombie creation rules, character archetypes and several campaign settings (called "Deadworlds" in the jargon of the game). The game has a large following and several expansion books.

      Brilliant.
      I'd always wondered how it held up for campaign play as the game seemed more suited to one shots, so great to hear that it does.

    EDIT: Yeah multiple characters with the Fast Reaction Time quality make initiative tricky

      I love AFMBE, because it really catches that 1980's horror movie vibe, with the cheerleader, sports jock and geek fighting for their lives together. A zombie version of Red Dawn, or the Breakfast Club.

      Have to point this comment out to my FLGS store owner. He's been one of the main guys behind the scenes at both New Millenium Entertainment and Eden Studios, and helped write, lay out, and edit this book as well as doing some of the art IIRC. Didn't name his game store Zombie planet by accident. :)

      @@RPGGamer We have a GM who's trying to combine AFMBE with white wolf's Exalted. What do you think of that mashup? I feel it's going to be a train wreck. But I thought I'd get another opinion.

    • @RPGGamer
      @RPGGamer  2 года назад +1

      @@theiran I don't have Exalted, but I've spoken with friends who do. I could see the idea of almost godlike creatures being the only survivors of a Zombie Apocalypse being quite interesting. Some survivors guilt as their mortal allies and friends have been killed. But then again, depending on the group, it does stand the massive chance of being a trainwreck, I could see my group turning it into a joke/

    Unisystem has two versions. Classic and Cinematic. AFMBE is classic Unisystem while Buffy the Vampire Slayer is cinematic. Cinematic Unisystem is even more streamlined but also adds Drama Points to the mix. If you have not done so already I recommend checking it out.
    CLASSIC UNISYSTEM: All Flesh Must Be Eaten, Terra Primate, Conspiracy X, WithchCraft, Armageddon
    CENIMATIC UNISYSTEM: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Army of Darkness, Ghosts of Albion

      @@RPGGamer It's a shame Eden Studios did not continue. For a while Unisystem was my hands down favorite RPG to run as a GM. Coffee Break of the Dead is a classic adventure. Ran it a number of times. Had a few great Buffy sessions as well. I even ran the WitchCraft adventure Campus Crusade using the Buffy rules. I need to get back to this system in the future. But right now I'm running Lamentations of the Flame Princess.

    You'll be glad to know that Buffy and Angel run using Cinematic Unisystem and are quite different to the Classic products (AFMBE, Witchcraft, ConX, etc). Combat is much faster, the skill list pared down to about 10, damage is no longer rolled, Drama Points added...

    Not sure if anyone'll see this but I have a question, it might be dumb though, do zombies get a chance to dodge in combat? like in the video where the cheerleader got a chance to dodge the attack? I haven't read through the rule book completely yet so I might've not gone to that part yet or missed it. Great video btw! Helped me grasp the rules better

    I thought the rules give two methods of tests resolution. One roll d10 add attribute & skill get over 8 or 9. Degree of success means how well the action was. Or the diceless method but use essence to bid away chance of failures. It’s been awhile since I look at the book.
